Match Thread Nottingham Forest vs Coventry City (A) - City Ground - Sat 19th September (5.30pm KO) (6 Viewers)

Every post on this game is absolutely crawling with Sunderland fans. I almost forgot how weird they were being away from them for a season. Hope we get back to the natural order of pumping those cunts.

never in doubt was it……what a performance…we needed something to show us we can compete at this level and that was it, brilliant from all of them…take everything back I’ve said. We’ve got recruitment spot on 😂

Excellent all round. Defensively much improved. Mfuni looked like a seasoned pro, Thomas continues to develop into a very solid premier league player and Pinnock shows just why Lampard bought him. JDS gets better every game and has added goalscorer to his game. Yirinichi gave his all and walked a tightrope throughout (I was worried he would give away a penalty or be sent off). Grimes and Onyeka were more assured. Rudoni had a great first half, BTA ran his socks off (but is he really a PL starter?) and EMC held ball up well early on (but was a little disappointing. Rushworth solid without really being threatened.

I can’t argue with any of that.

BTA is a tricky one. I have often felt that his energy is useful against tiring defences - which perhaps points to him having 20 or 30 minutes off the bench - and he can cause confusion in the opposing defence and draw players away from our main striker. He has his uses but, when everyone is fit and available, I see him as more a valuable squad member than a regular starter.

Soon as I saw the starting lineup I knew we would win to be honest!

I think FL is homing in on the right formation and tactics for away games and probably for home matches against the top teams. We now have a big enough squad to be flexible when the need arises.

We are unlucky to have our two main strikers unavailable at the moment, which is problematic. Still, no need to worry now we have discovered “Golden Boots” JDS 😊

You know it was a good day when you wake up with a sore head, due to non-alcohol related reasons; I might add.

Proud of every single one of those players on the pitch and you noisy bastards in the stand with me.

(Now where is the paracetamol?)

Yirenkyi has to be one of the first names on the team sheet moving forward, a proper engine in the midfield, he was immense yesterday.

For such a young player in a new country, that was a proper impressive performance against a good side. Potential to be a real massive transfer in the future.

And that N’Doye he was all over in the first half (even had to switch to the right side to get away from Caleb) looked a really good player at the World Cup.

Incredible result and performance considering all the injuries we had.

A massive result and fair play to every single one of them.

To a man every player yesterday showed fight, spirit and togetherness which is what's needed in the prem. Our start reminds me of our first season back in the championship, a little apprehensive but the players grew into it, which I can see happening to us this season. We aren't going to beat the best teams but if we can play like yesterday we can profit against the lesser, let's hope we can get another points to finish 17th or higher. Whatever happens as City fans we are living the dream, let's enjoy it.

One question I do have is why we played it as

Pinnock - Thomas - Mfuni

To me playing

Mfuni - Pinnock - Thomas

Would make much more sense, both wide CBs on their strong foot and our tallest but probably least mobile defender central. Maybe one of them has said they’re not comfortable with that.

Can we confirm he was playing RWB in the end?

Cracking away day all round yesterday. Amazing atmosphere in the away end & to a man everyone in blue stood up to be counted. So important to head into the international break with something on the board as we head into what looks to be a run of more favourable fixtures. Already looking forward to the Newcastle game under the lights, CBS bouncing against a team that looks shaky away from home - we have a real chance to put a run together.

Is JDS less exposed with a back 3? And was he farther forward than usual for the goal because we were playing a back 3? Still don't think he's Prem standard. Few have ever denied he has quick feet though, as we saw. On the same note, despite the result I still don't think Grimes is good enough either, however Onyeki did more than enough to quell scepticism.

That was a Championship level match but good for confidence going into the break.

What is our best back 3 if the Man City lad was so good? I assume he is the injury replacement.

N'Doye for them was crap - Powderpuff player

JDS has been our best player in a back 4 or back 3…

Sorry, but this narrative around JDS is completely outdated and has been completely wrong since Lampard took over.

JDS looked poor in 23/24 and 24/25 under Robins… He has always looked a lot better in Lampard’s system.

He never looked as poor as people made out but people can’t admit mistakes.

Perhaps Pinnocks experience and height was needed to allow JD the freedom he needed and cut out the thought of the long high diagonal before even enters their head, Celeb’s tenacity was needed to support Mfuni.

That leaves Bobby in the middle to make goal-line clearances.

In Frank we trust.

Thomas is our most commanding header of the ball so makes sense for him to be the central player, and also probably as the most vocal of our defenders the best communicator and organiser. Pinnock looks a solely left sided player, while Mfuni although a naturally left sided player seems to be the most natural footballer of the 3 and therefore more able to adapt to playing on his 'wrong' side. It made perfect sense to me!

It was only a couple of weeks ago the Dasilva's error cost us the game against Man City. People have very sort memories. 120 odd appearances without scoring and very few assists along the way doesn't happen by chance.

Sorry - his positional sense and lack of physicality mean he will always be a weak link in a back 4. We were a winning team last year, making his defensive life a lot easier. This year not so. So baring a miracle his defenders on here will be forced to do a mea culpa sooner or later.

He just might work in a back three which plays to his strengths.

This is nonsense, he has been the only half decent player inevery game this season

We failed to deal with the movement of Fenandez and Harland outmuscled our cente half.
Harsh to pin that on Sasilva
