Used to do it several times a year, basically every time they ran a session near me which I think was every 4 months.

But they stopped running sessions near where I lived at the time so that was the end of that.

Did look when I first moved here and the only ones near me were office hours only which seems odd if you want to maximise donors. My Dad used to give regularly and they'd turn up to his work and everyone that wanted to could donate while at work which I've never known to happen anywhere I work.

I was about to ask this.

Do you have to go to the doctors / hospital at a certain time to be able to do it?

It's something I've often thought about but never actually done or got round to doing.

I'm not allowed as I had a transfusion due to a blood disorder pre 1990, but my dad donates regularly as a result

You have to register an account on a fairly clunky blood donation website, which is separate to any login you already have for the NHS. You can then book an appointment either through the website or via an app, again a separate app to the NHS one.

I think most sessions allow you to just turn up but you then have to wait.

I used to until 10 years ago when I got Lyme disease. I stopped as I didn’t want to pass it on to anyone.
Apparently I am ok to give blood again but still get the odd relapse in symptoms so won’t give blood again as much as I would like to as I don’t think its the right thing to do.

website is better than it used to be, much smoother now.

www.blood.co.uk, make an account, find a local place to donate and book a time. they used to allow walk ins, but as they get so busy they dont do it anymore. Wagons used to turn up to my old place of work, but think they've stopped those (unless organised by the company) these days.

i tend to go either warwick/leamington, usually in and out within an hour, plus free snacks afterwards.

used to be scared of needles, and genuinely i dont feel it anymore, think im up to 27 donations now

Next donation at the end of August, donation number 18! Usually have it done at the community centre on Jubilee Crescent. Or anywhere else that’ll do a Saturday.

Maybe one day will give platelets. I think the nearest is Birmingham or Leicester which makes it tricky.

I know I’m on the bone marrow register, but I’ve gotta be honest I think I’d bottle it.

I did for a few years and then they stopped me giving as I had received a transfusion in the 90’s. I had started giving because I had the transfusion and wanted to give back.

Got my silver badge for 25 a few years back but since being diagnosed as diabetic (fat) they won't let me any longer.

I started giving blood when I worked for British Leyland, at the old Morris Engines factory. They used to turn up in a big custom made vehicle, and you got ½ an hour away from your work station. Started donating around 1973, but after my first heart attack and double bypass, I was informed I could no longer donate. I also did a story promoting blood donation when at BBC CWR. I still have that tape!

Never given blood but I’m on the blood stem cell database with DKMS and got matched with someone a few years back to extract marrow. Ended up finding a better match so it never went ahead but it was an interesting experience.

Same here, Houch.
Started donating when the trailer came to Solihull (Landrover) got an hour off the track.
I used to have a shopping list of confectionery requests from the ‘needle shy’.
“Can you get us a wagon wheel”?
“Grab us a twix”.
