Match Thread Coventry City vs Sunderland (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Sat 31st October (3pm KO) (8 Viewers)

On Sunderland, the apparent brilliance of their last season is starting to look overblown. Sometimes you get flukes or exceptions to the rule. Sunderland outran what the data said about them all season. Its starting to play out now. What a shame...

was gonna mention this. At the start of the season I read an article that said every statistic pointed to them being one of the worst teams in the league - apart from the one that mattered -the points and the league table, Which suggested they were lucky rather than good.

Luck always runs out. Might explain why nobody could understand why their fans were fuming at stages last season

Also think Hulls luck will run out. That's been going on for way too long. It will catch up to them.

Someone just text me that they haven’t won since playing us. So would agree
Yes if we'd have seen out the point i think us and them would be seen very differently right now. Hopefully we overtake them soon, been a bit fed up of hearing about them so that would feel good.

It’s clear we can really turn it on teams when we’re on it at home, if we can turn a few of those losses into draws (especially away) we’ll put ourselves in with a great shot at survival this season.

Rudoni is proving to be absolute Premier League quality, regardless of what happens to us this season there’ll be big offers for him next summer.

AND Mfuni is an unreal talent, ridiculously confident in possession. Hard to believe he’s a teenager at times the way he’s dealing with forwards in the hardest league in the world.

You would imagine with more games and more wins the belief increases on the squad. So it may be the case we only get better rather than worse which is very exciting for the season ahead.

It also helps heal the playoff loss

In hindsight it was good for us to have another year in championship under lampard and we got to experience winning the league and the famous division 1 trophy.

And now we are ahead of them again on the football ladder. Normal service has resumed.

Luton
Sunderland
Leicester
Man united

Anyone who wrongs us gets dealt with eventually. We are the COV MAFIA!

It’s the Europe thing isn’t it. As much as i of course would absolutely love a European season at some point in our lives - I’d be really worried about the league.

What was the caffuffle in the North stand in the second half all about?

I dream of the day I have to sit down with my missus and explain I have to go to Astana on a November Thursday night

We're meant to be going to Brazil next year and my missus keeps pestering me to book flights and I keep making excuses.

Im holding off in case I need the leave days for a European tour, deluded? Almost certainly!
But you never know......

Second seasons are difficult. If we are lucky enough to stay up this year our second season will be difficult too.

I said before the season started that I fancied Sunderland, Hull +1 other (could be us) to go down. Admittedly, that was when it looked like Xhaka was leaving but he seems to have downed tools anyway.

They play like a non-league underdog in a big cup tie.

The whole gameplan is purely about physicality, work hard, spoil & break up the game.

In possession, just thump the ball down the channels & try to play percentages.

Get away with it for a bit, & understandable tactics away to the elite teams, but to spend the amount of money they have to then have that style of play against a newly promoted side is a bit embarrassing tbh.

Imagine how painful they'd be without Brobbey. The whole game plan is built around his strength.

I'm not one to label the opposition awful anytime we get a win but yesterday I did think they were shite and in big danger of going down

I have to admit I thought he was a waste of space, but fair play to him he made and scored a fabulous goal that neither Ellis or Haji could! Let’s hope he keeps fit and continues to bang them in.

Second seasonitis - they were always going to struggle.

I hate the fake rival shit with Sunderland. I spoke to a few Sunderland fans both before & after the game at Coventry Station & they were all fine, very complimentary afterwards about us. I was surprised some want Le Bris sacked.

They’ve never fully been behind him from what I can tell. Even in the promotion season I remember them grumbling when they dropped like a stone.

Last season there was murmurings, but were shot down due to the league position.

We were way to open against Newcastle and perhaps a touch lucky. We completely controlled the game yesterday.

Both felt far more open games than hull and Fulham though as both teams came to play. Not watched highlights back yet but it felt more comfortable than Newcastle, until the pen decision. Sunderland looked poor, we started with more energy and early goal made a big difference to both teams

I’d have been fuming if we’d let in first two goals
