Coventry City Council..........

What purpose does it serve though? You know yourself that SISU were dicks to deal with. There will have been mistakes and bad feelings on both sides. We can either move forward and make the club the focal point of the city that it should always have been or we can sit around grumbling about the past.
Absolutely 100% the moving forward bit but as I near my 60th I'm definitely gonna embrace some of the latter too.

What purpose does it serve being angry at sisu, wasps, russel slade.

Until the council apologise for their actions in trying to kill the club they can get to fuck.
Clearly they weren't trying to kill the club. Granted they didn't help us but none of us are privy to the full details of what went on. Ultimately the council had a huge financial black hole in the shape of a football stadium and had to do what it could to mitigate against the risk of it becoming abandoned and derelict. Don't forget the club had been mismanaged for decades before SISU came along and we baled on our stake in the stadium early on leaving everyone else with financial headaches. We were far from reliable as an entity. That's not to say the council didn't make bad decisions, clearly they did but they weren't alone in that by any stretch.

I'd suggest that there is zero point in being angry with anyone now, the club survived, we've been reunited with the CBS and we've just been promoted as champions. Let it all go and just enjoy it.

Stopped reading at 'weren't trying to kill the club'

They very much were.
I've said it before their beef may have been with sisu but they were quite happy to let the club ve collateral damage

Wasps was the tip of the iceberg, they put terms on us that we couldn't meet back in 2005, then because they fixated on the Ricoh not being for sale, something which put a number of buyers off in 2008 - they refused to allow the club to deal with anyone but SISU.

SISU were a symptom of the council's mission to extract whatever money they could from the football club. I'm glad the city's economy is going to benefit from a Premier League football team but the council should be banned from jumping on the bandwagon. They wanted us as a city of rugby, its a shame Doug lets any of the grifters inside the stadium

Lets assume that's true for the sake of argument, what benefit is there to us as a club by continuing to hold a grudge?

the benefit is not to rely on them for anything. don't make the same mistake in thinking the council will support its football club.

Just on top of that - which part isn't true?

The club aren't continuing the grudge, King is pragmatic, he'll form partnerships with whoever is necessary.
The fanbase is different.

There were no olive branches being held out to the support by the council in our darkest hours, so it's only right we now tell them to fuck off, we don't need them

I'm not really sure the Police can take the moral high ground with crime the way it is in this city

Have your car nicked, they are nowhere to be seen.

Celebrate our clubs revival, they threaten to arrest

Fucking hell. get back to whining about cyclists on Facebook the lot of you 🤣

That the councils actions were a deliberate attempt to "kill the club" as was being suggested.

Anyway done arguing about it. You all do you.

I get anger at specific individuals; there were some very happy to fuck us over, heads should have rolled and it's very hard to forgive and forget, but continued vitriol at 'the council' as if it were some sort of static entity seems a bit pointless to me.

I think it is important to hold them to account for what they did. They were quite happy to fuck us over repeatedly, and we need to make sure that never happens again. That doesn't mean we shouldn't stay in adult mode, but there are too many people prepared to let this wash away quietly. This cannot happen. There needs to be a conscious effort at redemption from 'their side' to build some bridges at this point, before anything further.

Who’s still involved in the council other than George duggins
Likely to be a reform led council in May so they’ll all be on the side of the working people and building bridges surely

I'd imagine sisu and wasps have changed personnel but would you want them hanging around again?

We have just won the league, got promoted with 3 games to spare and we are digging up the past and debating it?

fuck me enjoy the moment and live for the excitement of at least one season in the premiership

debate Man City or Aresenal at the CBS next season…. not CCC

The vote they took to sell the stadium to Wasps, fucked the club. They were in a position to protect CCFC as an entity in the City, but they did nothing to do so. Nothing.

Maton, the c**t, and a lot of his fellow councillors then took to cheerleading and protecting Wasps at all costs, promoting them ahead of the club at every fucking opportunity. This to justify an increasingly obvious appallingly bad decision. In the end, it cost us, the taxpayer, a six figure sum when Wasps eventually went pop, as was visible coming from a very great height.

Most of those behind these corrupt shenanigans are still in post. And now they want to join in our celebrations? Fuck that.

I'm all for forgiveness when there's a genuine apology and intent to put past wrongs right, but this bunch of shits just hope we'll forget. No fucking way. Not ever.

I'm quite capable of doing all 3 thanks

Typical, just like the state and the media telling us what we should do and what we should feel.

I saw a guy with a SISU banner at Wrexham game

I get it. But I thought to myself you don't beat a corrupt council without a SISU imo. It's a shit situation we had to deal with but maybe we ain't here anymore unless we had sosu to be cunts to the council cunts?

Either way I'm not sure how some fans can ONLY be anti sisu. Hate both them and council for sure. But not just Sisu

SISU were here because of the council. But let’s not give them any credit.

they were the ultimate custodians of the club, were where we are despite them. They had nothing to do with anything good other than giving Mark Robins another chance - and that only came about because his stock was low at the time

Not giving them too much credit but I guess where in at is that I believe if Doug king had bought us in 2009 that the council would have been dicks to him and stood in his way and charged high rent etc

They had to be worn down to realise they couldn't bully us and for that I guess I do give sisu credit actually

I think he is much better at getting what he wants than they were. Might still have hit a dead end with those who were running things at the time though, there was a weird hostility to the club there.

Agreed. I think council were greedy and it didn't matter if we had nice owners or bad ones

CCC tried to illegally divert public money to Wasps in order to stop them going bankrupt before someone leaked it and they were forced to stop.

Have they apologised for that?
I don't believe anyone has apologised on behalf of the council for that.

I also believe that the chance of any apology being forthcoming for any of the actions the council took that a number of fans feel were reprehensible feel about as likely to me as a senior council staff member leaving Coventry Council without a Non Disclosure Agreement being applied to them.

How many councillors are left who would have been in place at the time of the secret ballot when the stadium was sold to Wasps?

Wouldn't anger be better focused and targeted at those and voting and publicising better alternatives in their wards at every opportunity?

I don't believe the Chief Executive at the time is still in a position to harm the City of Coventry or the football club.

I think Pete's right, politics is changing and I wouldn't be surprised to see a number of existing councillors replaced in due course by either candidates aligned with Reform or the other extreme in terms of the Independent / 'Green' / Islamism end of things.
