It took one day to close the border to South Africa after their govt announced it's new variant .
There were just 600 hundred detected cases between a day before Christmas and around the 5th of April.

I think it is bollox mate.

They whole banning flights thing has been something the government have been totally useless at on a consistent basis.

I remember in May/June last year we were still having 10+ flights coming in from China each day. It makes it even more of a mockery that there was no system in place, so those passengers could just freely walk into society. Meanwhile, we were all locked down and unable to go anywhere or do anything.

I know people who have had relatives sod off to Pakistan for 3 months and come back willy nilly too, with no respect for the rules. It is frustrating when chunks of those communities won't take the vaccine either. Bolton being a good example. Also generally anyone that cannot follow basic rules pisses me off. Everyone has to be on the same page.

In some areas of bolton 1 in 4 have refused the vaccine. Individual lock down of communities who refuse to behave responsibly may be an option

Another strong day for vaccinations takes us past 20 million second jabs, and 36.5 million first.

Thought I'd have a a look at the world situation today .
From what I'm seeing amid the great concern over the Indian situation it appears their critical/severe cases at 9000 is not far ahead of the US at 8000

If this is accurate then the pm will be in for some heat, the frustration will be off the scale I think.

Reporting that vaccination rates will be up to over 4 million a week, government sources thinking we might get everyone jabbed by end of June. Definitely seems a race of jabs vs cases

I'm still expected to get my vaccine before the start of August according to the calculator. Anyone think that this hurry to give the more vulnerable second doses will push mine back?

It’s been said it will have no impact due as we’ve used mostly AZ up to now and that isn’t being used for under 40s.

Most vaccine centres can meet the demand to do both. At no point has the one local to me ever opened more than two days a week so even if they double the number of doses to be administered per week it’s still easily doable.

Cases are continuing to decrease now the vaccine rollout has sped up - I think around 5K cases a day at the moment.

Albeit it has less capacity so there will no doubt be many would be critical cases unreported, especially in rural India

The weirdness of this whole situation is that I’ve just walked up Costa to get a coffee and I actually found it a bit surreal that there were tables open to sit in on. Will be interesting to see how this effects people for a long time to come.

I chose to sit outside as it’s actually a nice morning but still found it strange that my initial reaction is that sitting inside is strange.

Anyway, I’m sure Wetherspoons is already heaving!

The media have obviously played up the crisis at any moment they possibly can. It is in their interests. That's literally what the media does.

And yet I thought you were also accusing the media of burying the exact same story? Based on the fact you can mysteriously no longer find an article which you definitely, definitely read?
