Thomas immense, Rudi and Pinnock not far behind. The shift everyone put in was what's required every week if we're going to stay up.

I questioned the line up pre kick off too, thought dropping Onyeka was a mistake and at 2-1 said I'd gave brought him on for a striker. Shows I know fek all, but I guess most of uou knew thst already! :)

Totally agree, especially 5 for Grimes is ridiculous. His positional play tonight was excellent, he hardly gave the ball away, he organises, and 2nd half he cut out a really dangerous ball in our box through his reading of the game. It seems some of our fans just have to have a scapegoat.

Spot on. Some fans really just dont seem to get certain roles in football. Something like 88% passing success, kept the ball moving. plugged the gaps like last season and think it was three clearances. Hes struggled at times this season and just not looked quite right. Thought he was back to his best tonight with Yirenkyi next to him and almost in a slightly more advanced role at times.

Will watch game back on tv but would be shocked if it changes view

Everyone deserves min 7 tonight, proper team performance

Way too much nitpicking on here for me , if anyone had said at 8pm tonight we win 4-1 then I’d have called them an eternal optimist
Thomas is improving so fast and could easily be in an England squad before to long , DaSilva again looks comfortable at this level , Rudi showing he’s ready for this level . And as for our younger players Cherif , Yerenkyi and Mfuni just wow

Rushworth - 8 fumbled one cross but his distribution is a real attacking threat for us
MvE - 7.5 close to his best tonight , competitive and positive in his defending and attacking
Pinnock - 8 no way is he past it , adds composure and experience to the back line
Thomas - 9.5 one mistake first half costs him a 10 but what a performance tonight easily MOM
DaSilva - 8.5 this seasons mr.consistent
Grimes - 7.5 in possession very good tonight, worry about his pace defensively
Yerenkyi - 8 very raw but he has so much potential , covers the ground so easily and looks forwards at every opportunity
Rudoni - 9 made for this level , absolute quality
BTA - 7 frustrates but his work rate is exemplary
EMC - 7 thought he grew in to the game , obviously needs to improve but he started slowly at Championship level . Frank clearly rates him
Cherif - 8 great goal , great work rate , made some bad decisions but for a 19 year old he had a great game

Onyeka - 7.5 added energy whe it was needed
Torp - 7.5 same as FTT
Sakamoto - 8 added energy and attacking threat
Simms - 8.5 great goal , caused issues for a tiring defence
Mfuni - 8.5 this kid is special , what a goal
Really get the same vibes around Thomas.

would completely agree other than not JDS’ best game, outpaced a few times but still very much consistent, and also Tats battled very well but I fear he’s not strong enough / too lightweight sometimes and he almost gave away a penalty / goal if not for an offside call, but still arguably his attacking threat and ability to win free kicks outweighs the defensive frailty

all in all a performance to show we can compete at this level, so no excuses now! and we still have a few to come back from injury too..

Rudoni 8 classy
Cherif 7 promising

Unfair on Grimes that, best game for us so far in the top flight for me. Him and Yirenkyi wont that midfield battle by a mile

Because it wasn't a superb overall team performance. It was a mixture of individual brilliance and some solid centre backs but certain players were below the required standard, we just weren't punished by Newcastle. Look at the match stats!
Some players also really stepped up and chances were taken by us

You do know we are in the premier league dont you?

Against almost all sides we will have the worst of the 2 sets of match stats. Thats literally going to happen all the time. Fuck me I genuinely wonder why some people follow football when they're so backwards

Yirenki backed off and gave them too much room for their strike. I was screaming at my telly for him to close him down but he seemed to take a step the wrong way and let him move into shooting range. Id def start with Saks against Spurs. He will earn us free kicks around the box and covers better than emc.
Sakamoto disappears up his own arse away from home. Lampard used him perfectly last night, bring him on for the last 20 or 30 minutes against tired legs and let him run at the defenders, he stops their LB from getting forward and gives us a pacy outlet.

MVE 7- done well against 2 England internationals
Thomas 9.5- immense
Pinnock 8.5- nothing fancy but didn’t put a foot wrong
Dasilva 7
Yirenkyi 6 - ball got away from him a few times, still adjusting to the PL pace
Grimes 7.5 - really intelligent performance
Rudoni 9- wanted the ball all
The time , looked every bit a premier league level player
EMC 6 - still think he is capable at this level, maybe time to give Gboho a go?
Cherif 8 - battled well against their 2 cb, could’ve had a hatrick. Getting the chances which is a good sign.
BTA 7- work horse out of possession can see how he’s in the team but sometimes holds on to it for too long in possession.

