Newcastle Player Ratings (1 Viewer)

All are playing within the structure and it helps performance as a group an individual.

Thomas, Rudoni outstanding.
Grimes, Pinnock just old heads make it look simple.
JDS is definitely not being targeted, he is so much better and playing the best he has at the club.
BTA, Caleb bring energy not always get it right but work within the structure well.
Cherif showed fans tonight he will be a good addition.
Tatsu did well works his bollocks off.

EMC is struggling to get up to pace, he will get there.
I would have given Yrenki a solid 7.5. Broke up play. Was everywhere, just looked tired towards the end which you would expect

But we should have beaten Hull and Got at least a point from Man City

It evens itself out
That transpires into player ratings. Give players credit where they have had a good game individually but not got the result, conversely be objective about where certain individuals weren't at their best, despite a 4-1 win

Really not his fault him and Grimes were both knackered. Was screaming for about 10 mins before that to get Onyeka on!

My only negative was why the f! Does Lampard wait an age ti make the substitutions required!.

To keep hude Mfuni on bench and keep Asante on was baffling.

We have an incredibly strong bench he has to use it earlier.

Got out of jail.

BTA can be a frustrating enigma at times but he finished the game very well, he continued to track back brilliantly and won his fair share in the air which he seems to have massively improved on. Also rattled the post?

Justified Lampard’s decision to keep him on. Also think he was probably worried Gboho couldn’t do the defensive shift

There was a point in the first half where we were under the cosh a bit, BTA gets the ball and waits for the touch and buys a free kick, it completely slowed Newcastle down. That side of his game is very good and he is also fit and such a positive influence on the rest of the team too. For every BTA you need a Rudoni of course!

It was great to see Sakamoto come on and really make a difference, the run for the Simms goal was brilliant (I though he might have been fouled). He works so hard and deserves a crack at this league, even if just for the last 20 to stretch games. It's amazing to see how many of last year's team are playing and performing against teams like Newcastle who have spent a lot of money and have a lot of very decent players.

He got a lot of unfair stick after the Hull game. Lampard says it all about him in the interview that he accepts if he’s not starting but wants to make an impact if he gets a chance to play. You need players like him around the squad.

Totally agree. People writing off a player after 1 game in the Premier League is so over the top. He wasn't even that bad against Hull. We know what he offers and I think he will have an impact where needed and if he's happy with that role it works well.

He looked visibly upset after Hull scored, it was brilliant to see him get stuck in last night and give England's left back a tough time.

Agree. He's looked nervous this season and doesn't have as much space as he would often have in the Championship but he will just battle all game.
Still seems to have that almost telepathic partnership with Van Ewijk on the right hand side too.

This is the thing. It's having the right cogs to make the machine work.

MvE not getting many mentions but very good last night. A rough start to the season for him but hopefully he can kick on from that performance.
He got better as the game went on..was very tentative earlier. Plays so much better with Sakamoto on the pitch. Looks lost when Asante is in front of him.

Just chatting to my Newcastle supporting colleague who was at the game last night. He felt that Sakamoto changed the game, they were well on top, but his work rate stopped Lewis Hall get forward, and he gave everyone a lift and a spark going forward. He couldn't believe he wasn't a starter.

He said that Newcastle deserved their hammering.

I was speaking to my friend who supports Millwall and he was saying similar. He remembered him totally destroying them last season and was amazed, having watched last night, that he isn't a regular starter. He described him as a magician who never stops running.

Some signs last night that Grimes and Yirenkyi will be a good pairing in midfield. Think they compliment each other quite well. Hope they start the next few games together.

I think they did better as Newcastles midfield was far from athletic until Joelinton came on

Against Bergval and tonali they have a chance of doing alright again

There was so much good and so much progression at an individual level, while Newcastle were so poor compared to recent seasons, that it’s hard to rate the performances objectively.

Rushworth’s strength is being in the right place at the right time. Several decent shots straight into his midriff. I think it was his best performance in the Prem. Everyone talks about Thomas saving another off the line but Rushworth forced that wispy moustache around him and wide, instead of being able to slot it in a corner.

