I am uncomfortable with this let's give the nhs staff this and that game of one upmanship companies are doing.

It completely ignores other key workers who are putting their lives at risk including care home workers, food retail and transportation staff.

I don’t think the daily deaths should be that high, I’d hope that today was more of an anomaly due weekend catch up and a significant number of historical/backdated additions. Could be wrong though, just basing theory on the decreasing day rate on that NHS England spreadsheet

For some things its understandable. Things like artists putting on thank you concerts, they are requiring NHS ID to be shown alongside the tickets to gain entry. Would be virtually impossible to extend that as what do you accept as valid ID?

Other things look like PR opportunities. Lots of companies with perishable stock lying around they can't use. How much advertising spend would Domino's need to make to achieve the equivalent impact of the free pizzas for NHS workers?

Now imagine the chaos if you extend that to an essentially unlimited assortment of ID cards with the steward being the one who has to decide if that ID gives someone key worker status or not.

It's easy enough for example the Tom Clarke gig at the empire is 900 tickets tops. The bouncer can easily look and see oh nhs id, oh asda id etc. It's not unlimited.

It's cuntish to allow someone like an admin worker fro. A primary care trust to be rewarded but not someone like a care home worker who's actually at the coalface.

I was speaking to someone I know who works on the care home sector and they are often trying to treat dying people armed only with homemade ppe and paracetamol.

Exactly, hundreds of different people all of whom will have different ideas of who is classed as a key worker and who isn't.

Having experienced the chaos when all you're asking them to do is check the name on the ticket matches any photo ID for a regular I can't see it being workable.

If they sell pizza at a tenner a go they can say we're giving millions worth of pizza based on that price but if they only cost they a quid each to make its not actually costing them millions.

Might just be a cynic but my first thought was they have loads of stock they need to shift before it goes out of date.

I agree it's a good marketing opportunity to not waste ingredients that would otherwise go in the bin (although they could donate them to homeless charities as well although I imagine it's pretty strict at the mo whether it could be accepted as to proving it'd been stored safely and uncontimated etc).

But if it's based on the cost of the ingredients rather than pizza price it would be a lot more pizzas. Which is fair enough if it is - usually things like this giveing away £x of stuff is retail price and they actual bought for a fraction of that.
