Match Thread Nottingham Forest vs Coventry City (A) - City Ground - Sat 19th September (5.30pm KO) (36 Viewers)

It depends on the formation he's going to play.

If he's going 5 at the back again I think he will bring Mfuni in there.

If it's the 4, he has to start Gboho and Torp after last night.

I dont get why Hamer has become a boo boy all of a sudden, he’s like marmite at the moment. Im not saying he was amazing Im just saying he looked useful and the midfield as a whole looked better than it has done all season with that three, why dont we just try and keep some form of consistency. Hamer was alright I had no issues with his performance or fitness, he looked to have a burst of pace getting back and stopping a certain Villa goal

Edit: also he looked like he was going to create something first half, he was playing some good passes through the lines

Line up for me would be

Rushworth
Milan - Thomas - Mfuni - Dasilva
Torp - Yirenkyi
Tchaouna - Rudoni - Gboho
Simms

Don’t think Pinnock has the legs for a back four, Torp deserves a start. Simms over Cherif for me but don’t really mind it either way.

Sakamoto was hopeless, he had two good opportunities to run at his full back and try and get a shot in and he flapped it from both of them.
We didnt get the ball out to him enough or quickly enough, it says alot that when him and Cherif went off we became 1 dimensional and stopped creating, also we have to remember we had Lati behind him again, have MvE there and he’d have more support, Villa doubled up on him knowing he can jink one way or another and whip a good ball in, he probably didnt want a repeat of the Plymouth game where he lost it taking someone on and we conceded

It cannot be Simms he was crap last night, Cherif was much much the better player

3-0 Forest. Another drubbing coming our way

I thought Sakamoto was awful to be honest. He really needed to have a good game last night and it completely passed him by. That said, we've still got this myth of Tchaouna where people are hanging their hopes on him instead. When he came on I felt he was awful as well.

This post will piss everyone off as it seems you have to be in one camp or the other with these two players. Reality is, I'm not sure either are good enough.

Rushworth
MVE-Thomas/Pinnock-Mfuni-JDS
Torp-Caleb
Loum-Rudi-Ghobo
Cherif

Torp ahead of Grimes now for me, not sure it happens though. I'm guessing we might revert to a back four given our now limited options at CB.

2-0 loss, I can’t see us not conceding and I cannot see where the goals are coming from.

I would stick with the 5 atb, Mfuni slots into LCB and alongside Pinnock & Bobby. Yirenkyi & Torp in the midfield. Gboho & Tchaouna behind Cheriff so we have got some real pace on the counter to push them back.

However if the rumours about MVE injury are true, we can't be starting Lat's at RWB so he has to got to a back 4 and whoever ends up playing RW is has got some serious work to get through to help Lat's out or Williams & Ndoye are going to have a field day.

Drop the defense 2 yards back
Press higher
Rudi as more of the "box crasher"
More crosses

We all know full well that Grimes will start.

If Milan is out, I think you have to play Caleb as RWB and play Torp and Onyeka in the middle

I would be amazed if Sakamoto started a single game for us in the league this season. Not that its going to make much difference to the outcome of this season mind.

I think a couple of players have played their way in to the starting lineup, Sakamoto looked quite threatening, and I think this midfield 3 worked really well together and we looked like we had an actual midfield for once, I think Gboho looked promising but I can see it either way for Ephron to start instead. Same goes with Gus I can see Frank putting Grimes or Rudi in

What on earth were you watching yesterday to come to these ocncluscions

If we are going 3 CBs and MVE isn't fit you can try someone like Tchaouna at RWB, Chelsea us Neto as a RWB.

So Rushworth
Thomas-Pinnock-Mfuni
Tchaouna-Torp-Caleb-JDS
Rudi-Ghobo
Cherif

That allows you to use the "box" midfield

Looking forward to another away day at a new ground and going in with zero expectation for a result, just want to enjoy the experience as much as I can whilst the novelty is still there.

Torp did more than enough last night to earn a start, so Grimes will definitely be playing instead of him. If I accept it now, I won't be angry on Saturday at 4pm when the squad is released.

