On TalkSport, they were talking about CR7. Seems as though he's replied to all the hate he's been getting during this WC. Basically said that before him, Portugal had won nothing and since him they have 3 major tournament wins. He said his best win was a 2016 Euros win, which he likened to being "just as good" as winning the world cup.

Youd rather win the FA Cup over the Carabou Cup. Champions League over Europa League. And I've always thought that the WC is the holy grail and the Euros isn't as an impressive trophy/tournament. But is it? Granted, there's more teams in the pot for the WC, but when you see that 6/8 teams progressing to the 1/4 finals of the WC are UEFA countries, it shows that Europe does clearly dominate world football. So does that make winning a UEFA tournament harder in that sense? Is it just as good/on par with a WC win?

If we won it we wouldnt care if it wasnt a world cup. But to nations that win both the world cup is miles bigger

Thats what im saying. The WC is miles bigger, I get it and fully agree. But when the WC is dominated by EUFA countries, why is it? The WC has only ever been won by EUFA or South American countries. With Europe currently winning 12 - 9 I think. (Youd think its odds on to become 13 - 9 by the end of next week). So if UEFA dominate the WC so much, why is the Euros not just as big, if not a bigger achievement?

Because the Euros doesnt have include every team in the World?

But when all the other teams in the world are basically just making up the numbers, does that not dilute it slightly?

I fully agree btw. For context, I still think the WC is a greater achievement. But for debate sake, and when you look at it statistically, it probably shouldnt be. I dunno, Just in an dissenting mood today and trying to look from a different angle.

How are they making up the numbers? Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay all previous winners?

So 3 countries outside of Europe, out of a possible how many?
USA
Canada,
The entirety of Africa, Asia, Australasia. That to me is literally the definition of making up the numbers

206 countries (+3 host nations) started the WC qualification process for this tournament. But outside of Europe, only 3 teams have won it. And theyre all south American. So the rest of the world, is literally making uo the numbers.

I dont really get the point when teams from those continents have knocked out some of these European teams even in this tournament. You talk about them like they are pub teams

Because the World Cup includes all the UEFA teams plus Brazil and Argentina. And others like Uruguay are on a level with the second tier UEFA sides.

Theres always the plucky underdog that'll knock a "big" team out in a cup competition. Sutton v us. Wrexham v Arsenal. Macclesfield last season v Palace. That doesnt mean theyre serious contenders to win the tournament and arent making up the numbers.

Maybe that's about to change?
Maybe the corruption favoured the honourable Europeans, I include England as the most honourable of all in this.

So in light of really just how fucking corrupt FIFA clearly is. To a point of not even really hiding it. Should UEFA withdraw from FIFA? Going back to which is the better trophy? The WC or the Euros? Clearly as we all know and agree, the WC is the holy grail. But is it worth all the corruption and bullshit that comes with it? Does UEFA (who pretty much dominate world football anyway as we all know and can clearly see) say fuck this, let's do our own stuff and do it better?

The latest news of Paseda having his red card recinded with no further action against him is just unbelievable. Enough should be enough now for people to just boycott it.

You look at our paths in recent tournaments

26 WC: DR Congo - Mexico - Norway - Argentina - (Spain)

24 EU: Slovakia - Switzerland - Netherlands - Spain

22 WC: Senegal - France - (Morocco) - (Argentina)

20 EU: Germany - Ukraine - Denmark - Italy

18 WC: Colombia - Sweden - Croatia - (France)

World Cup ones are tougher, but I don't think there's too much in it. Definitely possible for a Euros to be as hard to win as a WC. But World Cup obviously retains the prestige.

But with the shit going on that weve seen from FIFA in this tournament, where is that "prestige" heading?

FIFA has always been a corrupt organisation, but now they just don't even try to hide it. Am pretty sure that UEFA is the cash cow for the the whole organisation (FIFA) as none of the other footballing bodies contribute anywhere near as much so it is about time UEFA broke away and set up an alternative competition that included all European teams and selected teams from around the world. Any team invited would have to demonstrate that they are free of corruption, so that would rule out any teams from Africa and South America (no loss for me). All they need to do is come up with an alternative name.

I imagine the average world ranking of teams might be slightly lower in the euros ( actually it was before the new format ,maybe not now ), but teams would rather win the world cup

Caution is required,we may be unhappy with Infantino but it's status is assured as long as people continue to go,we wouldn't want a Trump style getting his hands on the competition, which possibly may happen if we opted for the AEuro one.
We shouldn't worry in any way about the completions status one will either collapse or thrive which I think the European competition is far more practical from the logistical point!🤔
