I'd rather not say exactly, but it's a contracting business and the parts and machinery we use are manufactured in Sweden - literally nowhere else in the world - and the pound crashing against the Euro and increased delivery costs have cost us hundreds of thousands.

I think I read it will lead to a trade deficit of £3B.
Guess GDP will shrink along with that ,so on it's own that doesn't sound huge,not sure we're sending much the other way.
But our trade with the EU had doubled over the last fifteen to twenty years to Around £300B, still a deficit mind you can't remember from memory whether it had grown or shrunk as that happened, all while sterling was weakening for several years.

We had the same. A big part was that most commodities are traded in $USD so when converted back into £GBP currency fluctuations can really hurt. Currency always fluctuates so there’s always risk but in my working life I’ve never witnessed such a big hit in a 24 hour period and then no recovery from that hit in a five year period on top of that. We really felt it with any components we buy that contain metals. It’s shipping costs that’s really killing us at the moment but that’s more to do Covid than Brexit.

It's not like we don't! In amidst sex education, radicalisation, British values, racism, sexism, LGBT issues, critical thinking and so on, household budgeting is on most PSHE specs

Thats what trade barriers are for. We can’t compete because we have higher worker and product standards so we add tariffs to equalise it. In theory we should band together with other countries in a similar position so that we can both be stronger in negotiations with these large blocks undercutting us and liberalise trade amongst ourselves.

Not sure it was that for Massey's Evo.
Being both Canadian/British company.
Poland wasn't any where EU then.
Not even sure we were completely right tied into it at that point .

I think it’s more to do with scale of production than anything else. They can produce it in vast quantities because of the amount of land available. Brazil is even bigger, 2nd only to the US and that’s the other big target for a free trade deal.

That’s probably more to do with shipping costs than anything else. The cost to ship a standard 20 or 40ft container around the world has almost doubled over the last 6 months. I would think that stacks up too for specialists refrigerated containers coming from the other side of the world.

Yeah tariffs have only been sold as a barrier to trade while protectionism is bad. If we do sign a free trade deal it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the FTA the EU and Australia have been negotiating. I would be seriously surprised if they sell the farmers down the road like our government seems willing to do. Time will tell.
