Match Thread Nottingham Forest vs Coventry City (A) - City Ground - Sat 19th September (5.30pm KO) (6 Viewers)

Sorry - his positional sense and lack of physicality mean he will always be a weak link in a back 4. We were a winning team last year, making his defensive life a lot easier. This year not so. So baring a miracle his defenders on here will be forced to do a mea culpa sooner or later.

He just might work in a back three which plays to his strengths.

I’ll raise you: he’s PotS so far.

What an angle for the goal this is.

Never get tired of seeing this

I got very emotional after yesterday’s game, I’m still.
I absolutely love how the fans got behind Frank and the team yesterday.
Also what club would stay behind after losing 0-5 at home, to give the team an ovation as they walked around the ground
That made me incredibly proud
We all remember the dark dark days so we appreciate where we’ve come from.

Exactly. I reckon the 10 minute non stop singing and support at 0-5?v brighton was more important than some people realise. We’ll never know but I’m not sure you see a reaction on the pitch like yesterday if they’d been booed off and felt the fans had turned on them.

I’ve been critical of a proportion of our fans in the past but to see a majority react in that way was a credit to the fanbase and club.

So happy to see us play with structure and shape when we were out of possession. The players looked confident and free even interchanging at times which shows they are comfortable in the system.Personal can change but each player will know the role and expectation of the position.

Brilliant team performance, great result and makes players believe they can compete, just got to keep shape, structure, discipline and work rate we could make a go of this.

It was interesting yesterday that we seemed to play without a defined Number 9 until Simms came on. BTA, Rudoni & EMC/Tchaouna all played in different positions across the front at various times which I thought was interesting and something I had never seen us do before, and seemed to give us more flexibility.

Our work rate was outstanding, particularly from BTA and Yirenkyi. Surely that has to be the standard for the rest of the season. If we can keep those energy levels up, especially as other teams European games start stacking up we’ve got a real chance of making a good fight of it.

Also loved all the niggly fouls we were committing. We’ve been far too nice so far this season so it was great to see a bit more aggression about us.

JDS has been our best player in a back 4 or back 3…

Sorry, but this narrative around JDS is completely outdated and has been completely wrong since Lampard took over.

JDS looked poor in 23/24 and 24/25 under Robins… He has always looked a lot better in Lampard’s system.
JDS has been good since he joined us, but once it was noticed that some of the mascots were bigger than him he was suddenly a midget and crap. If a player ever gets the better of him all we hear is how crap he is.

Each season there's lots of calls on here for him to be replaced, but he just continues to prove many wrong and has risen with us.

It was only a couple of weeks ago the Dasilva's error cost us the game against Man City. People have very sort memories. 120 odd appearances without scoring and very few assists along the way doesn't happen by chance.
What cost us the game was not putting any of our chances away. JDS was a part of the defence that kept them quiet.

My voice is still recovering from Saturday, a real defiant performance and one of the best away ends I have ever been in

Some of the things written about us in the press over the last week or so was down right disrespectful and some of the white flag waving from some of our own supporters was even worse - We need to go and back it up now but this team will pick up points, whether it is enough to keep us up is another question but they have and always will give it their all

Yirenkyi has to be one of the first names on the team sheet moving forward, a proper engine in the midfield, he was immense yesterday.

For such a young player in a new country, that was a proper impressive performance against a good side. Potential to be a real massive transfer in the future.

And that N’Doye he was all over in the first half (even had to switch to the right side to get away from Caleb) looked a really good player at the World Cup.
He was good, but my only frustration is he was giving away too many cheap free kicks.

Against Forest it's fine, but against better teams this can't happen.

I dont mind them so much. Disrupt patterns of play. As long as we are strong on defending free kicks its alright

It's fair to say JDS underwhelmed under Robins. He was meant to replace Bidwell but lost his place in both seasons due to being defensively suspect. Compare him to MvE who had RB locked down & you can see that he wasn't quite at it.

All you can say is fair play to him since Lampard has come in. Just keeps getting better and better & our best so far this season.

The system suits him, good on the ball . Definitely made me change my mind about having the attributes to he a prem player. And im happy to be wrong as he comes across as a good lad that is liked in the squad.

Had a thought after seeing a bit of Sunderland match yesterday. Have Man City loaned us their best centre half ?

A lot of young new faces are learning each others game. It can only get better. They need time to gel.

I will be big enough to admit I wanted his contract torn up after the 4-1 defeat at Pompey two years ago this December

Could probably count on one hand how many times he’s put a foot wrong since

Peter Drury was commentating on the game for NBC. Does anybody have a clip of his commentary for the goal?

Mfuni. Can he play at CB in a 4, because Brentford fans said Pinnick struggles in that system, so if we move back to a 4 against Newcastle it would be Thomas & Mfuni.
We played 5 at the back against Brigton after a good away performance at Man City, and it didn't work.
I am not sure Frank will do that at home again.
Then again we were shocking against Villa in the cup defensively in a 4.

I would be very surprised if we drop the 5 against Newcastle

In the first half against Brighton it worked. We should bury one of our chances and Pinnock should've dealt with their goal. On the balance of play a draw at HT would have been fair

A mad 5 minutes at the start of the second half with the defensive lapse and the red card made the result look way worse than it was against one of the in-form sides in the league
