Pretty sure we have people from BME backgrounds in the city. If they are being disproportionately impacted that is in issue isn't it?

spot on, you know where it’s gonna end up though unfortunately

[SeaSeeEffCee]

Does anyone ever actually read articles these days or do we just live off headlines?

[Ring Of Steel]

It's being mentioned as there is evidence that BME populations are showing disproportionately high rates of infection.

I don’t get what’s so hard to understand about it.

It seems we don't, what with tom and his embarrassment earlier.

It’s a good point. You’ve probably also noticed as I have that the the thick and/or ‘righter wing’ are the first ones to immediately throw hissy fits without actually having any real clue what the facts are behind the headlines

Still waiting to hear why I'm a racist btw David

I seen an article today men more likely to die. does that mean us men are being disproportionately impacted?

Yes, if one section of the population is impacted at a higher rate than it accounts for in the population then it is disproportionately impacted.

Not sure what article you're referring to but if its deaths rather than infections I would expect the relevant medical experts to be looking into why that is the case as that will allow them to improve treatment.

If its infection rate rather than death then I would suspect more likely to be socio-economic reasons such as a higher proportion of men still working in jobs that can't be done from home. Again I would expect the relevant experts to be looking at that to see what can be done.

surely only you know the answer to that

[David O'Day]

Have you actually read the article?

There's already health inequality before you even get to coronavirus.

That links to high levels of poverty which you could reasonable suggest means people from those communicates are likely to have little choice other than to stay working and are unlikely to be in roles where they can work from home.

The high levels of poverty would indicate that they work in the service industries have smaller more populated housing a d less garden space.

All things that would make them more at risk.

But grenners starts wibbling on about how the virus can't choose to infect bme people o e white people when no one has ever claimed that

[TomRad85]

surely only you know the answer to that

Makes no sense. David made the accusation..

I've back up what I said to you mate and now you are ignoring as it makes you look silly.

Do you now understand that bme people are disproportionately being infected with covid-19?

I'll even explain what that means to you. If population group a makes up say 5 percent of the population but 10 percent of the cases of people with covid-19 then that means they are disproportionately affected. You then need to look at why.

With regards to men, that is survival rate which is different

[The Lurker]

yeah great social distancing this isn’t it?

We are all, by definition from an 'ethnic' background. Unless I've missed something and there are some ethnicities that are not, in fact, ethnicities :joyful:

Tom, Grendel, The Lurker (brilliant name btw) don’t see any issue, it’s the person raising it that has the problem apparently.

What a surprise

[Grendel]

yeah you’re definitely buddies with grendel aren’t you

You are at it again. The LSP wanted sultana deselected. She wasn’t exactly very clever to get her name splattered across the national news prior to her election and if she carries on as she is Starmer will deselect her.

I’ve already said she’s a pretty decent person and I have some sympathy as I think she was managed by the appalling Innes who of course herself was not selected and the whole campaign was a car crash

She should learn from Taiwoo how to conduct herself as they are pretty much at the same stage in their careers and one is likely to be a very long standing Mp on the area as she is very active on local issues and the other isn’t - rather than act like a twat all the time perhaps listen to local politics and stop playing dumbass games

the reason could well be the lack of social distancing? ever thought of that? mosques still open. Barrington put a video up of Muslims praying in a park? doesn’t help now does it?

tbf, Grendel is on no side of racists like the Lurker.

I think it's certain religious groups.
Problems with people ignoring guidelines to go to mosques in Iran, high instances of infection.
Problems with Hasidic Jews ignoring guidelines in Israel, high instances of infections.
Let's see what happens in the States this Easter weekend.

Starmer can't deselect anyone, he can't even suspend people.

To deselect her the nec would have to expel her or the Coventry South CLP would have to vote to deselect her before the next election.

We can add labour party democratic procedures to the long list of things you know nothing about.

do you know what a racist actually is?

[fernandopartridge]

Exactly, no one has said the virus chooses to infect bme people more but as they are disproportionately bei g infected we need to look at why.

It's socio economic more than a BME thing, the poor working class will be worst affected

[Deleted member 5849]

do you know what a racist actually is?

Yep. You.

You're the kind who bangs on about people calling your acist when, just about everybody on this boar5d thinks you racist but no, it couldn't be that you're actually racist... it's that everyone's calling you racist for no reason!

Pathetic little victim tendency that.

[David O'Day]

It's socio economic more than a BME thing, the poor working class will be worst affected

That wouldn't explain why there was a report 2 days ago that said a third of the critically ill patients in the uk are bme unless you fact factor poverty and life style and location into it.
