So here goes, I'm probably going to be shot down but I need to write this down, even if it is to make sense of it myself.

I'm just not feeling it this season. I have had the feeling well before the season started and I'm sitting here tonight feeling nostalgic for the Championship already. I guess some of it is fear of an awful season but this 9 year rise has been on has been a proper rollercoaster but there is just something more authentic about Championship, League 1 & 2.

This just feels sterlile, players arriving that we know are only here for the club to profit from and for them to step up to the next level. I don't want us to be Burnley and be stuck in a perpetual yo-yo and i don't fancy losing more than winning (had enough of that in the 1980s & 90s). For me the Championship I always felt we could beat anyone on their day and last season we virtually did. I just wanted Friday night out of the way (and it looked like the players did as well) and I have never felt like that about any City game.

Even watching the coverage on Sky on Friday, Wright, Neville and Carragher had and have no interest in our rise back or fortunes this season. It all seemed so soulless. Teams like us are flies in their gravy train of closed shop teams. I guess a bit of this is now being a little fish in a very large pond.

We will probably win a couple of home games and this feeling will go away but it's strange.

Fairly natural isn’t it. We’ve moved from a scenario where we win a lot of games, generate feel good factor etc, to one where we wont win a lot. But I think you just have to try and enjoy being back amongst the elite. Watching our players compete with the likes of Rice and Gabriel.

The closed shop aspect definitely has some truth to it and pundits definitely take an amateur interest in our players and story. The top six bias and closed shop is pretty shameful to watch. Having said all of that, the point of supporting a football team is to dream. Love what we have done as a club. Going to enjoy the season as like a one off going on tour and reward for all the shit we have gone through. If we get anymore than that it’s a bonus.

I do get where you are coming from and have had a few similar feelings at times. A big part of it for me is that last season was a once in a lifetime event and its hard to imagine us ever repeating it. Then the excitement is tempered with the dread of us potentially being embarrassed on a weekly basis a la Sheff Utd.

I guess also its quite sad that we will need to move on the vast majority of players who got us here, replacing an incredible cast of characters with what will likely be less "relatable" ones.

But this is football, and nothing is set in stone. If you cant get excited and feel positive about this opportunity that FL and DK have given the club you probably need to pack up and find a new hobby. Even if we do go back down we will be in the strongest position the club has been since the cup win. If anyone can take us onto the next level its those who are currently at the helm.

But I am very excited for the season and spending £120m is absolutely nuts and totally surreal in an exciting way, as is the chance to test ourselves against the very best and hopefully pick up some memorable wins along the way.

One thing I do slightly struggle with though and can't quite get my head around: Obviously the aim is to establish ourselves in the PL long term. Let's say we manage that... Then what? Like is being a Fulham fan enjoyable? Is it fun to finish 10th-13th every season? Genuinely no idea!

This is the bigger picture view I’m taking. Try to enjoy this season as much as we can and see where we are.
Also, Losing away to Arsenal is better than losing away to Forest Green Rovers.

If we establish ourselves I’ll look forward to the fear of relegation from the prem being our source of excitement. Which I used to love!

The way the pundits talk about the big clubs is nausea inducing. As much as I don't like Leicester and didn't watch much sky sports the season they won the title, I am pleased someone outside the sky love in teams won the league.

totally the opposite, grew up watching Coventry in the top league, always felt that’s where we belong. Disliked the last 25 years, didn’t like sitting in Northampton or Birmingham or at home in front of 6,000 people: hated getting loan players from ‘bigger clubs’ Norwich FFS. I don’t care how this season turns out as we are back in the top league and 25 years of misery has been worth it all just to play Villa at home again.

Yes… I’m not feeling it. Even before a ball was kicked I’m just not getting the PL buzz. I wanted it but it’s a case of be careful what you wish for. I don’t think that will change if we went on a run of results either… for me it’s not about how many you win or draw…I just don’t feel connected to this league of plastic tourist fans. I even hate having to engage with fans of PL football….

We'll see how it goes, right now I'm still super excited about the prospect of this league and the new refreshing journey.

My only bugbear so far is with a lot of the pundits and influencers of the prem, who talk about our journey like they're experts, clearly just reading the usual top line of "25 years away" "they were homeless" etc. they really expose themselves when they try talking about our individual players. It's a tad fake and forced, just can't compare them to the likes of a Benjamin Bloom and similar lower league enthusiasts who have a genuine interest in the clubs and their history.

If we went down, I wouldn’t be that bothered because staying up at the first time of asking is difficult. I’d be optimistic we’d have a right good go at winning promotion again which would be a fun season again.

Losing to Arsenal doesn’t change my overall opinion that I reckon we’ll be sound this season.

I have conflicting feelings, I am old enough to remember us competing at Prem level and also being rank average too. Then obviously the gradual slide into league 2. I'd say from 2001 to the JPT final it was a waking nightmare bar few false dawns. The rise under Robins and last year are going to be so hard to beat but we are here now and need to just enjoy the ride.

I don't like what the Prem has become, the money paid for average players, the cost to the fans, the endless hype and the way fan culture gone. It really leaves me feeling cold. I want us to have a good go this season and I feel like we've made some smart moves. But if we did go down I think we'd be in an ok place too and well set to go again.

I cannot understand the spinless reaction post loosing to a buzzing Arsenal team in full swagger mode. Remind me if WW3 kicks off not to join the STB regiment, we'd be waving the white flag day one

I can’t believe the negativity on here sometimes.
I’d blame recency bias, but it’s not like you have to go that far back.
Just 15 months ago we lost 3-1 away at Plymouth. 18 months ago we lost 4-1 away at Portsmouth (in a shocking performance)

Friday we lost 3-0 to the second best team in the world.

Lose 3-0 away at arguably the best side in the world and this is what happens. The joy of the PL is being with the elite on centre stage. We’ve got a very talented squad that 90% of English football would love to have. They will improve and compete at this level just fine. We’re one good season away from European football. Enjoy it. I’d sooner be here than being beaten 6-2 by Yeovil town in the more “authentic” league 2, in front of 6000.

Personally I’m loving being back in the premier league.

I very much enjoyed the 2 hour prime time slot on sky sports premier league the fall and rise of Coventry city documentary got.

I now watch the transfer talk show with a knowing that we may get mentioned.

I like us all hope we can stay in the league. And if we do we may every year struggle to stay up. But what excites me is one year we may be heading for a comfortable mid table finish and can really give it a go in one of the domestic cups.

Yes the top of the league is a closed shop. Thst doesn’t mean with great team spirit and determination, and the support of the fan base. we can’t enjoy playing our part in the greatest football league in the world.
