Match Thread Coventry City vs Brighton & Hove Albion FC (H) - Match Thread - Sun 13th September (2pm KO)

I think the reaction to all the teams starts has been over the top.

You were stitched up by your first two away games, that said you would have hoped for 4 points from your opening 2 home games.

Ipswich have lucked out with an injury time winner and an hour against 10-man, which they made hard work of.

I’m waiting for our wheels to fall off, which they will at some point. Let’s see where we all are after 10 games. I’m hoping Palace, Fulham and Tottenham are propping us all up.

Hopefully lessons learned about not being able to just sit in with 3 cbs in this league and it's time to move on

With respect, your contribution is well intentioned but poorly timed.

It probably has but the confidence levels in each team as a result of the first four games will be entirely different, which will influence the next few games.

We just look slow and lack passing quality and sharpness. Especially down the centre of the pitch. Brighton looked nimble and assertive.
Frank has gone for big physical types rather than ball players.
Torp and Hamer aren't the quickest either.

At this point we can't be playing 8 defensive players at home. I'd rather have another midfielder in than 3 centre backs. We're never that solid at the back whatever and Rushworth is better with more space around him.
The one good spell we had we started moving the ball noticeably quicker and it led to a flurry of chances. If we can keep that up for large periods of games, add a man in midfield and play our new players we might have a chance. Also, I notice on the stats we’ve been out sprinted by the opposition every game.

Feel like people are overreacting to yesterday tbh

Until the red card the performance was fine. Poor defending for the goals, which we need to cut out, but the balance of chances was fairly even, we just need to start taking them.

After the red Lampard didn’t really shore the team up and Brighton started taking pot shots. But it’s largely irrelevant to how the rest of the season will pan out.

Anyone else here talk sport this morning they were doing the odds of favourite for relegation they were throwing Villa Palace Ipswich and Hull in the mix for the other 2 places as they predicted Cov are nailed on favourites
It made me mad after 4 games how do they know

Well losing at home to Hull and losing 5 nil to Brighton doesn't do our odds much good TBF

Because we’ve sprinted out of the blocks with the pace of a snail and the guile of Ed Miliband’s sandwich eating

Rudoni’s back post volley, EMC’s early second half chance. You bust the net on both.

Overreacting? We got our arses slapped 5-0 at home and sit bottom with 0 points 0 goals and a -10 goal difference.

Like what? That would cause a complete breakdown if \DK effectively threatens Frank. If you need 'serious words', I'd walk if I was Frank. Who do you want us to get in? Sean Dyche? What DK needs is a pair of cojones and stay supportive. You might have the best manager in the world as a newly promoted club, and still get relegated in this league. Everybody praising Hull and Ipswich - let's see where they end up at the end of the season. We really need to stay together as a fanbase, but judging by a few posters on here, we appear to be quick to 'crumble' and round on our own team and club.

I’d get someone in who can manage at this level if we’re five games in and haven’t got a goal or a point, yeah.

There are no teams I’m aware of who have turned this kind of start around without changing manager.

One thing I thought about yesterday’s game is that we didn’t seem to play with any real aggression. I watched Sunderland/Arsenal game the previous night and although Arsenal ran out 2-0 winners, Sunderland had a real go at them physically, made it very hard for them. To me we looked a bit ‘soft’, and it made me think how will we cope against teams like Sunderland who’ll try to physically bully us.

We could be 30 games in with zero points and still be seeing these posts couldn’t we?

You don’t sack your manager after 5 games for gods sake.

Southampton 2012/13.

We look so nervous from kick off and terrified to make a mistake. There was a 15 minute period of the first half where we got on top and we looked reminiscent of last years style of play, and then Brighton scored and we went right back into our shell.

Awoniyi showed the tiniest bit of aggression and got sent off!

Were you at the game? Did you see how quick that happened?
The guy was just too fast. Nobody in our team was catching him.
Have a look at the other side of our defence, if you want to see where the mistakes are.
He’s not at the level we need and he’s not the only one. You’ve blamed the other side of the defence but I can’t blame da silva it’s not like it’s the first time it’s happened either

Sorry to jump in here, but we didn’t just sit in against Chelsea. We mixed our press up, sometimes pressing them in their own box to force an error, then we had a lot of mid block and some low block to hit them on the counter.

Jakirovic mixes up his game plan depending on who we are playing, he saw that our best chance of getting something out of the game was to take advantage of Chelsea’s defensive frailties. You don’t get this playing a low block for 90mins.
Hull have had a good start, fair play, but it’s unlikely to continue IMO. We’ve seen it a hundred times. Sides unexpectedly getting off to a great start and then dropping back down. What’s undeniable is that old cliche about football being a confidence game, and a winning start does breed that confidence. But it can also vanish very quickly when things stop going your way. The most boring comment in the world is “let’s wait and see”
but…. let’s wait and see. Another couple of months into the season and I’d be staggered if Hull were still up there and Coventry were bottom of the division.

On what basis?
