Match Thread Coventry City vs Sunderland (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Sat 31st October (3pm KO) (2 Viewers)

Big changes needed, MVE, Grimes, BTA need dropping as they aren't up to the level, Sakamoto looks ok in flashes but we need to start seeing Loum, if he's no better than why exactly have we wasted 20 mill on him. I would have also looked to have dropped JDS for Mfuni but with the Thomas injury he needs to slot in at CB. I would also like to see Yirenchi given a rest, he's going to be some player but next to Grimes he's been chasing shadows for 90 minutes all season. Onyeka and Hamer to break up the game and Hamer has a superior passing ability to Grimes and better set pieces than Rudoni. Always seems a bit backwards to me having Rudoni taking the set piece considering his size and ability. I would also be half tempted to go for Simms, he'll have the beating of that league one donkey O'Nien. Would be classic us to win this but I can't see anything other than a loss. 3-0 Sunderland.

.................Rushworth,
KKH, Pinnock, Mfuni, JDS
............Onyeka, Hamer
Loum, Rudoni, Ghobo
......................Cherif.

Sounds like we are going to having a thrilling game at the weekend then, we cant score goals. I’m hoping we playing the reserves Wednesday night v Brentford, the weekend is far more important.
If you guys hadnt beaten us in the playoffs I would be a lot more confident because of the recent record we’ve had against you. It screams of a 0-0 or dull 1-0

With who on the left?

well he isn’t a left sided player so certainly not him - I no nothing about Ghobo but it’s going to be BTA - I suspect with Ghobo it’s more a fitness issue to compete at this level but the other guy looks like a waste of money at the minute and needs to do a lot of work in training

It will be an awful game that’s for sure. We are going to be in a relegation scrap this season.

Thankfully I watched Ipswich and Hull at the weekend and both of them looked shocking. Throw in the mix the potential Man City relegation as well.

How did he do? Answer?
I actually can't remember Grendel. Obviously not very good, by your comment, but hardly anyone did. That was a while ago..others have had a lot more chances and underperformed, on a regular basis. Another option would be to play Cherif on the wing, he hasn't played many games full stop, fairly sure he played quite a few on the wing. Might suit him.

He wasn’t good.

Name anything he has done to suggest he should be starting

Name something BTA has done to deserve a starting place? He runs around in circles then falls over and then stands and watch his man run past him then realises when its too late.

We don't attack!
We played Spurs who were bottom - lost
We played Fulham who were bottom - lost
We play you lot on Saturday who are bottom....

You'll break your goalscoring drought without a shadow of a doubt as our goalkeeper has forgotten how to save shots.

What I’d go with if Bobby is out.

Simms / Cherif a toss up.

I think that is a good team in that it gives us pace on the wings which we are crying out for. We are at home so we have to go for the win. It is not a team for an Away game but I think we now need to look at different teams for home & away games irrespective of the previous result.

I hope so, but that sounds exactly like us.

Ghobo is probably worth giving a go to as he seems from his time is france to be capable of moments of brilliance and great skill which as we saw on Saturday can be the difference. Fulham were pretty bad but they had someone like Oscar Bobb who had the ability to do a great piece of skill and then finish it.

Rushworth
MVE, Mfuni, Pinnock, JDS
Onyeka
Sakamoto Torp EMC
Rudoni
Cherif

One holding midfielder, Torp further forward, Rudoni further forward and central.
Onyeka to step up when attacking. Rudoni to step back when defending.

If personel need changing in game
Torp - Hamer/Yirenki
Cherif - Simms/Awoniyi
Onyeka - Grimes
Sakamoto - Gboho
EMC - Tchouna
Rudoni - BTA

Love that you've have picked this based on the essential need to have 8 championship players in the starting line up. 🤣

Yeah I call in the 'magic 8 ballers'. Out of interest, which non championship players would you include that I havent? Hamer, Wolfenden, Yirinki, Tchaouna, Gboho, Awoniyi, only three of those have more premier league experience than the ones I selected and who would you take out? One couldn't break in to the team in the championship last season.

Wolfenden is one of our championship players and is injured, and I class Hamer as a championship player given he last played in the premier league 3 seasons ago.

I'd be tempted to play Yirenkyi right back, it's where he plays most for Ghana and Milan is struggling, I would have Gboho in over EMC, and as talented as Cherif is and Awoniyi has been poor, I'd have Awoniyi in there. At least then you have a Pinnock, Onyeka and Awoniyi spine that has decent PL experience. That would give you 6 players from the championship. You could throw in Tchaouna for Sakamoto, but that would feel harsh as he played well Saturday, but we need PL quality on the ball.

Injuries to Thomas and Amenda have fucked us, as we have to go with a back 4, otherwise it's Lati. It's a moot point anyway as Frank will play his favourites.

I can guarantee there will be one change - Mfuni for Thomas

So which ones would you take out and for who? Wolfenden played in the premier for Ipswich, Hamer for Sheff Utd. I missed out Simms who also has premier experience of course. You could mix and match some of those I chose with others and it might improve the line up. I included Torp and EMC because they were goal threats last season.
