Match Thread Everton vs Coventry City (A) - Hill Dickinson Stadium - Fri 6th November (8pm KO) (6 Viewers)

Nice conundrum to have but I feel that you can't leave Pinnock, Thomas or Mfuni out of the team.

Pinnock for his calmness and experience
Thomas for his attacking threat from set pieces and rugged defending
Mfuni for just the quality of player he is

So someone needs to make way, we either play 5 at the back and one of the midfield 5 are dropped or we play 4 at the back and move Mfuni into centre mid with either Yirenkyi or Torp benched.

Either way, it's a great problem to have and I really feel we can beat Everton. Had such a soft start to the season. Even when they beat Palace at home in the first game, Palace outplayed them... could get 6 points out of the next 6...

Of course you can leave Pinnock, Thomas or Mfuni out of the team? We're not going to build our whole game plan around 'we have 3 centre backs playing well so let's just bodge them in even if it makes no sense.'

Back five please. Drop one of the wingers, preferably Gboho, to accommodate Thomas.

However he won't, he'll play the same again

Yesterday showed that having your best footballers on the pitch pays dividends. I genuinely think we could play Mfuni in any position on the pitch (maybe not GK) and he would be good

Everton playing on Monday as well so we'll in theory be 'fresher' - they've not got much squad depth either. That said, still got some quality players.

Lampard return to Everton
Simms return to Everton
Thomas return to Everton

They play Monday and then Friday again. 2 days extra rest and prep time hopefully puts us in a decent position.

Happy with a point but we should be confident and go to win the game.

drop ghobo after his last performance? nah

Would FL consider Mfuni at LB and Thomas next to Pinnock if he is fit. Im not saying i would or that JDS has done anything wrong, i just wonder if FL would want to see Mfuni in that position.

I think we will see the same starting line up but think FTT makes the bench with BTA or EMC dropping out. Still want to see Loum get into this squad.

They’re professional athletes, the extra rest means absolutely nothing and will make no difference.

Simms wouldn't be on the bench. Not that its my opinion but lampard clearly isnt a fan

I am surprised Everton aren’t making more of a fuss of being made to play Thursday-Sunday-Friday in little over a week

Apparently getting to and from this stadium is an absolute nightmare anyway and Merseyrail are doing engineering works to boot

Stick with the same starting line up, think we performed well at the weekend and looked like our old selves.

2-0 win. The second coming in injury time. Gboho, Torp.

3 points again ole ole.

Don’t think Saka is great in the 10 or away tbh and Rudi isn’t great on the wing if you go 541 I think its Gboho and Rudi in the box if you go 3ATB.

I was just going to post this.

The situation with the trains is a disgrace - one small local station ( Sandhills ) to serve everyone going to the ground from both directions, means that the trains end up like cattle trucks. ( the council were supposed to build a brand new purpose built station as part of the new ground development, but as always with local government, it failed to materialise )

What a good portion of fans do, home and away, is have a pint in and around the Dale Street end of the city centre ( loads of historic old proper pubs ), which is the end of the city closest to the ground and walk - about 20 mins.

However with it being a Friday evening ko, it`d pretty much mean leaving mid afternoon at the latest.

You can`t get near the ground in a car either, as all the roads around it, are closed off too.

It`s the exact same for all the fans, home and away.

How far from the ground is the coach park mate?

I`m going for a scrappy 1-1 and a very warm welcome back for Frank.

Moyes is a stubborn old get, who will always find a way to play his favourites, over the promising youngsters like Dibing and George, plus it`ll depend whether Jack Grealish has dried out after his latest bender, to decide who plays on that wing.

We still haven`t got a proper right back and the chances are, Merlin Rohl, who is a midfielder will be playing there, over Ashley Maitland- NIles and that`s a really weak area for us.

Despite beating the Geordie Horse Punchers in the cup last week, there quite a few who don`t like Moyes and the way his safety first style of footy, so an early goal to Cov, could make things very interesting with the crowd !

As the roads are all closed off, the coaches are parked about five mins walk away from the ground, on the main road that the ground is on.

There`s a few bars popped up facing the ground, which sell shite overpriced lager and some half decent food trucks on the plaza at the ground, that sell a variety of stuff.

There`s one proper pub - the Bramey Moor, which is about ten mins walk from the ground, as you walk back towards the city centre.

There`s a very nice hotel, The Titanic, which is about 15 mins walk away, which has a fantastic bar, but pricey. ( a lot of foreign players from both teams live there when they first arrive )

It`s one of those old industrial areas, where there used to be a pub on every corner and cafes everywhere, but fell on it`s arse as the docks died.

Home fans and away fans mix quite happily, I haven`t seen or heard about one bit of aggro and that includes dickheads like Newcastle !

The city centre has changed beyond belief and there`s as many tourists at the weekend, as there are locals.

If you need any recommendations on where to eat and drink, give me a shout, as you can almost spilt the city into six areas now :

The Georgian Quarter ( beautiful area around by the Anglican Cathedral, posh and relaxed )
The Baltic Triangle ( warehouse conversions, funky and cool )
Concert Square area ( where the youngsters go and lively )
Mathew Street area ( Beatles)
The Albert Dock ( refined and relaxing )
Dale Street area ( wonderful old city centre pubs )

Plus, there`s a mind boggling amount of places to eat now too !

I love it around Dale St, Liverpool has got plenty of cracking old corner pubs. Looking forward to a few grogs on Friday

The Ship and Mitre would be my pick, for it’s range of beer and lagers, Followed by the Railway Tavern for not only its beer, but the fact you can get a really nice home cooked meal for under a tenner !

Sometimes I think it benefits the team that played more recently as they often seem to start the game better, less misplaced passes, less rusty- we might have benefited from that ourselves against Notts Forest recently. Having said that, against small squads , I think it can work the other way on occasion... when we played Sheff Weds at Hillsborough last season that was off a 3 game week and some of their players looked dead before half time- in fact that pitch invasion after 10 minutes gave them a much needed breather!

I think Frank needs to look at whether Sakamoto or Torp play away, as last season there were away games they went missing in a bit. Mammothly tough call for Lampard but we have to play the tactics for the game not just automatically keep same team.
