Transfer Rumour Carl Rushworth - Permanent (2 Viewers)

Good news. With these things, though, I always wonder whether the sell-on is written out of the buy back. It would make sense that you don’t get a cut of a pre-agreed price that you’re paying.

The likelihood of Rushworth wanting to go back to Brighton is zero
It's brilliant that it looks like we've got him, but in worst case scenario and we ⬇️
Verbruggen goes to replace neuer...
that move back suddenly looks a lot more appealing for someone trying to get in st George's park.

Not true uness i hear it from Harriot

Man City agreed a £31m fee for Trafford but then got their sell on fee deducted so paid £27m

Imagine buying someone's 4th choice keeper for £30m. Brighton have had our pants down good and proper.

we could have gone for other keepers but kept pushing here , we dont buy on sentiment and we already know hes a tremendous keeper

I believe he will be in the england setup within 12 months

Theyre an incredibly astute club with great recruitment. The fact hes 4th choice and a potential England no1 is testament to that. Money well spent i say

I don't think it works like that. If there is a buy back clause it's likely to be 30% to 50% higher than the original selling price so lets say for an example, £40M.
If another club shows serious interest in signing him for more than that, Brighton would most likely activate the clause, sell him on, and take the profit.
If we get relegated but Rushford has a brilliant season he might want to leave, to stay in the PL, in that case Brighton would have the option to buy back, keep him, or sell him on.
We as the buying club would very likely have insisted that milestones, for example being picked to play for England, will increase the buy-back fee, thus giving us an incentive to develop him and thereby increasing his value, which it turn would benefit Brighton.
Sell on clauses within contracts have to comply with standard employment law so I guess CR would have to agree the contract terms up front.
Another point is the contract must comply with PL rules, so can only be triggered in a transfer window.
Edit: I forgot to add that usually buy backs have a finite term which will be specified in the contract, so possibly that would be the length of his remaining contract?? not sure on that.

Heard that they were going to let him go for £20 million and no buy back clause but then they read your post and added £10 mil

That’s one way of looking at it. Another is that we’ve spent up to £30m on a Championship POTS runner up. For context, Burnley paid £19m for Trafford out of L1 and that turned out to be a great signing.

Upon reflection, the initial fee of £22.5m is not too bad. Particularly, if we’ve spread out the instalments and I wouldn’t mind paying extra to spread the costs a bit. Likewise, if we hit the incentives, he’s probably been a good signing for us.

The transfer market is fucked because Prem teams, even middling clubs like BHA, have ‘FU money’. Our perspective as a fan base just cannot fathom spending £20m plus on players when 4 seasons ago our marquee signing was Kasey Palmer on a free transfer…

Which of the current England keepers do you think he's better than and will replace? He's was magnificent last season in a team that dominated. Time will tell if he will be as good in a team that's most likely to be struggling.

You could make that same argument against Trafford.

If £27m for Trafford following the 24/25 season is ‘fair’, it actually isn’t that much of a stretch to value Rushworth at £30m.

Same age and their last Championship season were comparable. By all accounts Burnley 24/25 were a much superior defensive unit than us. To be clear, even 24/25 Trafford is a better imo.

On the England question, probably won’t happen for a couple of years until after he earns his stripes. The FA rate him v highly though.

It's not as though England have a bunch of world class keepers. Pickford and co are decent but compared to the 3 that were in Spains WC squad not at that standard.

They aren't the same age. Trafford is 23, Rushworth 25. Not sure the FA rate him that highly as they took Brightons No 2 to the World Cup who has played a total of 35 league games in the last 8 seasons and is 35. I'd love you to be right but I think he's a long way off an England cap.

It said Brighten agreed to a buy back. I have no idea, but is it possible that it's something we could trigger if we go down and can't afford to keep him?

To be fair, you also said you were glad we didn’t pay £5m for him last August.
he says bizarre things on the match threads to be fair.
