Arsenal ratings

Why? A goalie dives the way he expects the ball to go , Odegaard mishit it and wrong footed him
It was hit with all the power of a shot by a 2 year old that's why. If Collins had let that it he'd rightly be given a lot of stuck. So why not Rushworth .

Spot on. Amenda excellent buy.
Lost game in midfield
The best midfield probably excludes Grimes. How long for Lampard to take the tough decision? Same applies to Frank the Tank, who after all, was in Brentford reserves. Yerenkyi, Hamer as the defensive two plus Rudoni in front might be worth a try

Badly need EMC back

Tough game to make your debut in but Yirenkyi was a real disappointment. Didn’t seem to have any positional discipline and tackling was bad. Not sure if he starts vs Hull.

Will need to get on it quick as he was lauded as a marquee signing, should start every week

Both would needed this time next year should the worst happen so would still keep hold of them

Really good point. Feels like a mid-late 90s post-match feeling.

Hopefully we don't leave it to Rushworth having a blinder in the last game of the season but we've got enough to keep us up.

I mean most of my time as a kid in the 80's watching last match survival escapades, being dicked by top teams is how it was

What are you talking about. Odegard completely mishit it which is exactly why it wrong footed rushworth. Freak goal.

To be fair if he caught it right it was probably going in anyway. Not really blaming that one on rushworth are we lol

Rushworth 5 - looked nervous, unlucky with the 3rd. There was another shot which he would have held onto last season which he spilled

MvE 4 - At fault for the first and should have been tighter on his man for the 2nd

Thomas 6 - Pretty solid and looked fairly composed

Amenda 5 - wondering if he could have done more for the 2nd? But pretty solid otherwise

Da Silva 6 - feared for him against Saka, but he did well

Tchaouna 6 - decent on the ball when he got it

Yirenkyi - 4 glad he got subbed as didn't want him to be sent off. Struggled to get into the game, but you don't want to be picking up bookings that early on

Grimes 4 - struggled to have any influence on the game. The next game will be key for him as to whether he can pick up from where he left off last season. The speed the likes of Ødegaard put him under pressure when he did have the ball will have been a real eye opener

Onyeka 5 - showed some decent moments, but largely overrun in midfield

BTA 5 - good effort, but struggled against world class defenders and midfield

Simms 7 - often isolated, very nearly won a penalty and mostly did what he could well when also massively isolated

Hamer, Torp, Rudoni and Awonyi, All 6. All looked more confident on the pitch. Torp may well be suited to the prem league. More protection from refs and technically he is one of the best in the team.

Positives: We have got this fixture out of the way with a scoreline no one will think twice about at the end of the season and we can look forwards to next Saturday. The scoreline could have been much worse if Arsenal had wanted

Negatives: Last season some of defensive frailties were obvious, not marking properly. Giving wide players too much space and giving the ball away in dangerous areas. However largely we weren't getting punished for it. It is of course different at this level and we need to learn quickly.

Rushworth looked like he was diving so early for everything like there was too much adrenaline running through him. I think that's what happened for the second goal and also there was one in the second half which he saved. Hard to fault him for the third except maybe he could have had a stronger wrist

Have you seen how difficult Hamer finds it to cover the ground at the minute? He makes Grimes look like Declan Rice.

Hamer cannot play as a CDM in the Premier league.

Rudi is a 10. Huge amount to prove that he can transition to an 8.

On the bright side, I thought Awoniyi looked a real handful when he came on. Won his physical battles with Mosquera and Gabriel.
Yeah but it's a thankless task.

Literally nobody near him or Simms so if they get it. Their job is to try and hold it for ages until somebody makes a run.

Then for some reason we didn't want to put it into the box

I was saying to some mates last night, getting Rudi in this team and keeping it solid is going to be a real challenge for Lampard. He’s currently one of our best and most valuable 2-3 players but I’m not sure how many teams we’d get away with playing three forwards and a 10 behind.

MvE's mistake took the early wind out of our sails - hopefully he will learn from it. I thought Bobby was our MoM, but him and Amenda looked quite confident, other than giving Odegaard too much space. JDS did well controlling Saka as well as he did.
Simms looked energetic and with a bit more ball control could be a real handful for defenders, but Tchouna showed his Prem experience.
I think Arsenal did back off a bit in the last half-hour, but my Arsenal mate reckons we'll be alright if we keep playing like that, and we gave them a better game than Man City.
Last season, Arsenal beat Leeds 5-0 in their opening game at home. They are champions for a reason.

