Chelsea - they couldn't, could they!? (3 Viewers)

That'll be because people have put money on since the game on Tuesday.
After Doug recovers from his hangover I want to hear about a 2 year contract extension for Frank.
He’ll sign a contract extension and I genuinely believe he is invested in the project and from his personal POV, much more cautious about his next steps.

I can't see this happening.
Frank will most most likely manage Chelsea again one day, but that's when the club is being run properly, and he's increased his reputation (e.g keeping Cov in the top flight / top half team etc), that way he can demand certain criteria such as transfer budget.
I can't see England being a threat either (at this time). Look at Southgate. Did pretty well, but he wouldn't get a Champions League club now as a manager. That's if he's sucessful. If, like most England managers it doesn't work out, he'd be lucky to get a low end Premier League club.
Also...He's not the most loved character in the world, and never has been! Look at the sh*t he's taken this season at Stoke and Southampton. Bringing Cov back to the top flight, and then jumping ship to Chelsea.. The scrutiny he would face...
I think the main dangers would be a Fulham or Crystal Palace. Local to him, and established in the league now. He'd have a bigger budget, and wouldn't face massive expectations in his first season, but I think we're going to surprise a few people next season.

There's a lot of jealousy towards Lampard and also many that said he is a poor manager that have been shown to be wrong. The normal way for an idiot online to get revenge for being shown to be wrong is go on the attack.

What Lampard has done with us in the last 18 months has been amazing and has been noticed. He doesn't have high expectations with us, but if he went to an established club with better players and a bigger budget the pressure would start from day 1. They can't afford to be involved in a relegation battle.

I can't see Lampard leaving for at least a year, and even then if other Prem sides come sniffing around it would mean he has done a good job with us.

How many clubs can say they've only had 2 managers in the last 10 years like we can? He must have one of the safest jobs in English football, especially after what he has accomplished this season.

Well he wasn't that good at Everton ,average at Chelsea and at Derby took them to 5 th the same as Gary Rowett. What he done has learnt and adapted form his previous experiences.

Top headline on BBC Sport ain’t helping. Basically this is all hinges on if Lampard wants to go back to Chelsea. Bit precarious, but you think he would be wise enough to stay away, although his heart might want to go back to his career club.

Other than the fact Chelsea won’t want him

As I said my original post, I think it all depends on what Lampard wants. Objectively it would simply be unwise for him to move. The only factor would be if his connection to Chelsea sways him, but twice bitten should overrule it.
no, it also depends on if Chelsea want as well and that is very unlikely

Just reading the comments on the BBC website, lot of Chelsea fans saying they'd have him but he'd be mad to take it. Poison Chalice etc
Exactly. They know he did a good job previously under a difficult situation but can't see him being interested, at least not just now.

Club has basket case owners and he’s said it loads of times how important it is he gets on with the owner.

If he goes to Chelsea now and inevitably (they all do) gets sacked his football manager career would be done over for good.

He’s more mature now and he talks about work life balance etc and this is the perfect club for him.

Could be my Coventry bias that, but I think we underestimate Lampard’s achievement. To win the title by a distance without the financial advantage of parachute payment - just couldn’t see why a club wouldn’t want him. It’s not like he hasn’t managed at that level already, in fact he got them into the champions league.

So weird how this story has got legs, it is now the main sports bulletin on national radio 5Live 🤷

They even had a clip of Doug saying how much Frank loves the "cidde"

I get the feeling Lampard will just leave at the end of his contract. Nothing lost at that point. We’re expected to go down - so as long as he gets 12 points his reputation is restored

Not to sound naive but there’s no way he leaves right now. After next season then maybe, yeah.

I'm wobbling my head.

If Chelsea came in for him now I can't see him going. He has just stated that he sees what has just happened as having only one game in his whole playing career above it. This isn't a finished project. The journey has just started. He has also stated how much he is enjoying himself. He certainly isn't doing it for the money. He has an owner that has backed him and he trusts King.

Does anyone really believe he would give it all up to go to a club that would sack him quite quickly if the results were not good?
It’s all about opinions, and hopefully we’ll never find out who’s right but I think you’re underestimating the pull of a big club, and HIS big club. Personally I think he’d be gone so quick his feet wouldn’t touch the ground.

“Loving the project at Coventry” is what you say to the press, whilst in the Coventry job. He’ll undoubtedly see himself moving to bigger and better things at some point, and if he stays here and we struggle then his current high stock, and perhaps his opportunity for a big job may well be gone.

Did you see Lampard joining in with his own song? Did you see Lampard only just keep his emotions in check?

He is on a free hit with us as we will be amongst the favourites to go back down. The reason he came to us was he could see the potential. We were not the only club that tried to sign him.

Or he could go to Chelsea, see them have a bad run then get the sack. He's already been there twice so why would he miss out on what he is enjoying so much to take a massive gamble on going to a club that sacks managers for fun?

It wouldn't surprise me if there's a contract extension coming up.

I think his next job will be as England manager, and being under contract wouldn't make any difference.

He’s not on a free hit. Some wanted him out after a nil nil at home to Oxford as I recall. They’ll want him out before Christmas if in the bottom 3, and who knows if Doug will.

Being proud of his accomplishments here doesn’t mean that his head won’t be turned by bigger clubs, especially them.

No one can say for sure, I’m in the camp that says he’ll go to them without hesitation given half a chance, you think he’ll stay for a relegation battle cos he loves it here. 🤷‍♂️

I was talking about this the other day.
Fans are fickle. Theres fans who are lauding him (and rightly so) who will call for his head after 4 games next season if we’re getting pumped.

People giving their opinions that don't know much about football are not making the decisions. Why would King get rid of Lampard if we don't stay up? He would have the perfect manager to take us back up.

Why would he co back to Chelsea after they have got rid of him twice already? Big clubs will be looking for experienced managers and not someone who has just taken up a team from the Championship. Lampard still has to prove himself at Prem level. I could see lower Prem sides being interested in him, but this would mean taking over a side with problems. This would also be a risk.

We're not just a side that scraped promotion. We've won the title with games to spare and scoring lots of goals. We have some good players and team morale is excellent. He has the full backing of the owner and supporters. That's a lot to give up for another side in the bottom half.
