Match Thread Coventry City vs Sunderland (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Sat 31st October (3pm KO) (21 Viewers)

No I don't think it has much merit but the person who constantly goes on about was the one who was saying he has not scored any goals.

Its nonsense to suggest he was not going to start as our main forward as without Wright he has the most experience and a reasonable top flight record
You said , that I said " he had one good season 10 years ago!". Yesterday you asked me to name any players who played in Belgian league and Prem league, I named 50! Then you went quiet. The one thing Awonyi is really good at, is holding the ball up, laying it off, but if you want to play that game, you need another striker next to him. He hasn't scored.. He won't score many. Not sure how he is suddenly the Messiah.

I notice some people seem to have an issue with M.V.E and Jay in there team selections.Odd games they have made mistakes (who hasn't) but overall their the least of our worries. In fact Jay has been 1 of our best player despite being written off by many on here before he kicked a ball. Our midfield and lack of goal have been the problem.

I didnt ask if there was any I asked how many. The point really was how many ever made a success here.

Its on par with Sweden, Norway, Holland and a bit higher than Switzerland.

We had some great players missing I think off your list - Regis Genoux and Phillipe Clement.

Bassette of course did not even start there - he played intitially for a club now in the third tier in France

I think we really need to let the shackles off and go at them. Theyre under a bit of pressure and have a cup game tonight and Europa game next Thursday. None of this 1 up front lets stay in the game nonsense, get back to how we were playing in the championship with no fear.

He scores with decent regularity in the prem

Hilarious to say Awoniyi “runs like an old man” while suggesting trampoline feet Simms should be playing instea

I dont think so, Cherif has been decent makes good runs, good control of the ball, works hard. And we are yet to see Haji play yet so cant make a judgement on him
Zero goals

Abo clearly must know Simms as he takes it personally when people point out Simms flaws
He wanted the forum shut down for people slagging off Simms, spends most of his posting time slagging off all the strikers that aren't Simms and the manager who clearly doesn't rate him. Its a bit obvious at this point.

Only 1 less than Simms and Cherif then

Maybe Dasilva should be considered up front? Partner him with Mfuni if we want to play two strikers?a penalty, Simms has hardly played.
Cherif also got us

he's actually scored the same amount of goals this season as Simms

Am I the only one who doesn't care whichs striker lampard chooses? Right now none of them have made the shirt their own after all so who cares. All can be good on their day and all can be the opposite.

Pretty sure it’s a troll.

Something needs to change.
We can see that - post from a random CCFC fan but these stats are right and have been posted across a number of different platforms in different ways;

I think the question is do we have the players to change that or is it about how we play? Fulham were poor but technically miles above us in terms of the basics like passing and trapping the ball. Can you teach that or do we just need to have signed better players? Is there even a tactic we can implement that makes up for the technical shortcomings of the squad?

damning - Lampard needs to decide what we are and how we're going to play.

Massive shake up required.

Back four for me should be MVE and Dasilva out for Yirenkyi and Mfuni - on paper it’s more physical and defensive.

No idea what you do in the middle but Onyeka needs to play, and you’d probably put Hamer or Torp alongside him.

Then Ghoho and Awoniyi come in.

Didn't we play 2 up top last year, went a bit more long ball, when Wright was injured, possibly year before and we had a run of good games, winning 7 or 8.

that was the year before and we scraped a load of those games and tge first really good team (Leeds) we played schooled us and we then went back to a back 4 with a striker and a 10 and carried on into the play offs.

The 3-4-1-2 formation was only because we had did have enough players that could play on the wing to play 4-3-3

We just can’t continue with the current set up.

I think the bones of a good defence is there. Yirenkyi and Mfuni were superb against Forest and so I’d utilise them there.

Midfield becomes an unknown but we know Grimes and Yirenkyi don’t work together.

Up top again, less clear. BTA has done well enough but he can’t be starting in games at home that we need to win.

Jay has been fantastic. MVE on the other hand hasn't adapted like I thought he would.. genuinely thought he'd be a top player for us in this league but so far he's been poor enough.

So back four of

MVE
Pinnock
Mfuni
JDs

Could a central midfield of Onyeka and Torp work ?

The definition of madness is repeating the same thing and expecting a different outcome!
Hence, something has to change if we are to get something out of Saturdays game.
Option 1:
Revert to a back 3 with wingbacks and play 2 up front with Rudoni in the 10 position.
Option 2:
Change the midfield. 4 - 3 - 3 with FTT, Hamer & Torp.

Rather random collection of stats

And you’d expect us to be in the bottom 3 or 4 anyway.

Some of our defensive stats are quite decent- we’re 8th for xGA, which puts us 17th on xGD.

Awonyi, in the league, the only thing that matters. I have praised Cherif, mentioned he scored a goal and got a penalty.
Simms has scored one deflected goal and has looked not as good as Awonyi at things like holding the call up and controlling passes.
