Villa Player Ratings

Apart from his surging run down the right but led to nothing of a threat and one press that looked promising.

Yeah feel like he's often looked promising getting it down on the floor and running at the defence.
Don't think Cherif offered much more tbf, both quite isolated

Torp good.
Impressed with what I saw of Mfuni. Hung on to the ball a bit long a couple of times, but he's willing to take on a man.
Hamer looked okay in parts.

Sakamoto not great, but I suspect that's partially lack of game time.
I like Simms, but he looked way off the pace.
I think Saka suffered most from not having Milan overlapping and underlapping with him and he doesnt have the pace to simply run the defender. Lati was never going to do that role and it made us too predictable down that side.

Couldn't figure out why Hamer was playing so far forward. He's much better driving from deeper positions. He was almost up front a lot of the time, getting the ball with no one ahead of him. That's not his game at all

Yeah I noticed Tchouna also ofteb had a lot of space on that side and the ball never came to him or was too slow

The ball he played down the left was sublime. The flick Ellis didn't read, the 3 great passes through the middle, the tracking back to defend in the 2nd half. Yeah, atrocious.
I remember the tracking back in the 2nd half but remember none of the other things you mentioned. Can you remind of the sublime ball down the left.
He just doesn't fit in to any of our formations whether it be 532, 442, 4222.
Many people are blinkered of Gus, from his last season. He had 2 pretty average seasons before that, and his fitness wasn't great then. How many times did he get booked for ankle taps when the man got away from him because he wasn't fit enough to run back with them? Also, remember how many games he missed through suspension.

He’s never been the same after the injury, he just doesn’t get at players anymore.

Also, how good is Villas keeper? Their number 1 Suzuki who played 2nd half? We didn't really test him with saves, but his distribution was next level. Never seem a keeper play out like that with so much accuracy.

Agree but….put under no pressure with his distribution and not tested as a keeper.

Did I upset your feelings when you slagged off Hamer earlier? If you cant see what he brings then football isnt for you. You'd rather be lazy and keep calling him fat than watch what's in front of you.
I would put good money on you being from South Warwickshire and that you’ve met Hamer personally a few times.

Am I wrong?

Just because I dont keep labelling him fat? Your opinion is a joke. And I'll bet anything that your fatter than him.

Thought the same. No power needed, and it would find a Villa player in the middle of the pitch

Take it how you ficking like tbh. You're just a bit of a c**t.
Because I’ve called an out of shape player out of shape?

I’ve not levelled any insults at you so you aiming them at me just confirms to me that your personal relationship with a player has clouded your judgement.

Stick me on block if I’m so bad.

Bentley 5

Distribution woeful. Let in 3. Feel sorry for Wilson.

Lati 4

He’s not a rb. Out of position all the time.

Thomas and Amenda 6

Mfuni 4

Wasn’t impressed

Hamer 5

Didn’t get a hold on the game

Torp 7

Great goal. Some lovely passes. Didn’t press enough.

Ghanaian Lad 7

Looked ok

Tats 5

Anonymous

Gnobo 6

Useful but finding his feet.

CF 6

Same.

I have no personal relationship and hes not out of shape. Do you honestly think Lampard would put up with it if he was? Can 100% guarantee hes fitter and slimmer than you your constant lazy jibes are boring and unnecessary. If you think he has a bad game thats fine, but to keep on about his weight and kebabs and labelling him a mascot is not the attribute of a fan that youre supposed to be.

Ok I withdraw my comment on you having a personal relationship.

he is out of shape though. His off the ball movement is terrible, he does a lot of negative running to look like he’s in position while putting no pressure on ball carriers or runners.

Lampard isn’t the only person involved in transfers. I suspect this is much more a Doug signing because 1. King wanted the last laugh after losing him in his first summer as owner and 2. He knew he was well liked by fans.

Lampard has trusted him with 9% of our league minutes so far. Either he’s not good enough or he’s not fit enough.

Bentley - 5, not at fault for the goals, but his distribution was terrible
Lati - 5, almost gifted them a goal after 2 mins. After that he was ok
Thomas - 4, at fault for the first goal, completely asleep ball watching. Has to back himself to score with the goal glaring at him
Amenda - N/A
Pinnock - 5, ok but culpable collectively in defence for the shambles defending from corners
Mfuni - 5.5, good to see someone comfortable on the ball, but almost gifted them another goal through giving it away
Torp - 7, superb strike and much quicker than Grimes both in terms of pace and feet. He is premier league quality
Hamer - 6, thought he was good in the first half, quick feet and part of the attacking threat we were offering
Yirenkyi 7, covers ground very easily, is a general all round pain in the arse for the opposition. Has to be one of the first names on the team sheet going forwards, although I fear his first sending off can't be too far away
Gboho, 6.5 impressed with him, looks powerful and pacey in addition to having good technical ability
Sakamoto, 2 genuinely the worst game I have seen him play for us. I am not sure what is up with him. He's lost all self belief, just take someone on, you might just like the result. Definitely needs someone at the club to help restore some self belief into him
Cherif, 5. Ran about a lot, plenty of effort, bad decision making at times, needs a cooler head

