But the problem now is we have a lying incompetent charlatan in charge during the biggest health crisis in a generation.

Having Boris and Trump as world leaders is bad enough at any time, never mind in times of crisis. Trump trying to buy exclusive access to vaccines just sums that piece of s**t up.

It's not an unfair observation about Corbyn. Personally, it'd be great if we could keep politics out of it.

Small hope though. And I do keep thinking that this is some kind of Greek Tragedy where the populists campaigning on a ticket of ignore the experts find their strategies destroyed because people... ignore the experts.

Like you say it was a case of lesser of two evils and for me the choice was Corbyn - because I utterly despise Boris and think he is totally unfit for any sort of senior government position, never mind Prime Minister. It absolutely baffles me how he is able to get away with such barefaced lies every time he opens his mouth.

I think the conclusion that can be drawn from the couple of articles just put on here is that nobody expected the impact to be as great as this and most of the continent- if not world- was caught unprepared. It doesn't help though when you parade experts out in front of the nation then undermine & contradict them 24 hours later while the PM hides away.

ps agree that communication needs to be clearer and more regular, which sounds like it’s happening with the planned daily briefings (as long as it doesn’t risk widespread panic - I still think most of the country are keeping relatively calm, it’s hopefully just a relatively small number of idiots behaviour and the media/social media that’s whipping up a frenzy)

Its not political to point out that Johnson & Hancock are letting the population down with the shambolic communication, thats just a fact.

It would be nice if this thread could go on without constant reference to how shit other countries are compared to us & bringing brexit of all things into it, I'd say its gone beyond that stuff now. But pointing out the failings of people who are failing is hardly "political". The people most vulnerable are mostly Johnson supporters, its arguably his main support base- so where is he now? Where was he until he realised he wasn't going to get away with doing his "hiding in the fridge" routine?

Agreed. It doesn't matter what Corbyn would do, it's no use saying Corbyn would do no better.

Maybe he would, maybe he wouldn't, who knows. The fact is Corbyn is not in charge so he is totally irrelevant.

The current government is not beyond scrutiny just because the opposition are useless. And so far just about everyone in the world thinks their response has not been good enough, so they need to be held to account.
