Part of the problem to me so far is the players do not really feel comfortable in what they are being asked to do positionally. To me we need to play 4-2-3-1 and Lampard understand the players natural postions which i think is as follows using the old skool 1-11 format:
1. Gk Rushworth Wilson Bentley
2. RB MVE KKH
3. LB Da Silva Mfuni
4. LCB pinnock Latabadieure Mfuni
5. RCB Thomas Amenda Woolfeden
6. DM Grimes Eccles Hamer
8. BBM Onyeka Torp Yirenkyi
10. AM Rudoni Ghobo BTA
7. RW Sakamoto Tchounma
11. LW EMC Ghobo
9. ST Wright Simms Anowini Cherif

not registering Bidwell waa a mistake as we are short with natural LBs as i think Mfuni is more a LCB naturally and i dont see what Woolfeden offers us so Bidwell could have had been registered in his place.

Letting Kitching the vice captain seems a huge mistake given his replacement was Pinnock whose legs are evidently gone. He doesnt look like a leader at all on the pitch. Amenda doesnt look comfortable at LCB . As good as Mfuni one day is likely to be, at 18 years of age asking him to be a stalwart of a relegation battling side is too much of an ask. No way he will cope At this level playing week in week out so young but Pinnock clearly isnt good enough anymore , he is miles off it.

In light of the above its obvious where the major issue is, and its the defence. No idea of how realistic Tomori or Mings would have been but if there was even a hint they may come here we should have done whatever it took to get one of them here.

We havent recruited for 5ATB or 3-4-2-1 so if we start seeing that formation used regularly we are FUBAR.

Pinnock will be in a wheelchair in 3 years. What on earth possessed us to give him a 3 year contract, total lunacy. Having said that, I actually thought he was better than Thomas last night who was very poor and showed absolutely no leadership skills at all.

Don't worry about Pinnock. He keeps us up, we move him on job done.
We go down, he's probably okay for the championship as a squad experienced player

The defending for the 1st goal from Thomas was appalling, he doesn't know where he was positionally, and when the striker runs through he didn't even chase back instead he decided to stick his hand up in the air for offside despite clearly being on.

so u think Woolfeden was betrer to register? What happens if Da Silva gets injured? U think Mfuni can play week in week out at LB? Give your head a wobble

Yes Mfuni would play week in week out there.

Bidwell was finished for us last year let alone this year

Mfuni isnt a LB. That was obvious last night. He is potentially a world class CB, the raw tools are there. If Da Silva is injured for a period of time we are absolutely fucked. At least Bidwell is natural at LB and has leadership skills. Obviously we shoukd have bought in a quality 1st choice LB and it is total negligence and incompetence we havent and i just cannt understand why we have neglected LB to the extent we have. Da Silva as 1st choice is not the answer either but we are where we are now..praying he stays fit

Mfuni looked miles better than Da Silva so I dont really get it.

Bidwell can barely move anymore.

I agree about us not buying a proper LB

I agree that Mfuni looked good, but he also had the kind of switch off moments you’d expect from a teenager playing at this level.

Getting caught on the ball around his own box over complicating things, and not picking up Abraham/ball watching for their 3rd was criminal. I worry a bright prospect who’s very inexperienced will be bad for both him and this side.

Mfuni looked by far a better LB last night than Bidwell.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see him take Dasilva's place before too long, despite Dasilva being one of our better players so far.

Mfuni clearly is going to be a fantastic player. But he isnt going to be able to play LB regularly at PL level as its not natural to him. He got forward alot but not once looked to cross the ball in. To me he looks a natural CB and from what ive seen of Pinnock we may have no choice but to play him at CB which is not ideal for a player so young.
He was a good signing as cover amd somwone we could bring into the team occasionally but if we are going to rely on him as 1st choice at 18 we are in massive trouble. He is bound to have a period where he is mentally exhausted as that usually is the case with players that young
Im not saying Bidwell is PL level btw, simply that due to the negligent recruitment he needed registering as 3rd choice LB. Excluding Woolfeden we at least have 5 CBs for 2 spots. At RB for example we do have 4 players who could play there as in an emergency if MVE and KKH are injured Latabadieure and Eccles can play there albeit again that wouldnt be ideal . But at LB if we lose Da Silva there is literaly nobody natural there beyond an 18 year old whose best position is CB.

Its a total cluster fuck

I dont think we need a 3rd choice LB.

To be hoenst I'd rather KKH cover there than Bidwell.

Well thats one thing that puzzles me as i thougjt KKH could.play LB as well but we have not once played him there. In the friendlies we never tried him there yet like you i thought one of his big selling points was he was natural at RB and LB.

He has played there in the league

Not the 1st time Thomas has done that this season. He did exactly the same with Brighton's 2nd goal on Sunday.

KKH didn't play in the friendlies because he was injured.
