Match Thread Arsenal v Coventry Friday 21st August 23 ko 8pm (4 Viewers)

Good time to play them in theory but I don't think we'll be the strongest version of ourselves yet either with players still to come in, injuries and new players bedding in. We have to be realistic this season, in this one I'd just like to not get panned and put up a fight.

This is a photo from our first home game of the season 10 years ago, the ill fated 2016/17 season - probably one of the worst of my Cov supporting life.

Absolute madness to think of our transformation in that time and we’re now opening the season away to Arsenal, having spent ~£170M.

We’re coming away with a score draw.View attachment 54299

We couldn't even get the goals set up in the right place. Shambles.

We are to most, cannon fodder , against the prem league champions, but 48 hours on from Monaco game , 2 new strikers in place & hopefully, Chelsea agree to 2 loanees & then we really make our mark in the prem .

Just need to be competitive and have some luck, they play today which again, may give us an element of fitness/rest in the legs.
Will be most interested how we play and whether we press like we did against Monaco or whether we try and sit deep.

They beat us 9.9 times out of 10 with skill, power and pace, it’s how we match against that as just as previous promotions, the step up to that level is massive

Assume it will be the same 11 that starts. Be interesting to see what the bench looks like, especially if the 2 strikers sign in time and Rudi, Torp and EMC are back.

Them at their best and us at our best are miles apart.

We know how they will play. They will have to guess about us. I'm almost sure our performance on the pitch is going to surprise many even if we lose.

But at the end of the day it's champions v champions. Neither side used to losing. As long as we're not like a rabbit caught in headlights it should be a good game instead of one-sided like most expect. They will have most of the possession and we will keep hitting on the break.

Last time I commented on a match we were involved in in the premier league it would have been on the forum they used to have on the official site!

2-1 Arsenal. We’ll play well, go 1 up and then they’ll scrounge it… probably including some favourable decisions.

I expect us to lose quite heavily, but will be pleasantly surprised with anything better than that. I like the optimism on here but feel like some are not prepared for how tough this season is probably going to be.

Regardless, we don't really know how we will compete so it will be an interesting match. I hope we can do some damage to them.
We have to remember that Arsenal haven't got a clue how we are going to play considering all our signings. We could surprise them or be a bag of shite! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 "I would love it!" As Kevin Keegan said 😉😉

This is how they’re lining up today and probably for Friday now.

I was quite confident this morning of snatching a draw

Seeing them now against Citeh, im fucking terrified
I do think Arsenal will be a different beast now they’ve got the monkey off their back.

Equally, Man City under Maresca gives me real Moyes after Fergie vibes.

Great time to play them and Man City imo.
Gives us a chance to get something before they get into their stride.
If we get fuck all then thats only what was expected, but we get to see the level we should aspire to.
These games will be a great learning experience if nothing else.

A good time to play them. Start of the season before they're settled in for the season. Some injuries/knocks especially in defence.

Heart says draw. Head says we play better than most think we will considering we're 16/1 for the win. Expecting a close defeat but with respect from many because of the way we play.

"Before they're Settled in"

It's already 2.0 to Arsenal in the charity shield. 😱

Looks almost certain that Gyok won't be starting against us ( unless Havertz gets injured today)

Because they're shitting all over Man City

Also following on from that, im a lot more confident of us snatching a point from Man City than I am Arsenal. I dont rate Maresca at all
Man city have played poo
