Match Thread Coventry City vs Sunderland (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Sat 31st October (3pm KO) (2 Viewers)

Its not really sentimentality its more his proven Championship track record with us.

If he got us back up and started badly again in the PL that's when Id look to pull the trigger
I guess it depends on if you believe any manager we could reasonable sign, could keep us up.

If the answer is no, you stick with Lampard like Ipswich did with McKenna

Ipswich stuck with McKenna after spending quite a bit and having a shambles of a season in the Prem and he just about managed to stink them back up at the first attempt and still has a reputation seemingly intact. I feel the King/Lampard dynamic is slightly different though. I'm not sure King would let him get that far and i'm not 100% convinced Lampard stays in the Championship even if he did.

We need 18 points still to match their shambolic season

I feel like he would leave. I dunno but just get feeling he is has done what he needed to in championship and won't see it as beneficial to his managerial career to risk a season again in it

They won 4 games which is laughably shit. Staggeringly there was an even worse Southampton team in the league the very same season. Being able to put back to back wins together convinces me we'll be better than that at least. Although it's not really the bar i want to be aiming for.

How do you go about this one? Sunderland are not a high pressing team but can break quickly, can see it being quite similar to the play off semi first leg where they were fairly happy to let us have possession but looked very dangerous on the break.

We've got to seriously up the tempo to beat them I think.

yet we have only had 2 absolute disaster games (Hull and Fulham, Brighton was us being taken apart with 10 men by a great team) and even Saturday for as bad it took a great piece of skill and a great finishfrom a player that is probably at ;east a level above us for them to win.

You can be worried but at the same time realise that the level we are at now is a level where even the slightest mistake in management or on the pitch will see you lose a game.
A lot of people said pre-season that to survive we needed to pick up points especially at home from teams around us. Fulham and Hull absolutely fall into this category. That's 6 points we need to find from somewhere else.

You’re assuming he wants that though and won’t leave. And if he does we’ve just wasted a chance at staying up for no good reason. It’s a big gamble for me.

Rushworth
MvE Thomas/Mfuni Pinnock Dasilva
Onyeka Torp
Tchaouna Rudi Gboho
Simms

Could change about half that which is half the problem. No one making their spot their own or showing they should be started outside of Mfuni but we need something different in CM and the wings
I think you could argue that Thomas has made the spot his own (injury depending).

Yeah that slash is only there cos I’m not sure he’s fit. I’d be tempted to play Mfuni at LB if he is but v harsh on Dasilva who has been excellent. I don’t want to see 3ATB at home but that’s another option. Would really like to get Mfuni on the pitch.

Agreed.

Watched them against Leeds yesterday - still got that c**t O nien but most of the team is new - impressive winger so need him stamping on ! They just went man for man against Leeds and they cancelled each other out - can’t believe how Bogle stayed on the field - another dirty bastard

hence I called them "disaster results"

Touch looked good Vs monoco. I'd like to see him play as saka God bless him isn't the answer as a starter

Monaco was a friendly, it meant nothing - Sakamoto looked more effective on Saturday than he has in the league. He’s also far more likely to track back.

Based on being sick of BTA starting because he tries hard

What positives has the alternative offered so far? I think he has overpriced dud written all over him.

I think BTA is a "defensive" option which is OK away from home but at home we should be trying to win games, that is why we cannot be playing both BTA & Saka. We need to give one of the 2 new signings a go, also gives us more pace. We are not a quick team in the 1st place and the subs on Saturday made us even slower. Not one of the subs who came on was quicker than the player they replaced.

From an attacking perspective how did the Burnley guy do when he was on?

He hasn't played the last 3 games so not sure what you are referring to.
His last 45 minutes, when he came on at half time against Forest, were actually pretty good.

define pretty good. How did he do against Hull?

Never a better time to play us, we have been shocking in the league.

That said I’m going with a 0-1 win 🔴⚪️

what does this even mean. Hes a child out his depth?
That I love him. His work rate. His fight. I totally understand why lampard trusts him. It's not a slight on him

But I imagine touchana has a higher ceiling as a footy player so hopefully he can show that for cov cos it will mean a upgrade at RW

Upgrades are ultimately what we are striving for in every position after all

Well we won the game with a clean sheet, what more do you want? Who do you suggest we play on the right as you have just said that Saka is like a child out of his depth?

So will you question lampards judgement if he stays with him? I don’t think touchana has offered anything yet and I can understand why he’s not starting

er I didn’t say that

I'm sure theres been plenty of better times to play you given our record against you. Usually feel a win vs Sunderland but can't say I'm feeling it atm, we are total arse.

No. All I said was if like to see touchana get a start so we can see more of him in the hole that he's good.

I never said I don't understand why he didn't starting

I don’t think he’s justified anything to warrant him starting
