Match Thread Arsenal v Coventry Friday 21st August 23 ko 8pm (3 Viewers)

I expect us to lose quite heavily, but will be pleasantly surprised with anything better than that. I like the optimism on here but feel like some are not prepared for how tough this season is probably going to be.

Regardless, we don't really know how we will compete so it will be an interesting match. I hope we can do some damage to them.

They'll beat us 9 times out of ten at home (probably more) but we're winning next week. This is the time to catch them ;)

They play Manchester City in Cardiff for the Charity Shield tomorrow. Would be nice if they picked up a few slight knocks and played their 2nd string against us 🤔 😂

Significant loss likely. I’d like to see us score to evidence some attacking bite in the league.

Have faith. First game of the season so they won't be up to speed. The first few games of the season always throws up some surprising results.

I'm not saying we won't lose. It's just a very good time to play them at their place.

Yeah, maybe. Sensible money on a 3-0 loss I think. Not the end of the world. In fact it might not hurt for fans to realise the scale of the challenge.

I was just as worried first match of the Premiership at Highbury, but Mickey Quinn proved me wrong.
So much more confident about this one and am going for a 0-3 win.
And truth, though it might be only be 0-2.
I was very impressed with us yesterday against Monaco.
Actually, on reflection, 0-5, same as every week.

They'll probably play much of their 2nd string in the Charity Shield.

2nd string against Coventry City or Manchester City 🤔😂

They will want to.beat Manchester City for bragging rights and to win something. They will expect to beat us. They're one of the best club sides in the world.

Saliba is out, Rice and Saka having injuries and minutes being monitored, Eze and Mdueke being slagged by their fans, could be our best chance of upsetting the fuckers early on!

I can see us putting up a good showing, but have a nagging feeling that we will be on the wrong end of a VAR decision and lose narrowly.

We need to be strong mentally and physically. We do seem to have a powerful looking team now. Only worry is lack of strikers, whilst Simms has been looking up for it, BTA looks second rate. Only worry apart from playing the Champions away that is 🤦‍♂️

Expecting a loss by three or four goals. Remember the first few games up in the Championship and what a shock to the system they were and this will be even worse. What’s good is by playing two of the best teams early we get a quick lesson in the levels needed and even if we can’t meet Arsenal and Man City we might do better against Hull, Brighton, Forest and Newcastle than maybe we would otherwise.

Just want a good performance where heads don’t drop and I’ll be happy.

Got my ticket, got my place on the coach, got the day off. I just need to get through the rest of the week.

The idea of going to the Emirates to watch Coventry City is fucking preposterous to me. I'm so excited

100% having Arsenal and Manchester City away in the first few weeks gives us a tiny bit more of a chance of catching them cold rather than midway through the season.

Burnley went there and kept it tight even as Arsenal were pressing for the title. There's a lot to be said for just sitting in deep and trying to hit on the break.

I'm expecting us to concede at least one from a corner as it looks like we're going along with their shenanigans of crowding the box.

Regardless of result, this is best time to play them.

If we can stay in game, we have a chance with our firepower - even missing wright.

I’m quietly confident of nicking something which is mad to think that at the champions home ground 😂

If we can get 4 points in each 3 game block we'll finish in midtable. That seems to me like a good way of looking at it.

True but nonetheless, it’s still impressive. We played well!
Scored 5 goals against 2 dceent european level sides , got be to pleased with that

Also , in pre season did we only concede 2

Still pinching myself this is even happening in all honesty and I genuinely do not think the neutrals watching at home will watch the game and at the end of it think “there is no way these two should be sharing a pitch”

I think we will be valiant losers - 2-0 Arsenal

This feels surreal, I think we can nick a point 1-1 I reckon we do it with a set piece as well to rub salt in the wounds of Set Piece FC.

Amenda to score the first goal of the new era for CCFC in the Premier League to equalise late on after a Gyokeres goal breaks the deadlock.
And lengthy VAR interventions for both, well one of the goals.
