Confirmed Signing Dan Bentley - GK (1 Viewer)

Realistically tonight was one of the few games he’ll ever play for us. Dovin’s unlucky injury and Robins bizarrely keeper swapping has got this fanbase thinking that goalkeeper is rotating position when in reality if he’s fit (and the chance is he will be as keepers rarely get injury) Rushworth will play all 38 league games this season.

Wasting a year of Dovin’s career on the off chance that Rushworth gets injured is stupid.
Agreed. Dovin desperately needs first team football, so it would be counter-productive not to loan him out. He's our asset, and needs what's best for his development.

One match lads... Yeah let's write the poor fucker off 🙄God you lot are insufferable some times

Yeah you're right but it wasn't a classic performance.

Seemed to be quite vocal, premier league experience, can see the thinking behind the signing. Poor performance though.

You've answered your first sentence with your second sentence
What I mean is, I’d have kept Dovin in the building to fight with Rushy. Let’s be honest, wilson is there for his team spirit.

Its gonna do Dovin no favours him not getting first team games

Rushworth made some howlers early in his Coventry career, and made 2 versus Arsenal, doesn’t make him a bad keeper. FL and DA have done there due diligence on Bentley, so I trust him to do good for us if/when required.

I think the new GK coach has seen enough on Wilson and advised FL and Co. Dovin is a world away at the moment he’s been out way longer than expected even with ACL surgery.

Based on nothing. Dovin has played in pre season games. I imagine he will be going out on loan

But if Rushworth does get injured then he’s not filling me with confidence as backup.

I would imagine Dovin will be going out on loan. He needs consistent competitive games after a very long injury. And not just 1 or 2 league cup games with us.

Dan Bentley is a decent goalie, definitely a strong enough number 2. Just a nervy first half on Tuesday. I watched the Wolves v Blackburn game a few weeks ago and he kept them in the game, Blackburn should have won. Fans wrote Rushworth off after 4 games last season.

Have to be ruthless. Register 3
Established players have a right to expect to play in 10% of game. "Ghost squads" aren't allowed as a result although it's taken years to get there. If you don't register someone and they object to the situation you're probably into paying them off and the club will probably don't want to end up in that situation.

Yes Bentley was not all bad by any means. The first goal megged two players and he probably saw the ball very late. He recovered well when he spilt the ball making a fine save. He was playing behind a makeshift defence and for the first time. We might well need him if Rushworth gets hurt.

There's a fifa term in all players contracts called "just sporting cause". It came in after Bosman for similar reasons.

That's about bomb squads?

And that's exactly why the bomb squad ruling came about. The RSTP rules is much older. It'll be an implied contractual term.
Difference between not being registered and being in a bomb squad.

You've been told this already

You were wrong.
I've given you the link.

"Article 15 of FIFA RSTP provides that in an international context, if an established player features in less than 10% of a club’s official matches in a season, a window opens through which the player can look to go and end his contract with “sporting just cause”. A few months ago, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) handed down the decision in CAS 2018/A/6017. Prior to that, the leading case in this area dated back to 2008."

Can you provide me some real world examples of this happening please

I agree, there was more involved in the goal than just his slight error (like Rushworth at Oxford last year where he got slaughtered by fans, can look at 3 or 4 errors with the 2 goals in that game). God knows how Bentley spilled that shot but recovered well to make himself big to make the save. He was more solid second half. Got to give players a bigger sample size of games before writing them off.

Players are usually loaned or paid off before it comes to that.

Lugano vs Inter is the latest legal precedent. CAS ruled that the player has to object to not getting playing time but it established that the player can walk off on a free. All clubs and agents will know this, of course and that governs how clubs deal with those kinds of situations.

The rules are being refreshed from Jan 2027.
