The way the squad has been built is about 50/50 experience and young players with potential. If you remember in an interview last season about how CCFC are doing he compared the squad value in the transfer market when he bought the club and at the time of the interview. A lot of his focus was on having the squad value that made his investment worth it, it worked well at the lower level and that strategy remains in place. It's a similar to the way a few other premier league clubs operate but they've had a few years to get better at playing the market while retaining their place in the top league.

Player assets tbought in previous seasons to sell at profit but are below premier league standard: Bassette, Rapheal, Andrews, Dovin, Eccles, Torp

I know exactly what Doug was thinking with this deal, he is the player you double your money on quite easily. My comment was in response to Grendel saying he could be a walking red and might give the ball to opposition defender. Why spend a club record fee on a player if he not going to start every game for us. If you want that value going up he has to play, no good to us or Doug if he sat on the bench. He will get better the more he plays.

The way I see it with Grimes is that he needs the field of vision in front of him for him to be comfortable - he is good when he is afforded this opportunity as he was in the Championship.

In this league his usual position will 9/10 times be occupied by the opposition press. He needs to be press resistant, which he just isn't - our players know this so the game will pass him by. Centre backs will prefer to go long in more situations than not if they see Grimes is being marked. To a degree it's similar to Liam Kelly when the league position evolved beyond him - you stop using him in certain situations. He needs to adapt or make way so we can go with a different plan and press higher with more aggression.

Our only true press resistant player is JD - maybe Rudoni? We need the aggressive ball winner types in there right now...maybe bring him back in if confidence returns and we can afford someone who wants to orchestrate.

I think Torp is PL standard, but that's only an opinion of course. However he is only a year older than Gboho. Dovin is younger than Rushworth. Andrews is from the academy.

Because we are looking over the next couple of seasons to improve him and sell him at a profit

And how we going to have him over a few season when we finish rock bottom and sell everyone to balance books. We needed an experience spine. Then you can add youth around that.

But then he has had no minutes....but then why sign a player that will take 4 months to get up to speed in a critical time. He won't really have any sell on value so Doug's business plan is fucking nuts

Honestly starting to think he's not all that great a captain either. Giving shades of Ben Sheaf; seems to be really soft and submissive, and the lack of combative leadership is starting to show.

I had this feeling, he looks like he's just happy to there.

Very much a system player and the system isn't going to work with our quality of player at this level.

Think he was a waste of money for now as we needed players with experience in this league that we can hopefully stay in for at least a season. Obviously we have seen nothing of him yet but the little bit seems very inexperienced to play the loan roll up top.

I think Yirenkyi will become fairly press resistant. Think he can take in tight space /shield and turn etc. he just needs to tighten up passing
