Match Thread Arsenal v Coventry Friday 21st August 23 ko 8pm (3 Viewers)

Arsenal a goal up after 24 seconds is a warning for City's defence.
You cant afford a slow start against the PL champions.

I was quite confident this morning of snatching a draw

Seeing them now against Citeh, im fucking terrified
I'm hoping they take it for granted against us personally 🙏

I hate all this negativity, so get yourself a large bottle of something strong and chill 😎🫣👀

We're a proper banana skin. They're expected to win without getting out of 2nd gear, but we've just schooled a side that beat Liverpool less than a week ago. Many will have watched the game last night and seen quite a solid unit that goes forward with speed.

Looking forward to avenging the 4-0 defeat in the FA cup - my lasting memory was the lights failing and everyone turning on their phones until they came back on - should have been abandoned we hardly touched the ball all game
I have to say for all the stick Arsenal fans get - They were classy and respectful that night and supported the SISU/Bring us Home protest

Haven’t forgotten that

We can go there confident but watching them today they were very very good
Admittedly Man City were poor but Arsenal didn't look as though we could catch them cold
Just hope they are complacent

Arsenal are incredibly professional from front to back. There is zero chance they are going to lie down and let us catch them out. But it is the first game of the season and strange things can happen. We are looking in very good shape so hopefully will give them a good game.

I think we will do better against them than Manchester City did. They're going to try to overrun us but will they be prepared for us hitting them with pace?

Whatever happens we will score at least as many as Manchester City. Maybe do well enough to get them a little worried for when we play.

Expecting a loss by three or four goals. Remember the first few games up in the Championship and what a shock to the system they were and this will be even worse. What’s good is by playing two of the best teams early we get a quick lesson in the levels needed and even if we can’t meet Arsenal and Man City we might do better against Hull, Brighton, Forest and Newcastle than maybe we would otherwise.

Just want a good performance where heads don’t drop and I’ll be happy.
Eh? We only lost the first one by a narrow goal having been the better side for a lot of it. Won the second.

Feels like all the pressure is on them as champions to set a marker.

While for us we’ve got nothing to lose and have such got the freedom that provides.
As 'pressure' goes this fixture will provide the least for them this season - But we can hope.
Historically they are perennial bottlers - Just not necessarily on a first date.

Whenever I saw them play last season they seem to confine Gyokeres to the width of the penalty area. He rarely seems allowed to venture out wide to pick the ball up and run at a defence which he did so often here. They don’t play to his strengths.

TBF he'd be the same here now. Haji isn't allowed to do that either even though it's arguably one of his strengths.

Just seems strange to play him that way. They will have seen what he did for us and for Sporting but then ask him to play in such a way that he can’t use one of his major attributes. I don’t think the change with Haji is as marked as it is with Gyokeres.

I had a right fucking odd dream lastnight! The Arsenal game was on and i was trying my hardest to watch it, but work kept pulling me away, then the missus, loads of stuff going on and I just couldnt see more than the odd second or so here and there as I passed a tele on my way to the next bullshit task id been pointlessly given! Anyway, long boring story short, we drew 0-0 in the end!

Its a win win situation to me. Nobody is expecting us to get anything from it, so if we do, we be the talk of the town. I am taking the delusional approach and feeling that we can get something from this, like snatching a late draw
