Transfer Rumour Carl Rushworth - Permanent (7 Viewers)

I rated Fulop, though he wasn't here long thought he was a really solid keeper.

Shame he passed so young.
100% agree on this Liquid Gold. I was also very impressed by David Stockdale during his very short emergency loan - showed what a class confident keeper should look like.

Hopefully they release the Rushworth signing with our new striker taking shots at him.
Only worry there would be to see Rushworth save them all easily from our new £70 million striker or alternatively the new bloke shooting all over the place at Ryton apart from the nets - that would be so CCFC. :)

Well that's that over at last!

I thought £15m max but there seems to be a big inflation this summer with the new spending rules.

It's a huge gamble really. £20m odd rising to £30m is an awful lot to put into one position and only an injury away from losing the lot. It'll restrict what we do elsewhere on the pitch too. LB needs addressing pretty badly and probably a CB and cover for Grimes/Onyeka. I'm not sure at all.
We’re already £20m over budget for this summer, very concerning

The buy-back might help us too if we're somehow we're relegated.
I think the advantage would all fall on Brighton's side, say it's set at £40m as an example I would have thought they can bid whatever they like and we can tell them to do one up until they hit that point and we then have to accept.

(I could also be absolutely miles off and have no actual idea how these work which is more likely)

So to confirm, does a buy back mean that if Brighton bid at a certain price they automatically get him back?

It’s basically a release clause that only Brighton can activate.

Rushworth would still need to agree a contract with Brighton but we couldn’t say no if Brighton bid the required amount (normally these things can only be activated after a couple of seasons).

I imagine a team wouldn't bother triggering the clause without already knowing what the player wants to do, which I thought used to be tapping up but seems to just happen freely these days for some reason

Hmm…hoping it’s a lot of money and Rushworth loves us too much then

There appears to be no buy back from what I have read from the latest 'Its done (but its not really)' articles which is great

Don't worry, Doug's brothers, girlfriends, second cousins hairdresser reckons Doug has just bought a nice suit jacket from the charity shop and found a crisp £50 tucked away in the inside pocket 👍

You don't buy a Ferrari when you can't afford the service bills ;) Could we afford an injury to Rushworth? I highly doubt it. That's what I mean by a gamble.
Then any GK we would have signed would have been a gamble as we won't bring in another that would be at the Prem level.

I know Dovin has been out a long time, but GK is a position you don't expect to get injuries.

Michael Quirke?

Our number one at the time (can't remember if it was Westwood or Murphy then) got injured, we signed an emergency loan keeper and he got injured after 5 mins, so Quirke came on for his debut, think he was only 17.
Murphy I think.

On great goalkeeping performances with consequences. Don’t forget Oggie away at White Hart Lane that kept us up snd sent Sunderland down
I think the one at Anfield (same year) when we won 1-2 was even better. Liverpool were going for the title were on fire at the time. Our goal was peppered throughout the entire game. No idea how we won it but it was mostly down to Oggy. I still have visions of Dion trying to sort his feet out and tap it in from about a yard away. That was one of my favourite away games of all time.

David James 2 calamities

Would be interesting to see what percentage of the total fee initially we have paid for the 4 signings. Would of thought its at least 20 mill

Murphy I think.
I think it was Westwood, It was when Boothroyd was pulling rank on Westwood because he wouldn't sign a new contract, so we signed Iain Turner? I think - he got injured so we had to play Quirke

I liked him because he lived over my back fence - and his wife was fit too.
I liked him because it meant we didnt need to watch Lee Burge any more! Also, the amusement seeing the glee on Sundlerlands faces when they thought theyd scooped the deal of the century by "stealing Coventrys No1 off of them"! that was short lived!

Im not sure Dovin is anything more than slightly above average TBH

Even when he played i found his shot stopping decent but was poor on crosses stayed stationary on his line and his handling was just decent .

His distribution was good

I think if we had dovin in goal last season we dont get 95 points
Disagree.

I’ll happily agree that he had a slow start but without his performances in Jan-Feb, we don’t make the playoffs. He had a lot of metrics that indicated he was a top 5 Championship keeper at that moment in time.

Rushworth is a better keeper so it’s worked well in the end. We’ll make a neat profit on Dovin imo, providing he recovers properly.

Rushworth out for ages with injury in 23/24 when on loan to Hull.
