I've heard that no coventry sunday leagues this season....we had best sunday teams I'm Midlands for years so such a shame it's got to this stage

That's awful, played Sunday league for a couple of years, my dads pub team were decent . And remember watching my 2 older brothers play for Shepherd Wednesday [ Based at the shepherd in Keresley} decent team they had a heady mix of experience youth and a few headcases . And Dynamo Dakashwari few decent players for them in Adge that posts on here was the goalie

There were 2 divisions with about six teams in each so inevitable really....played for a team called the colliers many years ago...2 premier leagues...5 senior leagues..intermediate leagues.....don't even see jumpers for goalposts games over park anymore

Jolly Colliers? My old man used to play for them. Used to trot along to watch when I didn’t have a game myself.

A memory just popped into my head I was playing for my Dads Sunday league team 93/94 time we were playing against The Black Prince up in Tile Hill , it was a ' lively game ' to say the least with some very iffy decisions . I had a goal disallowed for offside I was in the box with a centre half in front of me, their goalie behind him and they had another guy on the line .
The ref weren't giving it as he had been getting dogs abuse all game and just wanted to get it over with

I think any cov teams have to play in the Nuneaton leagues now.

I played in the Nuneaton Sunday League for a long while. culminating around 2012-ish

Back then there were two Premier Divisions, and 5 further divisions. Premier One was a really decent standard.

Just looking now and there's a Premier Division and five further divisions still, which is pretty decent, i remember looking a few years ago and it didn't look that healthy (but as said, probably the influx of Cov teams)

I also played Saturday football in the Cov Alliance.... mainly at reserve team level in the lower divisions, but occasionally for the first team in the top division, which was a really good standard...... even the lower divisions were a fair standard..... last time i watched a match in that league (couple of years ago) and the standard seemed to have really dropped..... also appears to only be four divisions which i am sure has reduced over the years.

The lads aren't arsed nowadays. Even 10 years ago the younger ones stopped going back to the pub after games etc.

The ones that are left seem weird, announcing players on social media etc like they are in the Premier League.

Completely miss the point in what Sunday League was about.

It wasn't even that bad.

I can only think of maybe 2 injuries over the years I saw from people being cunts. Of course there were accidental injuries and general sports injuries.

Ahh really, I didn't know if they were paid.
Not sure how much would be enough though for some of the comments I've seen them get before!

It's got way worse out there with dickheads who are just there for a scrap to the point that it isn't an enjoyable game anymore.

Add to that the players think the World Cup is on the line and will spark out a ref if they don't agree with a decision and I can see why people are losing interest.

I wonder if things like Power League also take interest away from 11 a side.
Personally I find an evening playing 5-a-side a lot more appealing than awful park pitches on a Sunday morning in January.

I remember doing that around that age and first game some of the 'tackles' going in were basically an excuse to assault someone. Then when one guy reacted to yet another knee high two footed lunge the opposition player nutted him. I just immediately thought 'fuck this' and never went back.

£40 at Sunday league level. Got a mate who’s progressing a bit into non-league refereeing as well who makes about £200 a weekend. Got £20 to be the 4th official at a game at the Pingles - money for nothing basically!

I remember scoring an early two goals against the British Queen (Bedworth...... a well known team of headcases)

They just subbed this guy on who smashed me, took the booking, and i was subbed off injured and missed about 6 weeks.

The thing i didn't like, even amongst my own teams..... they'll sit in the pub now banging on about how we had "great team spirit"...... but all we did was blame each other/the manager/the referee/cheating opposition linesman/and so forth.... "great team spirit" basically meant we were up for a ruck if/when it kicked off.

Never took any responsibility for the fact we turned up pissed half the time, didn't train properly.... i was just as bad, would regualrly turn up straight from DnB raves in London/Milton Keynes, on no sleep.

Probably why i subsequently got into individual sports.

I also really enjoyed 5-a-side and played for a number of years in the midweek league at Nicholas Chamberlaine..... loved the tactics.
