So by that logic SBT posters must wear masks going by what I’ve seen in the last couple of months

Baldy presumably has to wear one in his sleep

What risk reduction is there from wearing masks and is it negated when they are unwashed and stuffed in pockets before putting them on?

I will put one on if I sense people are uncomfortable, purely as I don’t want to make people uncomfortable

Don’t know, don’t care tbh at this stage, and I am not saying you should do the same, just your own personal values I guess.

Can you imagine any other scenario in which it would be acceptable for our government to ease restrictions which save lives? Johnson admitted some people will die as a result. The arguments for all safety measures are now weakened - fire regulations, speed limits - use your common sense!
I know we have to ease restrictions but the public still need reminders and clear guidance. For example, if you haven't had double vaccination we strongly advise continued use of face covering and avoidance of crowded indoor settings.

More effective than people tend to think, according to one study cited by the BMJ

Covid-19: Are cloth masks still effective? And other questions answered

In light of new, more transmissible variants of SARS-CoV-2, Elisabeth Mahase examines what kinds of mask the public should be wearing, and where they should be worn Early in the pandemic, major problems in the global supply of medical grade masks meant that the public was asked to avoid using...
www.bmj.com

Meanwhile, a preprint tested the effectiveness of different face masks and compared this with the perceptions of protection among 710 US residents.11 A TSI 8038+machine was used to test N95, surgical, and two fabric face masks on an individual 25 times each. The researchers reported that fabric face masks “blocked between 62.6% and 87.1% of fine particles, whereas surgical masks protected against an average of 78.2% of fine particles. N95 masks blocked 99.6% of fine particles.” But they said that survey respondents tended to “underestimate the effectiveness of masks, especially fabric masks.” The results indicated that “fabric masks may be a useful tool in the battle against the covid-19 pandemic and that increasing public awareness of the effectiveness of fabric masks may help in this endeavour,” the authors concluded.

What is certain is lots of workplaces will be on tenterhooks wondering what their paymasters decide happens now...

It's a bit of a cowardly decision to defer it to individuals and organisations really.

He won't be able to save lives anyway .
At whatever point we decide to open up , cases will rise , people will die and we will keep going on like this .

Would you be happy to wear masks forever , which still won't save all lives

The vaccine part I actually agree with, but we aren't far from that and there WILL be hundreds of thousands that refuse to have it anyway

And we can't force them

I have asked several times - are Italy sticking to the 4 week double jab science advice

Also didn’t the Italian government decide on some green card on vaccines and now backtracking?

You’ve asked once and I answered you - they moved them to 5 weeks for under 40s. I have my 2nd on 2nd August.
No they haven’t backtracked - the green pass was rolled out several weeks ago and officially on 1st July.

It’s an EU-wide scheme with most other countries only issuing it 15 days after 2 doses.
Italy issues it 15 days after the first dose, which is what they’re talking about changing.

Agree with the sentiment but guessing you’re mainly talking about younger adults who haven’t been double jabbed (a majority of which are also at significantly lower risk from Covid). Assuming restrictions are being removed on 19 July pubs and clubs will fully reopen, so after having their social lives curtailed for 16+ months can we realistically see many young adults avoiding both until mid September (whether the government advises them to or not) ?

No issue I’m just looking objectively - he lives in Italy. He was massively critical of extending the length of time between jabs which has worked incredibly well and is a key decision

Spain have extended I think to up to 16 weeks and I think Germany have increased as well

Yeah we will be back in instantly. I'm not bothered, but there's people on my team who are. Living with vulnerable people etc.
Same office. Do I adjust my life to make them feel at ease? (No is the answer if I'm being honest) Hopefully the business see a bit of sense and allow split office/home working like we have for the last few months.

But then also when, if ever, does it end.

A point made earlier that nobody seems to pick up on ..

Hundreds of thousands possibly millions will NEVER be vaccinated.

And we can't force them .

We will never get past the "just a little longer " phase

Now, as you well know, you miss context including governance systems, communication, travel, transmission, and global situations.

Anyway, have a read of various pandemics, it's all interesting stuff.
