Coventry City Council..........

Fuck me every time I dip into this thread it gets another level of mental added on top.

Few more days and a Prevent referral will be needed.

I don’t live in the City but those that do should have ensured by now that the councillors who shit on CCFC are history. Surely that will happen soon with the next major round of voting. Then the council will not be populated by traitors. Make sure you vote out that fucking Brummie Liverpool fan whilst you’re at it.

No thanks, Zara will always get my vote. She's a bit of a crackpot but I've found here to be a great constituency MP.

Went out of her way to massively help someone I know and got no publicity for it.

I realise she's unpopular and I'm not going to try and change people's mind and in all liklihood she'll be gone next GE but she's fucking sound as far as I'm concerned.

I've had to deal with her a couple of times relating to my Dads care and found the same. Both were things that were really the responsibility of the council but tried all 3 of my local councillors multiple times and couldn't get a response out of them.

Having said all of that she now seems massively distracted by the shambles that is Your Party. Not even sure if she'll run for re-election here or move elsewhere.

The islamists aren’t taking over mate.

Two posts that largely prove each other untrue in indirect ways. Then again...

Whilst we're hating on everyone, it was interesting to see Sky get booed on Sunday but not the EFL when they walked out together. We constantly sing Sky TV is fekkin shit, and it is, they are responsible for al of the moved games etc, but they also mean we have £100m next season. The EFL's role in enabling us to play 35 miles from home, in deducting points, imposing tranfer bands and not helping at our lowest ebb, seems to be forgotten with all the hate to Wasps, SISU and the council. We were massively let down by the EFL too, so they're another entity who can fk right off in lauding our success.

Is the Sky TV is fucking shit a bit of a bandwagon thing though? Almost like "look at us singing this while we are on sky, give us some back pats"?

Who’s still involved in the council other than George duggins
Likely to be a reform led council in May so they’ll all be on the side of the working people and building bridges surely

Putting fucking flags on bridges is about as far as they will get .

Clearly they weren't trying to kill the club. Granted they didn't help us but none of us are privy to the full details of what went on. Ultimately the council had a huge financial black hole in the shape of a football stadium and had to do what it could to mitigate against the risk of it becoming abandoned and derelict. Don't forget the club had been mismanaged for decades before SISU came along and we baled on our stake in the stadium early on leaving everyone else with financial headaches. We were far from reliable as an entity. That's not to say the council didn't make bad decisions, clearly they did but they weren't alone in that by any stretch.

I'd suggest that there is zero point in being angry with anyone now, the club survived, we've been reunited with the CBS and we've just been promoted as champions. Let it all go and just enjoy it.

They had no financial black hole, their net investment was around £10m. For that they owned the stadium freehold which without a lease in place, their own internal paper states is 'significant'.

They hoisted the £21m prudential borrowing on to ACL who in turn effectively hoisted it on to the club's rental charge to pay back the loan from Yorkshire Bank.

It’s pointless going over the whole stadium / hedge fund / rugby club saga again, but it’s clear that the Arena project developed into a nightmare, perhaps starting with how much it cost to clear and decontaminate the site. The football club’s poor fortunes on the pitch didn’t help, and I’m sure if we’d have been milking the Premier League money 15 or 20 years ago things would have been resolved much more easily.

It should be obvious that the Council isn’t a simple business that can do whatever it likes, but that it operates in a tangled web of political, financial, regulatory and legal considerations. God knows how many reports and meetings there were about this. CCFC suffered for years as collateral damage in the bitter struggle for control of the stadium asset, and we should all be very happy that it’s ours now, regardless of how it finally came about. Hopefully it’s being exploited far better by King than any of those previously in control of it, and to the benefit of CCFC which is fantastic.

Fair enough to anyone who can reduce it all down in their mind to “Fuck the Council”, but to me it will never be that simple, and it’s obvious that the club now needs to build a good relationship with them.

If it's any consolation - i booed Rick Parry and the Football league

It's not *just* fuck the council. And anyone who thinks that the council were somehow obliged to sell the stadium to Wasps without offering the club with the City's name in the crest any protection, hasn't followed the story closely enough.

In simple terms, the Council fucked us at the point of the sale, and then they fucked us plenty more afterwards.

The club has to have a working relationship with the council for sure, but as fans we don't.

So fuck 'em, I'm not having them ride on the tails of a hard-won success that was finally achieved in spite of the Council, rather than because of them.

Trouble will be that the prem will be no different in my mind.

I respect where you are coming from, and it's futile dragging up all the ins and outs of the whole affair again.

But just to be clear - when referring to "The Council" as if it were a blob, this applies to all of the Councillors, all of the political parties, and all of the officers - then, now and forever regardless of circumstances? It seems unnecessarily dogmatic...

2bf - they referred to “SISU” as one blob with the club.

Zaras not taking over!
As I say, not trying to change people's mind about her but she massively stepped up to help a freind and I'll always be grateful for that, as they will.

Whilst I do appreciate from a personal perspective the importance of things like that, unfortunately she's done so much damage to her own reputation, a bit like our own council, that any decent gestures won't really go very far.

She's made herself look like a right idiot again in the last 24 hours.

That gesture went far with me. It's simple as that.
Like I say, not trying to change anyone else's mind.
And being a good constituency doesn't mean people are capable of operating at a higher level, as she, and many others have proved.

I hear you too mate, and I entirely respect your opinion on it.

From where I sit though, the Council did act in lockstep on it. I honestly can't recall any dissenting voices either at the time of the decision or after it - they just kept doubling down on Wasps, no matter how bad it got. Councillors, Chief Exec, Senior Officers, no one fought on our side, as I remember it anyway.

So the hypocrisy of them trying to get some reflected glory on what this club has achieved in spite of their actions, is what sticks in my craw, and always will.

Sorry mate, we obviously differ on this, but at least in a civilised way. Maybe in twenty or thirty years I'll have mellowed (or more likely, decomposed!). 😁

👍 No problem whatsoever mate, and I dare say you understood it better than me at the time.

Your point about no dissenting voices is one of the things that probably influenced me at the time. I just found it hard to imagine (and still do) that EVERYONE somehow had a cruel agenda to damage the football club. At no stage did I ever hear Sepalla or Fisher saying anything that didn't seem to be perversely calculated to make the Council dig in harder. It was easy to conclude that they were using CCFC as a hostage to get something for nothing, which didn't sit right with me at all.

Backing the Wasps fantasy of dominating European rugby was clearly a shitshow, and as you say they refused to recognise that. I guess I was naive in imagining that the Council would always ensure that we would emerge intact and with Sisu gone. Thank god that's now turned out to be the case, and better than we could have realistically hoped for! But other than Doug King (and possibly inadvertently Mike Ashley 😂) I still don't really know who deserves the most credit for it 🤷‍♂️
