Depends how long he’s been there. Probably not long and just under “don’t like your face”.

And the additional measures that cars and drivers have to pass through don’t result in zero risk of a crash, but there we are.

Never saw the big fuss over masks. They're a pain in the arse sometimes, but they seem to have made a difference, and it's rarely been a problem for me to put one on for a bit. Just glad I'm not in a country where you had to wear them outdoors, which was crazy.

Yeah we had to over here but it was supposed to only be when it was crowded but somehow ended up being at all times. Luckily it’s been binned off now due to the low levels of cases/increases in vaccinations.
Personally, I will continue to wear one on public transport, public buildings etc for a good while yet.

So isn't a free for all up the match now or will there still be restrictions?

Some of us will die every single year for many years to come from covid too.

Problem is if they don't lift them now , it won't happen until next spring as winter won't get any better mate

Amazing how people still wont look at the data for cases Florida and other states. That show you can live without masks and social distancing.

Then again people constantly share graphs showing our cases vs Europe. Without showing we test more than basicly all of Europe combined.

I’m listening to Starmer now and what he’s saying is actually sensible. Just slow down on a couple of things… keep masks on public transport, you can then open up things like outside stadia.

The biggest problem with the mask debate is that a fair chunk of the population still think wearing one is for their individual protection.

Mainly rising in the younger population though so is opening up now in the summer more of a gamble than opening up in the winter when there are more pressures on the NHS?

We all want restrictions gone, but if we just make some gradual, sensible adjustments for easy wins on things like this, whilst opening up of those businesses that have had to close and have had restrictions.

I guess now we’re gonna find out how respectful people are towards others, unfortunately I suspect the answer is “not very”, you can see that already on social media by the masses of people seeing this as a “victory”, planning to well and truly rub it in, as if there are sides

They can still be the infection that creates a variant and the more cases the more chances of new variants. so it is a very big risk

It doesn't need to be anything , if people want to wear a mask then wear one , if people don't then don't wear one..

Nobody is in the wrong

I won't be taking a mask out with me, so if somebody is uncomfortable with me not wearing one then il simply move to make them feel better

They are if they’re disrespectful. I’m in favour of opening but I won’t be taking the piss if I see someone is clearly nervous

That’s just Whittys demeanour I think. As he said it’s better to release restrictions now, during the summer and school holidays etc than later in the year when there’s more respiratory illness and NHS under more pressure (or alternatively we will not be fully unlocking at all this year).

Id imagine there is an element of herd immunity thinking behind these decisions but nobody wants to mention that phrase.

This isn't a binary choice. Could have retained certain measures a little longer, such as masks on public transport, table service only inside pubs. I support further unlocking but this is reckless and a repeat of mistakes made last summer, like Eat out to help out.

Was pretty noticeable, especially when the PM was stood next to him and only minutes ago had announce the removal of the very things Whitty said scientists agreed needed to remain in place. The masks thing is odd, polling shows people are massively in favour of keeping mask requirement and countries like Israel, who have previously removed the requirement, are bringing it back in.
Prof Whitty says these are decisions for ministers, not advisers, and there was a "really clear consensus" among scientists that some degree of social distancing would be need to be maintained even after restrictions are lifted in law.
Vallance also a noticeably different tone. Taking about cases rising and "spreading up the age groups", hospitalisations rising and deaths rising. Most worryingly he said he expects deaths to continue rising. Not sure how that all equates to the governments "nothing in the data" to suggest some measures need to remain.

Feels like deja vu, back to where we were 18 months ago. Government saying let it pass through everyone, economy over public health etc and the experts saying this is a really bad idea and will end up with a long lockdown later in the year. Hope that this time the government is right and the experts wrong but the track record would suggest otherwise.

On the bus or in the corner shop, no mask, someone opposite me wearing one and obviously a bit nervous. In that situation my mask is going on pronto- just basic decency.
