Match Thread Everton vs Coventry City (A) - Hill Dickinson Stadium - Fri 6th November (8pm KO) (8 Viewers)

A win would be lovely. I haven't watched them this season but they are now up to 7th so they're doing ok and that was a good result last night. I think a draw is realistic after the big win on Saturday. Although we don't seem to do draws.
I would start the same team as Saturday as everyone did well and it wouldn't be fair to drop anyone. This would be harsh on Thomas as he has been playing very well, maybe drop Pinnock for him?

No , no , no.

1-1 Torp to score from a free kick
Another positive to having him in the side, I can’t think of many players in the league, maybe even the world I’d want a free kick from the very edge of the penalty area over him.

Seen on X last night he has 9 goal contributions in his last 11 games. 1 every 54 mins, compared to Grimes who has relatively no goal threat.

Yeh it sounds hyperbolic but i can't think of many better than him even at the level we are at now. You always feel like there's a genuine chance it's going in.

The one on Saturday was just out of his perfect range, anything central within 25 yards is basically a penalty for him.

For the same reason I suspect it’s so hard to shift MvE from the team cos we lose the long throw, I’d have him in more than not because set pieces are so vital for a team like us. I’d rather have Rudoni in the middle too as he’s got an eye for goal in the area.

I agree we need to make sure 'threats' are in the team when obviously we are a team expected to be near the bottom. One Torp thunderbolt could make all the difference come end of season.

I’d still like to see us go for a similar profile in Jan. It’s what I felt was lacking from the squad and hoped Hamer would bring but he’s not going to play that role at this level.

Hamer is a player that should just be used when Rudi needs a break, he cannot play in that midfield 2. I think if we want to evolve and try and dictate games a bit more than maybe a Prem version of Grimes but if you asked me to sign a player in 1 position in Jan it would probably be CM.

Yeah a really good technical midfielder next to Yirenkyi should be our top priority if we stay up

I'm happy they won at Newcastle. Even more now, they will be expecting an easy 3 points on Friday, and if we play like we did on Sat (or against Man City & Forest) things might turn out well.

Stuart Attwell is the ref for this

From Nuneaton isn't he? I am shocked they have allowed that

The city centre has changed beyond belief and there`s as many tourists at the weekend, as there are locals.

If you need any recommendations on where to eat and drink, give me a shout, as you can almost spilt the city into six areas now :

The Georgian Quarter ( beautiful area around by the Anglican Cathedral, posh and relaxed )
The Baltic Triangle ( warehouse conversions, funky and cool )
Concert Square area ( where the youngsters go and lively )
Mathew Street area ( Beatles)
The Albert Dock ( refined and relaxing )
Dale Street area ( wonderful old city centre pubs )

Plus, there`s a mind boggling amount of places to eat now too !
You could probably add a 7th area to that list, Ranelagh St, Great Charlotte St & up towards Lime St.

Top of Town ( lively loud cheapish & cheerful )

Much prefer Everton fans to Liverpool. Proper football people and nicer
They’re basically the same people from the same families 🤔 unless of course you’re talking about the many Liverpool supporters not from Merseyside.

As the roads are all closed off, the coaches are parked about five mins walk away from the ground, on the main road that the ground is on.

There`s a few bars popped up facing the ground, which sell shite overpriced lager and some half decent food trucks on the plaza at the ground, that sell a variety of stuff.

There`s one proper pub - the Bramey Moor, which is about ten mins walk from the ground, as you walk back towards the city centre.

There`s a very nice hotel, The Titanic, which is about 15 mins walk away, which has a fantastic bar, but pricey. ( a lot of foreign players from both teams live there when they first arrive )

It`s one of those old industrial areas, where there used to be a pub on every corner and cafes everywhere, but fell on it`s arse as the docks died.

Home fans and away fans mix quite happily, I haven`t seen or heard about one bit of aggro and that includes dickheads like Newcastle !

The titanic is a fantastic hotel. Prices not that bad in truth and the food is pretty reasonably priced

The pub struck gold by being there. I went in once before the ground was fully built and I went in the club shop just as it was opening

Liverpool is great - I love it. Stop in the hope street hotel as well sometimes when going to a concert over the road.

Spot on, for a hotel as posh as that, the Titanic is very reasonably priced, both for food and drink, it`s just too far out of the centre for me. James Rodriguez lived had a suite there whilst he was at Everton and you`d quite often see him in the bar or restaurant with his entourage, he was a really sound guy, happy to talk o everyone and have his photo taken.( Pity fat boy Benitez held a grunge from their time at Real Madrid together ! )

Around by the Hope St hotel is by far my favourite area to eat and drink, you`ve got the beautiful Georgian architecture, set in the shadow of the Anglican Cathedral.

There`s some of Liverpool`s finest back street pubs all within walking distance - The Belvedere, Ye Cracke, The Roscoe Head, The Blackburne Arms, The Cambridge and that`s without venturing into the likes of The Philharmonic.

Then you`ve got all the new stuff that`s sprung up over the past few years, you could spend a whole weekend eating and drinking in that area and not have to leave.

It`s mad to think, that only twenty years ago around there was full of prossies and smackheads, dingy bedsits and generally wasn`t a safe place to be after dark !

Bit rough around there for me, but great for a day time drink.

Full of proper old skool daytime drinking nutters :ROFLMAO:

You can add the grapes to that list, also Peter Kavanaghs, don't get more quirky than there!

And the Blackburne Arms for it`s food, beer and roaring fire in the Winter, the Pilgrim and Everyman Bistro, plus there`s all the new ones that have opened up in Everyman end of Hope Street and the whisky place that`s opened up in Rodney St.

There`s just so many tucked away around there and I haven`t been to half of them :ROFLMAO:

I was gutted when they shut the Caledonian, as that was one of my favourite pubs in the UK.

You could be sat next to a fella in a suit and tie and next to him there could be a white rasta, with a dog on a bit of string. Proper pub, with great cheap veggie food, wonderful beers and everyone was welcome.

Just a pity they were crap at running a business !

what’s the strange Irish bar opposite hope street hotel that looks - clearly deliberately - it’s from the 70’s

I`ve not been in, as it`s very new, but it`s called the Shandon Bells or something like that.

There`s a few pubs like this sprung up, that are brand new, but made to look " old ".

There`s a another new pub, that`s been made to look old in Hope Street, just over the road from the Philharmonic, tucked away in back alley alongside the Casa bar - The Engineer.

Been to most of them. An ex colleague used to take us for a pub crawl in Liverpool and we'd do a sort of loop starting at the Philharmonic
