Well, at some stage it either weakens, medicines develop (they are with the antivirals as we speak) and / or people build up enough immunity through vaccines etc.

And tbf over 50s are encouraged to have an annual flu jab, and it is available for others too. Bear in mind although flu can be transmitted quite well, there are also benign forms to allow people to gain some natural immunity, and it'll be less transmissable than an airborne virus anyway. When we get to the stage of Covid having the same impact as flu once we employ the same measures... that's when things relax a little wrt jabs etc, really.

You should look up the medical dictionary definition of vaccine. It’s working exactly as a vaccine is designed to. A vaccines purpose is to prepare your immune system for a virus. Some people will receive immunity from it but the majority will still get it, some will never know they had it because their immunity system was prepared, some will know they’ve had it but get nowhere near as ill as they would otherwise. It’s doing exactly what it says on the tin and will continue to keep your tank full. Ie get your booster.

So you haven’t. I have had two and will have a booster as I don’t want to be responsible for other people dying

Why won’t you answer when I will?

I’ve never had my prostate checked but I have had checks for a form of skin cancer which is negative and I’ve got my first flu jab next week

So vaxxed or not?

Being vaxxed doesn´t guarantee that you won´t be responsible for other people dying by the way.

But again, it is none of your fucking business what my medical status is.

This whole war of vaxxed versus unvaxxed is something people like you and Tony are gunning for, but then get upset when they say unless you have the booster that 65+ could have their freedoms taken away. You almost couldn´t make it up.

I said I didn´t want to wear a mask in an office for 8 hours. I wear one on the metro and in shops.

What gets me is the way the government are talking & acting as if we've had no vaccine roll-out at all - surely we're in a different place now at this stage of the pandemic now we've been double jabbed

Let´s say you are sat next to two people. One is unvaxxed, the one on the other side is vaxxed.

The unvaxxed one had a test in the last 48 hours which proves they haven´t got the virus.

Which one are you most likely at risk from?

I’d say the person who’s had the test in the last 48 hours.

Edit: No wait.

I mean you are most at risk from the person who’s been vaccinated I read it wrong. Ha ha

Negative test trumps everything in that situation for me.

The unvaxxed person, right?

I tested negative for coronavirus on the day I received my positive PCR test, for context.

Depends. Has the guy who hasn’t been vaccinated but tested 48 hours ago been in isolation from the point of the test until they sat next to you? If not it’s the guy who hasn’t been vaccinated. The only thing he can prove is that he didn’t have it 48 hours ago and he’s more at risk to catching it than the vaccinated person in the 48 hours from their test.

If they've not been vacciinated, they're also, you would think, more likely to play fast and loose with what they do too, therefore taking less care to protect the person they're sat next to...

Not enough people have got the vaccine. It’s as simple as that. We’re no where near the percentage of population required for herd immunity which leaves us all vulnerable regardless of whether you’ve had the vaccine or not. The next driver is going to be people who let their vaccine effectiveness be depleted by refusing a booster. Which lets face it will need to be annual at the very least, same as the flu jab.

Bloke that lives down the road from me thinks the virus is a hoax but also pretty much bolts himself indoors as he doesn't want his mum getting infected. So he's literally locked himself in the house convinced the virus is made up while simultaneously being terrified of it.

The unvaxxed one clearly has an issue with the vaccine policy and can engineer a negative result or could attract it 46 hours ago not 48 - not for me

Tbh I've a cousin who is firmly anti vax and swallows all the drivel about by experiments etc. I did my best to talk him round but all the reason in the world can't get through to someone who has accepted that nonsense in the first place.
As for the crass comment about over 80s or obese people being killed by it, just remember that a 35 year old poster who from here was killed by it last April with his partner pretty close to meeting the same fate as well

So? The average age of people dying from it is 80 or over…one person aged 35 who died from it doesn’t change that (official) stat

Statistical averages don't change that it isn't just people over 80 dying. Regardless, death isn't the only outcome. The average age of somebody admitted to ICU is 53 which is hardly knocking on is it?

I am.

And the strange thing is i know what I'm saying is probably ridiculous to people, especially considering how vocal i was about getting the initial 2 jabs and how pleased i was when i got them

But i just dont see why for me. I was classed as vulnerable as im asthmatic, hence i had both jabs by may. I've also had my flu jab of course (every year)

But im just completely disillusioned by having a 'booster' of something that need 2 fucking jabs to fully work anyway. And 3 in the space of 9 months?

Id understand if it was targeting say the delta variant but its not, its the same that I've had 2 of. And id like to think at 31with my immune system, and the 2 jabs I've had should get me through.

If we're looking at yearly boosters sign me up. Something i have to have 3 of in less than a year doesnt sit right with me anymore.

Feel free to call me a twat

It's a pretty stupid logic tbh. The vaccines are brand new so they didn't know how long protection would sustain.

People in this country (despite it being governed by a load of pilfering bastards) are nevertheless incredibly fortunate to be offered a full course if the vaccine, it's mental that people turn it down. This winter is going to be very grim Indeed in places without the vaccine coverage we've got.

It's not just deaths of course. My best mate's brother-in-law, younger than us, is still with us but was in hospital for a while, and it took him months to be able to get up the stairs again easily. Ironically he'd have been more load on the NHS, if we're protecting that, than if he'd croaked it.

Is it going to be grim? Cases dropping, more people vaccinated, more treatments in hospitals etc.

I mean its not going to be a walk in the park by any means but i cant see it being anywhere near the catastrophe that was last winter

reread the post, he said it will be grim in places without the coverage we have.
Therefore we need to keep our coverage up to prevent that happening here.