Maybe not a bad shout about Yirenkyi, think he’s covered similar positions before, would be a shame not to have him in the middle though. Alternatively as DOD says Tchaouna

Either though as Lati at RB or RWB in the prem is not what anyone wants to see

Sums up our luck this season. MvE and KKH out at same time, throw in Amenda as well. Eccles could do a job at RWB, also injured. Just not going our way

If Milan is out, it has to be one of Yirenkyi or Tchouana as a wing back.
If we line up with Lati at RB in a back 4 I’ll be half cut by 4 o clock.

Impressive as it's a 17:30 kick off ;)

I'd be interested in Torp, Onyeka, Yerinkyi in a flat 3.

Tchaouna Cherif Gboho front 3

See no reason why the trend of giving away piss poor goals and not taking any of our chances won't continue here.

3,4 or 5-0.

Rushworth and Torp have to play. Saka wasn’t as bad as some are making out.
Gboho and Yerenkiyi and Mfuni all made contributions.
It’s defensive issues that are likely to lose the game for us. Because of injuries Thomas and Pinnock will have to play and neither look good enough right now.

You can’t do the first 2 at the same time, if you press higher and drop the defence back you open the pitch up more meaning teams will find it even easier to play through and glide past. The issue is we are not compact in the right way, often we defend the box with everyone in it and we’re slow to get out.

What needs to happen is we need to show a shape, I think we need a clear back 4 with one of Torp or Grimes sat in front screening, not in it, in front, then have another 4 ahead of it pressing it in the midfield but holding position, let the Striker push their backline back and be an outlet for a quick counter or holdup play.

Our issue is we can’t see a clear shape at times, players go for walk abouts, no there needs to be discipline and there needs to be grit and heart. We need players who want it and players who will fight and we shouldnt be scared to give our best for 60 minutes then make a change rather than conserve and play 90. Its a different game.

Tell them to run their hearts out then reinforce at 60, then again at 75 to sure it up. The issues are obvious to see its structural, we need to find a shape stick to it and find an 11 and stick to it. We need the leaders to step up, Grimes will have a part to play but for me it’ll be similar to Liam Kelly’s role come on to sure it up and calm it down later on and show your quality to retain the ball and relieve pressure

Grimes is on interview duty today if that has any relative to who might be starting

Let me just enlighten you,

For me Gus played decent, he showed heart and determination. First half he was creating chances which dried up second half when he had no movement to create for when Tats and Cherif went off. He also came close to scoring. He won the ball frequently and progessed it well including making a bursting covering run to stop a clear goalscoring chance for Villa.

Gboho carried the ball well and showed quality, in the 1st half at one point he had 4 Villa players around him dribbled his way through and had an effort on goal, he also worked back and supported Mfuni and looked really promising able to mix it up going wide and cutting inside.

Sakamoto worked really hard and supported Lati really well defensively, its hard when you go from having the pace and support of MvE behind you to having a slug like Lati who is clearly a CB and not good enough at RB. It says it all when we became one dimensional when he went off the ball wasnt going to him quick enough and Villa doubled up on him, if MvE was there with the overlapping run they wouldnt be able to.

Cherif looked really lively creating chances for himself, held the ball up well, made some good runs and clearly has good movement, looked quite comfortable on the ball and has a decent burst of pace. He was useful in the linkup often offering and quickly releasing it then moving simple and basic but we looked like we had nothing going forward when he went off.

Torp we all know he should start, I also think having him and Gus with crazy good passing ranges and vision offers something extra.

Yirenkyi looked like a good foil for Torp offering the physicality and work rate, he’s young and naive but the best way to learn is by trying. He has plenty of heart and he will settle down he’s got the pressure of being our record signing.

Thomas and Pinnock easy decision, we need experience there Pinnock has abundance of that, and Thomas has been our best player this season. They need to stick to a partnership and with Amenda out for a while what better than to try now.

Dasilva and MvE back in, Milan has been poor this season but I dont want to see Lati at RB in the Premier league, and Dasilva has been up there with Bobby, his ball retention and ball winning ability is top, and I think Mfuni had a decent game and showed a lot of quality but is young and inexperienced, give him chances off the bench and have him bide his time, I trust Dasilva.

Rushworth back in, easy decision.

There we go Sparky, also I expressed in another thread what I see the issue to be with the system want me to link it in? It backs up what I think here even further, I may well be wrong but its a site for opinions we’ll all have different ones

Edit: with the last bit forgot it was on this thread already 2 posts up!
