Not ashamed to say I deleted the app and so did the missus. We aren’t risking getting pinged and having to miss our own wedding, sorry.

You're not alone mate. A lot of people I know have done the same, myself included.

So ‘big science’ comes along with a potential solution to a long existing problem and you think the problem actually came first?

I will still wear a mask wherever I am asked to, got second jab yesterday and would get myself tested if I had symptoms. To me that is me doing what I reasonably can, not locking myself away for 10 days even if I give a negative PCR the next day

I don’t blame you. The fundamental truth is the app saves lives. Statistically as it festers for a bit if we walk around infecting others not realising we are positive all that will happen is the virus will take hold. Whitty has warned today is restrictions back in 5 weeks. Oh well I just wish johnson would be honest. 100000 infections a day means many people in close contact with the virus. Moaning about the app is madness. They both knew what would happen why not plan for it. That was my point

The app has also caused carnage in school these past few months and is closing businesses already from making staff isolate. At least allow the isolation to stop if they test negative?

That would require proper planning. No problem with testing after 3 days and if negative get back to normal for me. Why aren’t we? No point whinging at an app that is there to reduce infection and all that comes with that even if vaccinations have protected broad swathes of vulnerable adults

Positive cases are phoned and a list is taken of their close contacts who are then contacted and asked to self isolate

However with 100000 a day the perventage of people contacted will reduce dramatically

We had a lot of kids barred from coming back to school despite having a negative PCR. You tell me how that makes any sense, because I don’t see it. What really has playing by the rules got us this past 18 months, we are both at the point of saying sod it let’s put ourselves first in the window we’re allowed before Boris makes school hell for another year

OK so in reality.....

Do you really think somebody is going to sit and think about everybody they have seen in the past week or so and send all of their numbers over?

Not really at you but you are a member of society so it is as much at you as me.

The virus lies dormant for up to 7 days usually up to 3 in high percentages so if we can stop people mixing when positive and they don’t know jobs a goodun.
People far cleverer than me can explain the science and statistics but if we have 100000 infections a day and they are in close contact with 5 people each who don’t know they are you can see how quite easily taking away masks and social distancing we have a bloody problem

Like I say it shouldn’t be down to you and me and Nick to make this clear it should be sajid and Boris but they’ve given up I think

That’s exactly what happens Nick and has been for a long time during this. It’s why places like Singapore were able to use track and trace initially. I’m not saying it’s the one thing it’s all things and we know so much now we didn’t. I’m not even saying we shouldn’t just scrap it but I am saying level with us. 100000 infections a day is 2.5m a month. It’s 5 times that many close contacts and it’s gonna mean we should be cautiously optimistic and wear masks and socially distance for a while longer.

The whole point of isolation is ‘well what if you have it and don’t realise’. If I am telling you that we know beyond reasonable doubt that someone doesn’t have it why are we forcing them to stay inside knowing that they will have to miss education or work as a consequence? The PCR test we accept for entrants to the country but not back into society.

I don’t blame you for deleting the app although from my understanding if you get contacted by track and trace team it’s a legal requirement to self isolate however the app is advisory. I think this has been left intentionally ambiguous by gov/nhs but feel free to have a look into it

From my perspective if I get pinged then I’ll do some LFs and/or get PCR (if I’ve got any symptoms) to give peace of mind that I’m not passing it onto someone high risk if actually positive and if clear after a few days will carry on with life

Just googled to double check and found these

NHS contact-tracing app's self-isolation requests 'not legal requirement'

The Health Secretary has confused things on the day the app launched

Actual advice

What should I do if the self-isolation countdown on my NHS COVID-19 app is different from the advice I was given by the wider NHS Test and Trace or NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect service? · COVID-19 app support

Ps I don’t take any responsibility if people ignore app and get fined by the way !!! Just flagging what I read !

I agree with you!

That should be the plan. Isolate and take test after how ever many days the medics say is sensible and if negative get yourself back out

Like I said, in reality.

I can categorically tell you that really doesn't happen if people don't have the app.

If I play football tonight with a few of my mates who are self employed and next week it turns out I have COVID. Do you think I'm going to sit and list them all and make them lose 10 days pay? Yeah I'd tell them to go and get a test and make their own minds up.

As I said there's 2 different worlds. Some people are sat at home, maybe been on furlough or WFH for the past couple of years and will analyze graphs and worry about infection rates.

Others have had to work all the way through and business as usual as much as possible, else they don't eat.

Tough question that, if I was told to isolate on the eve of my wedding and had a negative LFT would I risk the fine? Hmmm

With modern farming techniques, and a global world there should be no shortages, it won't massively effect us due to our climate, once we see panic set in like we did with 2020 toilet rolls, it'll be a shit show, be prepared, is all I'm saying.

That's nothing to do with food shortages, worst thing to happen to SA was the ending of apartheid (not my words, btw).

I know you aren’t but sounds awfully patronising and if I’m honest a little removed from the seriousness of this.

Ive not been furloughed at all but I have worked from home however even in complete lockdown I was volunteering as an nhs responder.
Of course you wouldn’t list the 5 a side lot but would you ask people you lived with????

There’s degrees of risk and close contact is close contact not passing people in the street.

As I say those personally affected with friend or family deaths or serious illness see things differently to those that haven’t

Again, nothing to do with food shortages, SA has had a rise in tensions for years and this has pushed it over the edge.
