Match Thread Everton vs Coventry City (A) - Hill Dickinson Stadium - Fri 6th November (8pm KO) (22 Viewers)

If we'd had a competent Var official, we would have won this game. I hope that this is what Lampard is telling our players.
Probably, but if you don’t take chances and give away poor goals, you’re allowing VAR to be a deciding factor.

To borrow a phrase, make it ‘too big to rig’.

The pen shouts were chances. Awoniyi gets a shot on goal if he isn't fouled.
Who knows where the ball goes if Yirencki doesn't get his hair pulled. It's piss poor tbh.

Not disagreeing but we had good chances regardless of the ones VAR got involved with.

Not only the VAR but the amount of questionable bookings we've had compared to our opponents is already taking the piss.
This is what is pissing me off more than anything. The opposition are allowed to hack our players down and they don't receive a yellow card. Our players make a genuine attempt to play the ball and miss it by a fraction and the refs can't wait to get their cards out.

Awoniyi got a straight red against Brighton for an elbow when he was battling for the ball in the air, yet 3 times in as many games our players have been elbowed in the face and we didn't even get a free kick for any of them!

This felt like our game versus Charlton last season where the newly promoted team took the lead and then we came back and won 3-1. Although I felt we were more competitive today than Charlton were and we could’ve actually won or got a draw if we’d not been so naive and not wilted under the pressure.

Frank needs to sort his decision making out on subs. 5mins to go and then he decides to bring 4 players on. It should have been earlier and stop brining BTA on.
Agree. I think Thomas-Asante is good to come in when holding onto something as his pressing and work rate helps the team. But when chasing, we need someone with better quality on the ball.

Just a thought. As VAR couldn’t give a foul on awonyi as they deemed it outside box. And as ref never blew for a foul at all why then did VAR not give a penalty for handball as their player clearly fell in the ball and handled it?

I do wonder if we had amends and Thomas in the back would tonights defence have been better. Wonder how much we miss them

Moving forwards I want to see a back line of KKH Thomas Amenda/ Pinnock Mfuni when all are fit . Thoughts ?

Not been as angry as this after a game for a good few years. We played well first 60 , but wasteful in the final third. Really wasteful.
Both penalty shouts, WERE penalties, and their 2nd goal WAS handball.
But still, it’s disappointing despite the VAR being against us, we capitulated like that. Conceding weak goals.
Awonwyi does some great things, but he doesn’t look like a goal scorer to me.
I mean why isn’t Simms brought on after they equalise.
Why isn’t Hamer on for Torp when they go in front.
Infact we don’t see Ellis at all (Unsurprisingly)
Hamer plays a couple of brilliant balls on the 9 mins he got (by then 3-1 down)
MVE - KKH has to be given a run now.
JDS - Is it or me or has he gone into his shell a little since Forest. Got caught a few times tonight too
Rushworth - I still back him, but he has to keep that first one out. Powerful header by Barry but close to Rushworth and at mid height. He palms it into the top corner. Not commanding enough on the 2nd ,and beaten on his near post for the 3rd, and he should have been out for the ball in the build up to that goal.
Should never have lost that game,
Agree with all of that.

the bottom 3 have Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea so good chance we can still be out of the bottom 3 for the shitty international break. 🤞

BTA the only sub at 2-1 down has absolutely blown my mind. Needed Hamer for Torp and one of Cherif or Tchaouna (maybe both) as fresh legs for the counter attack
BTA is not a Prem level player. We have a few such players who may have been part of our promotion campaign, but unfortunately are not cut out for this level. Hope we survive this season and reshape the squad.

They have a ridiculously high win percentage with this ref apparently. This was rigged from the start.

Not long home from the game. So frustrating as it felt like Everton were there for the taking and we should have at least gotten something out of the game.

For the goals, it just looked like we allowed Barry to drift into Dasilva and failed to follow the danger, think Rushworth should have done better for the third but Dewsbury-Hall was through on goal.

Everton seemed like a very functional, basic Premier League team. Tidy on the ball, took their chances and made the route through to goal as difficult as they possibly could. On the referee decisions....yeah, I don't think there's much point in going through those, they just looked plain wrong. I take heart from the fact we continue to compete and have a chance of staying up.

Dissapointing to lose but in happy with the performance and optimistic for rest of the season

Gboho looks really good. Yirenki is consistent. Cbs look strong. Taiwo had dangerous moments. Rudoni plays with confidence.

Poor game for the full backs and not sure why lampard didn't change things towards end.

We were hard done by at same time I do remember them relaxing the hair pull rules and if not being bias there isn't conclusive evidence he handballed it imo. The taiwo one was a pen however even if soft. Looked on box to me

Still overall a pleasing oetofrmsnce. We no longer play like a team punching above weight and look like we belong . Still lots of improvement to come though I'm sureheres to some good results Vs a our rivals this weekend and go into intl break outside the relegation zone. Then bring on palace where hopefully we show them we are here to stay

Pusb
That second one there was, looked at it, overlooked, var is just the same as a referee making the decision, just got a comitee deciding instead!

JDS has no competition for the LB slot and played like shit. Reminds me of how Grimes started every game and eventually got dropped. Time to start KKH in place of MVE and Mfuni in place of JDS. Maybe Hamer deserves a little more game time and BTA a little less. Also time to ditch the long throws. Wish we had a better goalie than Rushworth.

Was at the far end in the Everton end and it looked bad from Rushworths point of view at the time when conceding the goals. It looks every bit as bad now I’ve seen them back. A real honking performance from him. Everyone else has done pretty well to adapt to the level it seems, unfortunately Rushworth is still in the Championship 🫤

Just got home. Gutted. We were well in that game then just wasteful. Rushworth has to do better for me on 2/3 of those goals.

Only just read about the VAR reviews - FFS

We played very well until we went ahead. This and the Tottenham game have shown that we need to work a lot harder on keeping our shape after going ahead. We must stop crosses coming in.

Does seem like a case of bigger club get the decisions but if I think with my head the hair pull would have been a pen and a red last season but not this as the rule changed, the foul by Mykolenko possibly was outside the area and I've only seen the Barry goal live and with one replay and it's not conclusive it's handball. Maybe after 25 watches and multiple angles I'll feel different.