Really worried about the lack of leadership in the team after 60 minutes tonight, no drive, hard to see how we are going to get a win currently. The defence is the big concern for me, the writing was on the wall last season, many basic errors, masked by poor finishing from the opposition and goals up front from us. The corners were particularly infuriating. It was the sort of repeated errors on corners you would yell and a junior team for. They were just failing to mark players every time.

The definition of insanity is not changing anything and expecting a different result, well that was our defending tonight, particularly from corners. It was painful to watch.

Lampard has totally got it wrong with Hamer ans Eccles last season...they are not no.10s. They are no.6s.

Torp be great if football allowed a quarterback style where we could bring him on for free kicks.

Too slow in mind and body to play in the Premier, gave the ball away so many times ( though not on his own there).

Can't see the good ratings for him myself.
Torp is a shinning light and must be a regular starter.. not slow at all.. when on the ball he's always looking around for the right pass and usually finds it. Let's hope FL sees it that way.

Bentley 5 looks poor
Lat 5 rb not his position
Thomas 5 his fault for 1 st goal and why on earth didn’t he shoot when clean through at 1-1
Amenda 5
Mfuni 8 looks absolute class - got carried away once at got caught but otherwise brilliant
Torp 7 great free kick and ok on ball but defensively not athletic enough
Hamer 6 was asked to play to high up
Yirenki 6 looks lost positionally
Tats 4 way off it
Gboho 5 first half was terrible gave the ball away so many times
Cherif 5 something there attribute wise but way off being our hope to keep us up

Loum - poor but for price even worse

It felt like the rest of the team had given up when Simms came on, he had to feed off scraps.
To be fair I was underwhelmed too when he came on, he wasn't really good enough in the championship although somehow he flatters to deceive and scored goals and he has gotten better since Frank arrived, heres hoping he gets a lot lot better in the prem but I'm not holding my breath

Bentley 5 didnt have a chance with the goals but similarly doesnt exude confidence
Lati 3, woeful
Thomas 4, poor by his standards
Pinnock 5,
Mfuni 7, impressive in a sea of defensive mediocrity
Torp 7, faded but played with more incisiveness and speed of thought than others this season
Yirencki 7, good energy levels and physicality
Hamer 3, non existent
Gboho 5, glimpses but lacking familiarity
Cherif 5, again seems to have the physicality and more mobility than other CF options but as above, lacks familiarity
Sakamoto 3, tonight showed again he is simply not at the level
Mfuni was decent but not a 7 for me due to him not being arsed to stop Abraham for third goal which is one of the worst I have seen city concede in a long time

The reality is we are supposed to believe the Sheff U training regime is poor and use that as a reason for his lack of fitness.

This is not a debate on relative abilities but you'd know O Hare would immediately be able to play 90 minutes for his new club and has fully trained.

Hamer doesn't seem to have the same levels of commitment to his profession - he should be at the peak of his career and has been sold for a bargain basement fee to the only club at this level who would look at him.

Nobody has said he's not fit. That's your opinion. Lampard wouldn't accept if he wasn't. He's always looked like that and peopel naturally have different body shapes. HE did plenty in the second hgalf to suggest that he is fit enough, but that doesn't suit the lazy online SBT narrative.

Totally disagree about the 2nd half, looked knackered after an hour if not sooner.
I do think he showed glimpses in the first half of what he can offer, which is why I get so frustrated with him because nobody will ever convince me he takes looking after himself like a professional athlete seriously

I should add that I don't think there's much wrong with Hamer's fitness or ability, but he needs a lot more movement and tempo around him to make some sort of difference...

Clearly Frank was looking at Torp in the Grimes role. He did well, and has earnt a start at Forest. As has Yierenkyi who brings that bustling energy which we'll definately need at Forest. We were so disjointed last night, and even during our good period in the 1st half, that was down to the players changing to the high press, which they could only keep up for 15-20 mins. Taking advantage of deflections, and loose balls. We didn't cut through them with decent play. If MVE is out for 6 weeks (as has been rumoured) then PLEASE do not consider Lati at RB. I'd be ok with Lati as a CB in a 3 if we have injuries, but never a RB.

'd be ok with Lati as a CB in a 3
