Match Thread Coventry City vs Hull City (H) - Match Thread - Sat 29th August (3pm KO) (4 Viewers)

Even trying to apply a level head (which I rarely have) is tough. This is genuinely a terrible, terrible result psychologically.

Fucking dispiriting afternoon to say the very least. Hull genuinely felt a level above us. They had a plan and executed it perfectly. We had a plan that clearly wasn't working and kept trying it as if something different would happen.

This season's going to be shit, isn't it
I said this and it was written off. Ended up proven bang on right.

Not having a plan and having less confidence matters a great deal.

Should be absolutely no reason defenders in the PL need someone to take the ball off their toes and play as deep lying playmaker. We were hamstrung by it at times already last year, and the step up will make that even worse.
But we've signed two centre backs who don't look likely to play through the lines. At the moment it's all looking a bit disjointed and hit and hope

The positive - we're much, much better than Hull. We'll finish above them.

Negative - we're still far too easy to hit on the break. Grimes isn't good enough at this level.

Hey ho. Onto Man City for another tanking. That was a must win and Frank got the subs wrong. EMC, Tchaouna, Yirenkyi all much better than their replacements.

How many times has Grimes got the ball on the edge of the area and chooses to pass backwards or sideways. hamer is that position puts it top bins or plays a player through
Hamer needs fitness asap and replacing Grimes.

How we can fall behind Hull is a shame on everyone involved.

Tchouna is obviously lined up as the next boo boy.

I thought he was very average but some people are banging on as if he was light years ahead of those around him, and others are saying he was shite.

In reality it is neither but he is one of our most expensive signings and like many players on the pitch today, I expect more. Who actually played well? Not many. I am not sure about our line up either.

Frustrating result. We were the better team but didn't fashion enough chances.

The goals on torp. Delayed cross. We getting punished for everything

The subs also made us worse. Bta is not good on left and torp can't offer us same as yirinki. We missed FTT today on that substitution.

Mve was poor. But overall as a team we played alright and I am sure we will get better.

It's not good to be 6 off a relegation rival but we are not adrift at the bottom so let's just focus on improving game by game

Hamer is washed up. Sentimental signing, but he’s well past it.

There is no cutting edge, no cohesion, no aggression. It’s rinse and repeat plays over and over.
I wanted to think we would stay up and was hoping for 17th but if we don’t beat those that came up with us and those that struggled last season especially at home we are heading down.
The concern is the window as it stands looks awful and a huge waste of money. There is still time but those new players need a shake Amenda aside.
As it stands I can’t see where the win comes from or the goals. Let’s hope there is some movement before the window closes. Lampard needs to be asking some serious questions of the squad after that.

Lampard needs to ask questions of himself with whatever the tactics were and team set up was today.

Players I could have a a go at. But that’s a Championship team out there who couldn’t even step up against Hull City. So what chance against established PL teams?

This is a huge kick in the bollocks for morale for players and fans.

Hull seem to know how to play to their strength , and thats going to win them points

Our style of play , with grimes dropping in as a false centre half 🙄 will be damaging to us as teams will love the fact weve decided to take a man out of midfield to pass it wide

We need to wise up , tchaouna gets stick but he is power , pace and saka was like a schoolboy when he lost the dual im midfield , we cant afford it

Not one sub made us better btw. Not one.

Yeah, he’s usually very good with subs but Tchouna had just caused them problems and BTA is unlikely to produce whats needed on the LW. Frustrating as we were the better team but they did a job on us

Edit - quality in final third wasn’t good enough at this level

We've got better players than them, but they know what they're supposed to be doing and play to their strengths. The same cannot be said for us.

I wouldn't put money on finishing above them at all.
