Match Thread Coventry City vs Aston Villa [LC] (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Wed 16th September (8pm KO) (39 Viewers)

Would the Thomas one have gone down as xG as he didn't shoot? That was gilt-edged.
Dont know why Thomas didn't shoot. Or where just after we made it 1-1 ball is pulled back and it's going in until our own player inadvertently blocks it.

Watched the highlights on YouTube. I might be reading too much into it but Torp is the only player who looked like he cared even a little when they scored their third. Came away very impressed with him tonight, played like he really gives a shit and showed a lot of application and ability.
Looked gutted and completely exhausted at the end too. Gave it everything and had a good game. Would play him in the Grimes role from now on

Just got home. Well that was frustrating - we can’t defend. Two fucking terrible corners… and the first simply dogshit defending.

Torp and Yirenki played well tho and the new Gboho looks decent.
What about the 3 Rd goal when a corner that's it about two feet off the ground gets all the way through to Abraham's.

Another shockingly poor performance and so similar to Sunday. First half, again very slow to start, then looked ok for 20 minutes or so. Second half embarrasingly poor again, men against boys.

Only Yirencki, Torp and Mfuni come out of it in any way positively.

Penny for Doug's thoughts. How long will he put up with this, not very is my guess.

I thought Yorp & Hamer cemented their places for Saturday👍

Not sure Hamer contributed much second half (a…was slow and ineffectual and b…was played as a left winger and couldn’t get in game). Torp played well first half and is a great addition to a side winning and on front foot. Not convinced by him in a team that needs to battle…and boy do we need to battle Saturday.

Agree he looks like it but not sure his strength is in giving a battling performance. Like those around him he delivered v little second half. Villa treated that 45mins as a training game and waltzed through the midfield…the space they found in the middle third was incredible…defence too deep and midfield not looking to defend

Did you say this last season?
Yeah, that Ady was doing well at Borough and prior to that with his Chelsea history would make a good staff member to bring in with Lampard who could add continuity and would be a good fit.

Doug described him as a “top quality coach”.

Many on here think Ady was a big reason for Robins’ success.

Is bringing him (a former defender with a proven record) back to the club so outrageous?

Could we get him in as manager maybe

Just defensive coach would be good enough. Organising the back line and how to play out from the back.

He knows the core of the squad and probably where the spare cones are in the cupboard.
Heswell in the set up at Boro. Think he would only come here as Manager.

It’s too binary (and very SBT) to say we were shit or good tonight.

We did what we’ve done most games this season and had a spell of 15 ~ 20 minutes when we look decent. The rest of the time we look ponderous, lost, lacking leadership, making rudimentary mistakes, devoid of ideas and sometimes unable to defend worthashit.

Only turning up for 20 minutes per game and defending like a pub team isn’t sustainable.

Bit of a rudderless ship tonight . I still have the feeling , once the new guys are settled, we'll be okay. Must admit, I've never looked forward to an international break before like this one.

What do people think is going to happen in the international break that hasn't happened in the last few weeks?

Alarming that 2 games in a row the players downed tools again after the 3rd goal. Last 20 minutes was a training match, mentality stinks compared to last season.

I feel more deflated after last night than Sunday or any other defeat so far. FL made the changes we were all calling for, yet Vila strolled last night with their 2nd team. What’s really annoying is teams aren’t even playing that well to beat us, they just have to withstand our 10/20 mins of pressure then we gift them a goal and our heads drop. Concerning we seem to be unable to pick ourselves up after going behind, we are playing like a team that’s 20 games without a win, not 4.

Few positives to take, Mfuni looks like a good prospect. Torp & Yarenki are a much better midfield pairing at this level & Ghobo looks like he will have a go.

Biggest loss last night may well prove to be Amenda. Be surprised if that isn’t a month out .
What was the attendance in the end ?