Milan looked like missing the Forest win hurt. Still not at the level he can perform to but a solid 7 will do him the world of good. He’s behind the rest in believing he belongs at this level but us the talent to get there.

Bobby, Pinnock and Dasilva are already at the level.

Grimes best performance by a mile with the ball because Newcastle were so bad out of possession that for the first time this season he had time to pass forwards. Without the ball he is just too slow, chasing shadows, clipping ankles.

Yirenkyi needs nurturing. And there’s no one with better experience than Lampard to do that. He’s a baby though. And doing insanely good stuff before giving the ball away in a dangerous place. Time in the PL pitch is all he needs. And Onyeka next to him, not Grimes. But the last bit is my own gripe.

Rudoni was the twice the player at 10 than out wide. Looked fit, sharp, confident and let’s hope his nan gets well soon!

Cherif reminds me of a mini Lukaku.not quite the same beast level. But gonna be a guy that does 2 incredible things and 2 dire things (see his goal and his terrible miss) and at the level we are at, we need to love him for that like Everton loved Lukaku.

EMC needs to shed 5kg ish. Way too top heavy for PL football. Not got the agility that a wide man needs to get by his man.

Actually thought BTA did well. Kept it simple compared to recent performances, has the best no back lift shot I’ve seen for some time.

The subs all made a big impact. Thought central midfield needed changing 10 mins earlier than it was. Surprised at the overall praise for Saka too. As enterprising as he was in possession, he was clumsy defensively and lucky not to concede a penalty.

Overall though. Back to back wins and 4-1 at home? Easy game. And last 2 matches we have set the minimum tone for desire and work rate

I thought it was exactly the right performance we need to see from all of them apart from EMC. Ok it is not perfect viewing but that doesn't matter, we did the job and we got the result.
I especially thought Grimes BTA and Saka deserved recognition because they have struggled previously but last night looked the part. Unfortunately EMC still looks like a rabbit in the headlights. I hope he comes good soon.

BTA was awful dribbles in circles then losses it,gives his man far to much space and doesn't track back many times in the Newcastle game he stood and watched players run past him and still stood watching.Needs to be far more alert.Clark was piss poor think he is struggling and hasn't had any impact in any game so far.But great win hopefully gives us confidence.

Rushworth - 6 - Couldn't do anything about the goal, otherwise ok barring the slip with the cross.
MvE - 5.5 - Bit surprised how many are praising him, thought first half him/BTA were both positionally pretty awful and Hall/Barnes had loads of space. Got better second half.
Thomas - 9 - Class
Pinnock - 9 - Class
Dasilva - 7 - Solid
Yirenkyi - 7.5 - Broke up play well, once he's fully up to the speed of the league he'll be a top tier CM.
Grimes - 7 - Excellent for the majority, thought Torp could've come on a bit earlier as he was looking leggy around 70 mins but that's not his fault.
BTA - 6 - works hard but if we're gonna play on the counter, we need more quality than what he offers. Do want to see Gboho at some point.
Rudono - 8 - Been one of his bigger critics on here but he was great today.
EMC - 5 - Needs to show more composure, feels like everything is hurried when he's on the ball. Will come good.
Cherif - 8.5 - Considering his age and the fact he was having to deal with two very good CBs, thought he was excellent.

Subs:
Tats - 7 - good energy and press, also enjoyed the learning from Hull where it looked like Newcastle were gonna break and he tried to chop someone - didn't work but he's learnt!
Simms - 7 - Scored, worked hard, nice option off the bench.
Onyeka - 6 - solid
Torp - 6 - solid
Mfuni - 10 - For shushing the Newcastle fans - sign the contract big boy.

Wow!!
Mve had his best game for us in the pl
The issue in the first half was the lack of tracking by Bta and Newcastle kept moving 3 out there
Maybe he should have said come on guys to yirenki and Bta but 3 v 1 was never gonna go well
