Match Thread Everton vs Coventry City (A) - Hill Dickinson Stadium - Fri 6th November (8pm KO) (80 Viewers)

A few of us have booked apartments on Mathew street. Quite a few bars do happy hour there. Had food and cheap pints in the McCooleys bar last time I was up there. Belter

Any parking recommendations for a quick get away after the match finishes.

Happy to walk to get away from the stadium

I rarely see past Lark lane - but that's where the wife grew up. Has a mug telling us all she's a posh scouser....its all very odd behaviour for a grown woman :ROFLMAO:.

Slightly off track, but I'll take the opportunity for a small rant.......Liverpool has had so much investment and being proper spoilt over the last few decades....I seem to recall it all started after the European City of Culture back in the 80's. Cities like ours, despite being one of the countries most famous medieval Cities gets pretty much fook all !!

I do love Liverpool and my Dad's family are from north Liverpool and had pubs around Goodison back in the day...but feck me, Id just like to see little old Coventry get a bit of the treatment and investment that Liverpool has had !! And despite that favourable treatment, we still have that bizarre and strange take on being scouse and not English! (In my wifes words...."that's the red shite who say that daft stuff").
It had loads of ERDF and ESF funding in the 90s and 00s, on the latter it was a special case because of the employment situation. To be fair it clearly did a lot of good. Three Cheers for public spending to address market failure.

Go to the original Mathew St Irish bar Flanagan's instead - ten quid for a pint and lunch - I recommend the gammon steak!

Should have just gone Sky Dome, been cheaper.

Many moons ago in the 90’s I got caught up in such horrendous traffic after an accident in the Northwest that I only got to Goodison Park by half time and the turnstiles were all closed. I went up to a big gate and a steward said ‘ come on lad ‘ and let me in for nowt . Think it was 1-1.
I’d settle for a draw tomorrow.

My favourite one was a game where ndlovu ran the length of the pitch and scored just before half time. It ended 1-1 and for the whole of half time the fans were singing Sky blue army - was so much fun

I went to the last game of the season where they needed to win or draw and rely on other results to stay up - the noise and atmosphere at the start was nothing like I had ever experienced before - off the scale . They led for most if the match and the mood was anxious but positive , when Dublin equalised near the end it went poisonous and I thought we were dead . Thankfully I think it was Bolton who didn’t win elsewhere and we were safe

Thats a rehash of the rumour that went round about the Columbian lad a few years ago, Rodriguez, I think.
Just a piss take from whoever posted it

I remember that :ROFLMAO: Initially I thought it was about Calvert Lewin but it's definitely Rodriguez. I was getting mixed up with a clip where some scouse bloke was banging on about "Our number 9, wears knickers and bras".

I wonder if it's Everton fans or scousers in general who have a thing for crossdressers & trans?

....Any who, I think we can get a point. Their striker, Barry, needs about 1000 attempts per goal but like any Moyes side. They are defensively sound, 2 goals wins us the game, I think. Whether we get them is a different story.

I've booked a social club but to be fair the reviews say people have booked it, turned up and there's no spaces. So not holding out hope. Looks like it will be a right ball ache getting out too. Plan B is park at Strand Shopping Centre and get the park and ride.

I was there too.

I genuinely feared for my safety that day, the atmosphere was menacing, it was the only game I can recall that I didn't want us to win.

Thanks. Wish I was staying over rather than travelling back the same night

Yep went to that game as a kid was genuinely scared when we equalised haha. The whole ground was shaking when they scored their goal too - Gareth Farrelly I believe?

If we want to start imposing ourselves on teams more Asante cannot start. Not for a want of trying, but just not technically good enough.

I was sitting on the rightmost seat of our fans so Everton fans were only 2 metres away from us. If we had sent them day I probably wouldn’t be writing this now. They were vile and baying for blood.

Think we're most likely to name an unchanged line-up for this.

I'm pleased that the changes I wanted resulted in an improvement on the pitch, I'm not going to say 'well, we've cracked it!" and expect us to be fine from here on in. We'll still have poor performances now and again, plus against Sunderland we have the element of surprise with Grimes dropping out etc. which Sunderland probably won't have planned for. Everton will and the likes of Torp and Gboho will probably find it harder this game. Plus it's away which always makes it harder.

I'd take a 1-1 right now, and hopefully we can continue along the lines we set out last Saturday. Everton will be organised and difficult to break down.

Biggest worry is that we've not really got anything on the bench where you think that player could make a difference. BTA and EMC haven't been causing teams many problems and Grimes and Onyeka are both defensive midfielders and Hamer looks a shadow of what he was so it's more a bench to protect a lead than score.
