Highest infection rate in the world, largest death rate in Europe. We've had 40K+ cases for the last five days in a row and today the highest daily death rate since March.

Is it just me or are the Government totally silent on this? There's no messaging, no press briefings, nothing. Walking around and going in shops I am one of the few people to still wear a mask. The majority think it's over, but it seems to me that is far from true.

The picture that nails what our government think of Covid is of the minute silence for the murdered mp. Johnson missed it probably pissed and there’s one mask on the Tory benches. Wtaf

Cases are irrelevant.

Hospitalisations and numbers in ICU we need to look at. Yes its gone up but its not shit yourself time.

Worst that will happen, masks in public spaces, WFH again. Another lockdown is pointless with 90% of adults jabbed.

Yeah but it does seem if it’s not affecting you personally then it’s all ok to do what you like

I think lifes returned to normality the last few months and everyones enjoyed it immensely.

Imagine they turn round now and say 'oh no fans allowed at football games, pubs and restaraunts close, work from home and dont see anyone'.

With 90% of adults vaccinated it will be met with a rousing get fucked i feel

Doesn’t last as long though does it? Sure I read that immunity from infection is typically gone within 5-6 months.

Is that the jab though ? Surely you'd have some immunity from let's say 1 strain of the virus for much longer with natural immunity ?

I could be wrong

Different strain then yes makes sense to have less or no immunity .

I'm guessing natural immunity plus the vaccine would essentially turn you into FORT KNOX .

I'm guessing that's what's happened with me , I had covid and didn't know about it then had the vaccine at a later date

At the end of the day Pete, and this isn’t a popular opinion, but it’s been over 18 months now. 18 months of people’s lives significant changed, I’ve had two jabs in my arm of a pretty new vaccine (and I’ll happily have a third and a fourth), and worn a mask in public space, and not been able to see certain family members and friends for that whole time period.

I’m 30 years old. I feel like I’ve done my fair share and led a very different life for 5% of my living life. At a point you just get fatigued with it all and think I can’t believe there are still some fuckers who haven’t even been vaccinated.

The chances are I’ll be okay if I get infected. I want to get on with life now. If there are still vulnerable people then it sounds harsh but it’s on them to stay home or whatever if they don’t feel comfortable

Well not really I’ve had 2 jabs and wil have any booster bunged at me. That’s my passport to do what I want in my view. Start restrictions again and to me the vaccines aren’t working so I wouldn’t waste the trip next time

Haha. It's not difficult to understand. He posted the information himself. Said it clear as day, patients in ICU, 1052.
In his world they every patient that gets hospitalised, gets put straight into intensive care.

It's shocking and the media's lack of attention in this is lamentable

Which is why they should have had mandatory mask wearing in shops and on public transport. To open up and forget all precautions was insane.

No country in the world test as heavily as us (as far as im aware)
Desperate Trumpian stuff.
There were just under 1 million tests in Italy on Monday to download a green pass for work purposes alone. That’s not including those getting tested due to symptoms.

Surely it’s cause and effect also. Why is the UK testing more than any other country? I’m sure it’s not linked to the fact that we have more people with Covid symptoms and then as a consequence coming into contact with people before displaying symptoms meaning those people also have to be tested.

One of my eldest daughters closest friends had a positive test a few weeks ago and as a consequence her whole friend group of about 8 kids had a PCR test, I presume the same for anyone the girl who had it has classes with. A high number of cases surely lead to a high number of further testing.

Also, what’s the counting method these days. In the early days wasn’t the government double counting certain tests to make it look like the testing numbers were going up when in fact they wasn’t?

Blaming punters again for the slow rollout uptake of the boosters
They’re also blaming parents and kids for slow uptake in schools, when reality the only hold up is the people that will be administering the vaccine haven’t gotten everything organised yet. Most schools won’t have anyone in to do them until mid Nov at earliest.

How do you know it hasn’t? All the research on wearing masks suggests that figures would be higher if not wearing masks. Unless you’re suggesting that Scotland is the only country in the world where masks don’t work the science suggests that Scotlands numbers would be higher if they didn’t have mandatory mask wearing in certain settings.

As I said, it’s desperate Trumpian tactics. If a country has more symptomatic people it’s going to have higher rates of testing.

not really this is an independent stat? I have stated before I don’t see the point as it’s clearly globally a stupid measure. The U.K. have loads of tests but it’s pointless - that’s why I was laughing at astute - it’s pretty obvious that if the U.K. and France have the same numbers in hospital they have the same number of infections

If we had a pass to get to events of course loads would be tested and Fake it - it’s pointless

Jobs won't necessarily allow that, however.
I totally understand that, so maybe there’s some more stuff they can do about time off and holding roles open etc I don’t know.
But like, flipping that round it’s like okay people should continue sacrificing life so some people go to work.

I’m not one of these deniers and I’m not intending to be reductive in terms of this terrible pandemic, but my opinion has swayed a bit over a very long 18 months.

My main issue is the laissez-faire approach we're taking. To an extent, want to do things that just affect you and other consenting adults? Knock yourself out. It's when it affects others as well... and it seems mental to me that we haven't at least taken measures to flatten a curve, and maximise the chances of no lockdown. Government advice is still to wear masks, meet outdoors if possible etc... but they won't compel the masks. When it comes to trains, shops etc it's not exactly an infringement on liberties or fun to wear them, and it's a bit of a bummer if you're vulnerable / worried to have others inflicting a, maybe not unsurprising, attitude of not wearing masks. As somebody mentioned, some think it's over, they don't need to worry... and government is heavily responsible for that.

Mrs. Wisdom for example, is now going back to her office, via trains and public crowded spaces including heavily socialising teenagers and early 20s, not because she needs to for her job, but because they want to give the impression of normality... and that's stupid.

At least let her make the choice whether she's comfortable in such environments.
