Match Thread Coventry City vs Fulham (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Sat 24th October (3pm KO) (82 Viewers)

I know I’ve said it before but Grimes ends up crossing it because the winger and/or full back haven’t done their job which is to beat a man and cross it or get the overlap and cross.

It’s inexcusable how many times it gets passed back in those situations. Grimes gets the flack but ultimately he’s the one always taking the responsibility. Same in midfield, never hides, always gets in position to receive the ball in tight positions etc. He’s not been anywhere near his best this season but fans in general sometimes need to look at the bigger picture. same defensively with Grimes and Yirenkyi regularly trying to cover the area of three men v spurs
Everything you say is correct.
The number of times EMC has the chance to get the ball in first time but never does really infuriates me. It is like he is trying to get in the perfect cross but all it does is allow defences to reset.

Whilst Milan has been really poor, not sure why anyone would throw KKH into the starting line up after been injured for 2-3 months and having played just 10 competitive minutes since May. He's made of glass, we need to build his fitness up before we throw him in.

Grimes will struggle against King today is my biggest worry. Bobb is a tricky winger which suits Jay personally, think he struggles more with pace in behind. Rushworth needs a Leicester type game where he makes a load of saves, has to get his confidence up.

Perhaps MVE isn't quite as good as we all thought he was. His pace used to get him out of trouble in the championship but he's in a league now where everyone looks as quick as him

Makes more sense at least
Both Blunt wankers but Hamer is here now so obviously you'd want him to do well as with every player. O'Hare and Wrectum can get relegated preferably.

+ MVE is very erratic when he’s low on confidence. I think we’re seeing why a prem team didn’t take the gamble on him.

The key word there is confidence gaz. I watched MVE in his first game for us at AFC Wimbledon and he was short of confidence and for the first couple of games. There were also times in the Championship after that when he was out of form in patches. He'll come good - full backs with his acceleration are hard to find. He's also generally helped in a stable formation with Saka in front of him.

What's a noco and how much are they CVD?

Nice to see gboho back

We all want Simms to be what he can be but most of us also know that he is very rarely that player. Can't blame lampard for being ruthless. He has followed up goals with anonymous performances so often it feels like

Would like to see touchana on bench tho and onyenka start ahead of grimes perhaps

But overall decent team and we have a chance

I though tchaouna showed promise and his deliveries were pretty solid

It was stated lampard explicitly wanted him , and now hes not even in the squad
Gotta be patient. It seems talk of bombing out was premature. Touchana like dhaooy enough on social media videos recently. He just needs to keep working at whatever lampard feels he is lacking and I'm sure he will be back in like gboho

Dunno about that team honestly but whatever, come on City!!!

He might well put in maximum effort at training, be willing to play in the U21's etc. but he can also then go out afterwards and fill his body with crap.

Sadly for an elite level footballer then can't just treat work and life as totally separate due to the levels of fitness they need. Their attitude towards their fitness has to be part of their entire life to maintain the levels needed and that includes discipline in their diet outside of work. You can run 10-15k in a training session but if you then go out and stuff yourself with burgers you're going to struggle in a match situation against others with exceptional fitness but have the edge over you because they've had more discipline.

How do you know what his diet is like? Are you his personal chef?

Was hoping for some fresh faces in, but not sure how a team that lost 3-1 stays the same. No pace down the wings again.

Lampard liked what he saw at Spurs…

I'm not sure about sakamoto starting vital prem games but there is no other player I would enjoy seeing score a premier League goal than him
He's such a likeable character but I agree. Hopefully he tears them a new one though.

I'm not really sure what Sakamoto gets out of this arrangement tbh. He covers continuously for MVE defensively and barely get a pass or overlap forward.
Id rather play Sakamoto as an out and out attacking winger where he can do damage, the Spurs fullback wasn't enjoying it. Hopefully KKH can do a better job than MVE.

Full backs with his pace cant be that hard to find as we've got another one sat on the bench not able to get a game ahead of him.

It must be hard to be patient though if you see players underperforming each week but keeping their place. By any measure there should have been 3 or 4 changes today, totally baffling.
