Match Thread Coventry City vs Sunderland (H) - Coventry Building Society Arena - Sat 31st October (3pm KO) (6 Viewers)

I actually like a free jazz team selection

remember a rampant leeds away, JDS on the left wing and lati as a holding midfielder

somehow got a draw out of that one

No issues with 5 at back. It can still be attacking if we want that

I like lati and he's proven haters wrong before. But it is a small concern but Thomas is injured so not much we can do than hope he does well

Hates a very strong word. I f**king hate Newcastle, for example. But i don’t hate Coventry at all.

It’s a “rivalry” that’s never existed prior to the social media age

It's going to be so funny when it's the same XI as the last two games except for Mfuni replacing Thomas lol

Mindset is biggest issue.

Back 3/4/5 whatever it doesn’t matter - it’s being brave, taking on the pass, taking on our man.

I love grimes, but he had to come out, if only to see what it’s like.

Certainly can. No need for the DM to drop back to make a three, or arguably even to play an outright DM. Midfield then further up the pitch etc. Formation change not an issue for me, and a lot of what I’m reading is harsh on Lati. Not sure what KKH has done to be seen as saviour when Lati is written off. Anyone brought in obviously deserves a chance today.

If true it's a big step up for Lati, but he can do a job in a three, and we don't know how Mfuni would fare in a back 4, not ideal with two left footers as well.

Will be intrigued to see how we do without Grimes if he's missing out. Some much needed extra athleticism at least.

The priority for me was getting an extra body in midfield. If these rumours are true that should do that. Let’s play the game first - before we give up the three points FFS!

Would be bizarre to play a back 4 away at spurs when Thomas, Pinnock and Mfini were available for a 5 and then choose to v Sunderland at home when Thomas out and Lati in.

Extra body in midfielder could’ve been done by having Rudi in a wide position and drifting in

Will await final team before passing judgment though

Probably better to wait until after the game to pass judgement

Maybe he wanted to give the 4 a fair crack of the whip but the penny's finally dropped.
Though after Forest I was surprised we didnt use it against Spurs, though I expect today's configuration to be slightly different than it was against Forest

I’d argue that playing a back 4 against hull and Fulham wasn’t the issue though, it was more the creativity, intent and bravery of our players, in particular the forwards. Agree with the idea we need another man in midfield and team needed tweaking but I’d personally rather find another solution than 5ATB at home against a team that’s bottom of the league.

Having said that, to be honest i dont give a toss how we do it as long as we win and if Lampard and coaches think 5ATB Is the way to go, so be it. Could definitely do with an early goal to calm the nerves/crowd whoever’s picked !

I agree about the bravery but I think the issue is the midfield. We havent been quick enough getting the ball forward.
We dont need Matty Grimes to conduct two laps of the horseshoe to nowhere before getting it forward, lets do it quicker and not be scared to lose possession.

I doubt they'll be a game this season where we dominate midfield so let's be set up to make sure the opposition dont either.

When we have got it forward the wide men have been too focused on lofting high balls into the box, which isnt a very fruitful pursuit in the current EPL. We need more variety and players ariving on the edge of the 6 and 18 yard boxes for cut backs. Noticed a lot of goals being scored this way.

SBT: We need to make changes!
*changes are rumoured*
SBT: might as well accept defeat now

Quite sure that some people just like moaning and aren't happy unless they've got something to moan about.

We've seen time and time again people lose their shit on here when the team is announced, only to end up with 3 points.