I don’t think it was necessarily that our players were bad, but just the fact Arsenal were so good. They are on a high (just like we were when we smashed Wrexham) and there midfield is the strong point of their team.

It was obvious there would be a gulf between Championship Champions and Premier League Champions. Our only hope was Arsenal didn’t turn up, but they did and with the best version of themselves. The saving grace was they lost interest at 3-0 and went through the motions after that.

We dust ourselves down and move on. Most teams will get nothing at Arsenal.

I remember George Boateng's debut at Anfield... all over the place. Then going to Upton Park and getting sent off.

A week later he was at Anfield bossing it... give him time.

Not sure EMC is the answer, he improved a lot last season, and was very good in the Championship, but hes got a long long way to go to prove he is PL quality. All too often he fails to produce a ball into the box, preferring to stop and check back and play the easy ball backwards, this gives time for the defenders to get into position and mark our striker.

His work off the ball will need a huge improvement too if we arnt to get ripped apart down our left side. (Im not implying hes a poor player, just that we need more in the PL)

I think our interest in Mykhailo Mudryk would solve our Left wing issues if we can get him on loan and get him match fit.
He has the potential to be a great outlet for us, and would be a huge upgrade over EMC.

Rushworth did exactly the same as he did for the second goal for QPR’s second goal in Jan. a finger tip on that situation helps the attacking team more often than the defenders. I think that goes down as an error.

You don't play Arsenal every week.

Let's be honest, they're the reigning champions, they look like they've got a huge monkey off their back getting over the line last season and they've recruited well.

I'll be surprised if they don't win it again this season. Not many will come away from there with anything

I don't believe we gave them a better game than Man City. The match stats vs Man City were pretty even. Arsenal just took chances

Of the the 3 games I've seen Tchaouna the only time he's put a cross into the box is against Espanyol when he was on the left.

Don’t even think rating anyone is fair. And not in a bad way.

Literally different levels. And away from home. I feel like I’m a teenager again when we were last in the prem. We’ll be fine.

Totally agree, great post.

The speed in which they broke and swarmed up the pitch was breathtaking. Totally different levels.

And yet, despite that, i'm not worried. We don't have to beat the Arsenal's and the Man Citys, we have to beat the Hulls, the Fulhams, the Crystal Palaces.

We'll be fine.

Rushworth 5, looked nervous.

Back 4, 6 except MVE who gets a 5 for dithering on first goal.

Midfield all 5/6 for not knowing where they were one the pitch half the time. Tank was all over the show and new lad same, often in the same zone leaving gaps all over.

BTA isn’t a winger and Tuna on the wrong wing. Tats required right, Tuna left.

Two issues, set-up and mentality.

On the occasions they got the ball high up the pitch or wide, particularly first half, delayed the cross or incisive pass, passed back instead and were pressed into passing back to GK for a long kick and inevitable loss of possession.

Worrying.

Positives - big Amanda looks the part. Sims had a go.

Ellis Simms and Amenda really stood out for me. Simms was the most physical I have ever seen him. Amenda was just solid.

Simms limitations were exposed when he was replaced. He has zero pace. There’s no denying effort but if he’s first choice forward it’s a swift return to the championship

Multiple players had multiple chances to get the cross in.

Simms and then T were pointing and wanted to make the run, instead we just wanted to turn back.

To be fair, he turned Gabriel inside out and had the legs on him.

Yeah it was different when we made the change and a bit more "run at them" but even then it seemed a bit pointless unless the striker was going to beat 3 defenders and put it top corner.

Ratings against the champions away first game up shouldn’t really be rated. Thought our CH’s did well. Everyone else was on a steep learning curve. Agree with what was said earlier - in this league you don’t have the luxury of endless recycling. When you get the chance to cross you’ve got to put the cross in

Amenda and Thomas did well. I think the no wrestling from corners helped.

Amenda was pinging some great diagonal passes as well.
Agreed of the starters, Simms, Amenda and Thomas stood out.
