Excellent all round. Defensively much improved. Mfuni looked like a seasoned pro, Thomas continues to develop into a very solid premier league player and Pinnock shows just why Lampard bought him. JDS gets better every game and has added goalscorer to his game. Yirinichi gave his all and walked a tightrope throughout (I was worried he would give away a penalty or be sent off). Grimes and Onyeka were more assured. Rudoni had a great first half, BTA ran his socks off (but is he really a PL starter?) and EMC held ball up well early on (but was a little disappointing. Rushworth solid without really being threatened.

I can’t argue with any of that.

BTA is a tricky one. I have often felt that his energy is useful against tiring defences - which perhaps points to him having 20 or 30 minutes off the bench - and he can cause confusion in the opposing defence and draw players away from our main striker. He has his uses but, when everyone is fit and available, I see him as more a valuable squad member than a regular starter.

I think FL is homing in on the right formation and tactics for away games and probably for home matches against the top teams. We now have a big enough squad to be flexible when the need arises.

We are unlucky to have our two main strikers unavailable at the moment, which is problematic. Still, no need to worry now we have discovered “Golden Boots” JDS

Yirenkyi has to be one of the first names on the team sheet moving forward, a proper engine in the midfield, he was immense yesterday.

For such a young player in a new country, that was a proper impressive performance against a good side. Potential to be a real massive transfer in the future.

And that N’Doye he was all over in the first half (even had to switch to the right side to get away from Caleb) looked a really good player at the World Cup.

To a man every player yesterday showed fight, spirit and togetherness which is what's needed in the prem. Our start reminds me of our first season back in the championship, a little apprehensive but the players grew into it, which I can see happening to us this season. We aren't going to beat the best teams but if we can play like yesterday we can profit against the lesser, let's hope we can get another points to finish 17th or higher. Whatever happens as City fans we are living the dream, let's enjoy it.

Pinnock - Thomas - Mfuni

To me playing

Mfuni - Pinnock - Thomas

Would make much more sense, both wide CBs on their strong foot and our tallest but probably least mobile defender central. Maybe one of them has said they’re not comfortable with that.

Cracking away day all round yesterday. Amazing atmosphere in the away end & to a man everyone in blue stood up to be counted. So important to head into the international break with something on the board as we head into what looks to be a run of more favourable fixtures. JDS looked poor in 23/24 and 24/25 under Robins… He has always looked a lot better in Lampard’s system.
