Match Thread Everton vs Coventry City (A) - Hill Dickinson Stadium - Fri 6th November (8pm KO) (3 Viewers)

How many different post match interviews does Lampard have to give, must be tiresome to repeat the same over and over again
So far I’ve seen individual interviews with Sky Sports, BBC, and the club, and then this post-match press conference. I would not have the patience for it.

Also not only does Barry handball it in

He also pulls rushworth away from the ball.

I said at the start of the season that I was determined to enjoy it and the only thing I can see stopping me doing that would be VAR and so its proving to be.

Its just an utter shambles and as Grendel said, with some of the stuff theyre missing, whats the point in having it?

We also contributed to our own downfall last night with poor game management but we'll learn

I think it was Chris Sutton who said in the Liverpool game Isaak didn’t appeal. If it was Arsenal they’d be yelling. We didn’t make much of the two big calls really. Against Forest both Thomas and grimes were demanding a foul. It does make some difference I think

I mean the one on Yirenchi the players ran over to the ref gesturing hair pulling.

I just think we didn’t really sign a quality left back or a centre forward who has top league goal scoring experience. I don’t think anyone thought MVE would struggle like he has but with Dasilva your almost forced to try a back 3 as he’s not a full back at this level

I agree , cherif has big potential but is too young to lead a line right now .. MVE i think can improve still and get to where he needs to be , dasilva continues to be an achilles heel despite fans praise .. id try mfuni there when thomas comes back

And Thomas will be back for Palace, is that correct or is he out for longer?

Oddly I thought we looked the dominant midfield after the start.

Scoring seem to make us fall apart. I think we will look competitive enough in a lot of games (better than I thought tbh) but at this level we won’t score enough goals and the opposition will target the left side - I didn’t notice at the time but his defending for the goal against Fulham was laughable.

We will go down as we can’t get draws in games that we lose. 3 draws from those defeats and we are top half.

I think after the break I’d like to see this, no slight on Sakamoto, I just want to see what Tchaouna can do. MvE needs dropping he’s been poor and KKH deserves a chance to prove himself. No slight on Mfuni too he’s been class however Bobby is different gravy, Cherif has looks good so far and I want to see him have more of a chance, especially with Haji coming back

Bench:
Bentley, Mfuni, MvE, Grimes, Onyeka, Hamer, EMC, Sakamoto, Wright

(Again harsh on Simms and Awoniyi to not even make the squad however we cant have too many strikers on the bench maybe 1 in for Onyeka/Hamer)

It was Stuart fucking Attwell, why did you expect us to be given anything? The bloke is just an incompetent pos and coupled with blind var operators, we were always getting fucked over! I wonder when the letter from Webb will come apologising for the mistakes?

Mfuni over JDS as we’re being targeted having a small bloke at LB

Sorry if already written but both Barry goals down to defensive errors.

1st Mfuni lack of experience tells-completely out of position that leads to Pinoock marking 3 players & leaving Barry to Dasilva (good movement from Barry to peel off him at the far post tho).

The second (regardless of the fact it was a clear handball) it was an identical situation-Dasilva should have communicated to Pinnock that he had lost Barry (Pinnock should’ve stuck to him like a fuckin limpet given a few minutes earlier he’d scored).

Both times Dasilva was bloody useless-but given his stature we all knew this was his Achilles heel-despite him being one of players of the season so far.

Both goals easily avoidable.

Rushworths positioning for the third was bloody awful (and for a keeper of his talent unforgivable), far too big a gap on his near post-a few minutes later Pickford was in the same scenario and he had a hand on the post making sure the player couldn’t score through him.

Again another defensive error-in fact the whole game Everton only created from our mistakes (like giving the ball away cheaply in midfield).

I know that Lampard and his team will go through these incidents and we will learn from them.

Like some have already said-better to lose looking like we might get something from the game (or be cheated out of it by Var incompetence) than sleepwalking our way to defeat as we did against Fulham.

Add to that Sakamoto's attempt at a clearance for the first; not convinced by him away from home.

Only catching up and re-watching some of the game now. Dasilva is so poor for all three goals. Suspect we will concede a lot more goals like the 1st and 2nd if we don't get a new left back in January.

Im not throwing my hat into the relegation hat yet , but lampard has to use his bench better and we have to manage games better when ahead

Or try Mfuni there?

I thought they did look at it?

Surely they look at the whole incident? They can't say "we will ignore the 2 other things and just check for the one"

How can they NOT look at it?
I spoke to somebody who works for PGMO (a friend of mine but he won't say anything against PGMO) when it happened, said it was subjective, a cursory look at it, but they spent most of the time looking at the handball. Just as bad was Atwell giving a goal kick when it was a blatant corner. He also said it wasn't a foul on Awoniyi and that is why it was not overturned, once Atwell had not given a foul. PGMO were also adamant that it wasn't handball. They are not allowed to listen to the Sky commentary.

VAR said it was a foul on awoniyi?

Our full backs have been a defensive issue for a long time. Neither are defenders in reality. I’d prefer Mfuni in at left back and I’d be targeting a RB in January. The CF bit is more problematic as they don’t come cheap. We’ve tried to mitigate that by going all in on physicality. That only couples itself with pure goalscoring ability in the absolute top echelons.

We don't need a right back, just play KKH who is just a better footballer than MVE. Look at the 2 goals he scored last season, would MVE have scored them, no.

I want Mfuni at CB the lad beats presses on his own. Would be wasted with his passing range and press resistance out wide tbh

On the Leftback debate. If you go three at the back ( Thomas - Pinnock - Mfuni ), you can keep Mfunis more central to help us beat the press and have more protection on the left flank.

Still think there’s value in the 3-4-3 with this squad. Especially away from home ( Not having Thomas or Amenda does limit us mind).

So it wasn't a handball in the box? Which one? ha