Frank 10 - was worried about newcastles fire power on the bench but it was our subs that made the difference, brave calls and they paid off.

So he dropped 1 ball and conceded a worldie and that warrants a 5. Not for me.

I'm surprised we have so many down on players and there was way too much criticism during the match while we were actually winning for me. I doubt we'll have a game all season where we don't look ropey for part of it at least. We've started picking up points and look ready for the fight, everyone should be delighted, for the moment anyway.

All are playing within the structure and it helps performance as a group an individual.

Thomas, Rudoni outstanding.
Grimes, Pinnock just old heads make it look simple.
JDS is definitely not being targeted, he is so much better and playing the best he has at the club.
BTA, Caleb bring energy not always get it right but work within the structure well.
Cherif showed fans tonight he will be a good addition.
Tatsu did well works his bollocks off.

EMC is struggling to get up to pace, he will get there.
Once he manages to untangle his legs and learns the offside trap, not much hope on the 2nd bit though!

Agreed. We aren’t going to dominate. Players will make mistakes. If you flip it round there were established PL performers in the newcastle side who were awful. It happens. The criticism for BTA was really odd. Out of position again but worked hard and was involved in 3 of the goals. We do get down on our players too much

That simple cross he dropped would have been an absolute howler had it gone in (which it easily could have). Also felt he should have come for a cross early in the first half. Beaten at his near post for their goal, although it was hit with such power I am not sure any keeper could have done anything.
BUT it didn't go in and he collected it after, a little harsh on a monumental night

I can see why BTA is annoying to watch at times because he annoys me too. He can really struggle with absolute basics but he's also explosive and, as I said at the time, that third goal we score sums up why Frank likes him. The effort to win that ball from Joelinton after the amount of work he'd already been through at that point was something else.
I'm sure he'll continue to frustrate at times but fair play to him, you can tell he really wants to be at this level and is working hard.

Just read the match report in the Guardian, described BTA as 'the excellent Thomas Asante', which surprised me, though his work is outstanding his quality on the ball often falls short but on balance he deserves his place

Really not his fault him and Grimes were both knackered. Was screaming for about 10 mins before that to get Onyeka on!

My only negative was why the f! Does Lampard wait an age ti make the substitutions required!.

To keep hude Mfuni on bench and keep Asante on was baffling.

We have an incredibly strong bench he has to use it earlier.

Got out of jail.

Last night he was quality imo and vital to the win. Same goes for yirenki. Not sure how anyone could rate them below a 7 last night

I think he's technically very good, it's just his decision making that's not as good.

Forest and yesterday are what our season needs to be about - work rate and taking chances (mainly on the break). Lampard has been saying it since day 1 - We're often not going to have the better of "stats" so have to be organized, work hard and take chances when they come. We're probably going to struggle most against any teams that keep it tight and don't have a go at us.

So people aren't allowed to have a different opinion to you on here without you calling them "backwards"?

It's utter bollocks though isnt it?

Tell me, aside from Ipswich and Hull, who do you think in this league we should have the better stats against?

I bet you cant

Rushworth didn't really have much to do, mainly because their shooting was so terrible.
MVE one of his better games.
Da Silva a quiet game, got skinned a few times.
Thomas fantastic
Pinnock solid
Yirenkyi a good spoiling player, lost the ball in bad positions a few times
Grimes. Better second half but we need more from him than just being a spoiler. We need someone centre midfield to control the ball and pass it forward, spread it wide.
BTA a nuisance
EMC quiet but didn't get much ball.
Cherif Will be interesting to see how be develops and what his real strengths are.
Rudi showed some real class.

Still think we need more from centre midfield in terms of controlling the ball and moving it forward.

Was Tchaouna injured or just out of favour as he didn't even make the bench last night. Interesting comments from FL post match too about how every player needs to give 110% in training and ready to go, I think he said most are, some aren't. Was he referring to him possibly?

Not really. I think there are 8-10 teams in the league we should be aspiring to be competitive in all aspects of the game. Whether we are better with the minority of possession is another debate though
