Match Thread Coventry City vs Aston Villa [LC] (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Wed 16th September (8pm KO) (4 Viewers)

Torp has played himself into a starting spot on Saturday imo.
I’m not so sure. Yirenkyi had to be nailed on for what’s likely to be one of two spots. We all fear Lamps will then go Grimes which will be a travesty. I’d go Onyeka as the defence is so fragile he gives better cover albeit Lamps seems to favour splitting them. But you could drop Rudi, add Torp and rely on others to support Cherif. That would work on paper, but needs a bit more bravery. Definitely not Onyeka pushing on as the false number 10 either, we know that didn’t work!

thought you were on peoples case calling for him to be sacked. my mistake if its somebody else

I dont agree we should call for him to be sacked.
But why you feel the need to quote a post from someone else and mention other posters is strange, but whatever floats your boat.

How many teams get battered with less than 20 points a season in the PL then walk the championship.

You’re deluded if you don’t think we make the playoffs at least. The premier league is just much harder than you think.
Yep absolutely. I'm over this cluster fuck of a season already but talk of Luton, Leicester is boring. Parachute clubs have a huge advantage and we'll be under no financial pressure at all.

This. It was pretty obvious that a lot of posters on here hadn't actually watched the PL for a long time.

alright dont get your back up. crikey.

100%. It feels like most teams could put 2 past us which means a hell of an upturn required on output upfront. What you have said is an urgent priority
The worry is the players don’t look capable of suddenly becoming solid and compact through tactics alone. The gap in quality and concentration levels is frightening.

Luton said that 3 years ago
Leicester said that 2 years ago
And it won’t last forever for those clubs either. Very likely we could have a bad two years, but knowing we have our own stadium gives us some stability to knows things will have to turnaround at some point.

If Hamer hadn’t played for us before people would be going wild at us signing Sheffield United rejects who can’t do any off the ball work.

Yep he's not at the level needed. Completely outshone by Torp tonight, who was one of the very few players to come out of it with any credit.

Like most of the games bar arsenal there’s periods tonight where you think ok we are giving it a go here maybe they are getting it together. There working hard to create these chances as well…then a couple of simple passes and suddenly Villa are in or up the other end really easily. Barely a challenge nothing complicated or intricate play. All the goals were just comically bad.

Set pieces (other than torps free kick) we have been woeful at all season so far that’s attacking and defending. Thats one area after last season I thought we might be strong but we’ve gone backwards.

Just don’t know how this gets turned around. I was surprised at the lack of any extra coaching staff bought in but again not sure if it would make a difference. Unless he can pull a rabbit out the hat against Forest I do fear a big defeat and doug may pull the plug and try someone else.

Hamer was in mind for if we get relegated, lets have it right.

Same reason lati has been kept on. Hes cheap and hes reliable at cb in the championship.

Same as kitching who will come back

Same as Torp and sakamoto. Grimes

You'd be mental to get rid of players who will almost certainly help get you top 6.

The problem we've got is they're having to feature as the new boys aren't ready

Positives and negatives in that.
I’ve criticised Torp but he was excellent. Yirenkyi had the energy weve needed but just has to calm down. Mfuni looked confident and effective. Gboho visibly grew as the game went on.
Negatives. We’re just so piss poor defensively and even worse have no options to try at CH.
We did ok when there was a degree of chaos but we’re just very very easy to score against.

Imran Louza was going for the same price as Hamer and is a better player as well as being in better shape.

I cannot believe Bobby didn't leather it. What has happened between the Stoke game in 2025 and now? How did he have enough confidence to just put his foot through the ball then but not now?
His whole game had become timid. Stopped coming out with the ball, most passes backwards, marking space and not getting tight. Still good at blocking shots but it’s as though he’s so nervous about making mistakes that he’s stopped being the Bobby T of last season we all loved. Not just him, I think the huge step up has come as a big shock to many, MVE, Tats, Grimes.
