Rushworth or Wilson (4 Viewers)

Attacking set pieces aren’t much better this season tbh, other than Torp hitting a pearler of course. Corners are painful.

I honestly think we just don’t have anyone in the building who can set out a defence.

I find that hard to believe given the scale of the clearout that did happen. If Williams is as toxic as you say he is, why wouldn’t he be first out of the door? Plenty of other more senior coaches were disposed of very quickly.
I never said he was toxic at all , im suggesting hes not a great goalkeeper coach

I think the point about questioning Rushworth’s performance so far is valid. We can’t start using preseason friendlies for point scoring though surely
If a striker scored a hat-full in pre-season, he'd be getting game time and plaudits because of it. So why can an error not be the reverse? Pre season or not, a fuck up, is a fuck up. It meant nothing, but is an indicator of the type of player he is.

People were desperate to get rid of Oggy as a coach as the keepers weren't improving enough. At least they weren't going backwards like we see now.

Far too early to write Rushworth off but at this point I'm glad our offer to buy him didn't get accepted. What is concerned is that we have had multiple keepers come in who have regressed under our coaching setup, in some cases to a significant level.
I’m not claiming to be any kind of ITK but I was told by a credible party that Oggy’s stature within the club upset some of the SISU lanyard wearers and they were desperate to get rid of him to stamp their mark. The stalling block was the redundancy pay - transferred under TUPE so for a 60 year old with like 35 years service was a big chunk of change.

Maybe it became a Mexican stand off.

If my source is wrong - I apologise if someone knows better. Just what I was told.

Yes, but if he was shite in the league matches noone would remember preseason. And vice versa. It’s literally a friendly. Shall we add simms goals against Forest Green when discussing his goal return for us?

Thomas and Kitching have been at fault for just as many. Let’s start Jake Bidwell and Callum Perry against Norwich I reckon.
We’re trying to spend 11m to replace that issue though.

Rushworth was the replacement.

id agree with that. But it shows that the bollock up wasn’t a one off… it’s just became an every game thing

whatever we’ve financially spunked on this - because I bet the loan fee is significant, it’s too much

His track record with us:

19/20 - Marosi (TOTY)
20/21 - Marosi/Wilson (meh)
21/22 - Moore (good)
22/23 - Wilson (TOTY, Golden Glove)
23/24 - Wilson (meh)/Collins (fine)
24/25 - Dovin (good)/Collins (awful)

There are some genuine stinkers and some genuine successes in there. All in all I struggle to see the evidence that he’s taking top quality keepers and turning them rotten, he’s been working almost exclusively with journeymen and you get what you pay for.

You've missed out Moore being awful and losing all his confidence there somehow and burge 18/19 was awful too

Moore played three league games in the season you’re referring to and was supposedly going through personal issues, but maybe they were Williams’ fault, idk.

Williams didn’t join us until May 2019 fyi

Trying to think of decent keepers we had under Oggy influence:??:?

Kirkland?
Westwood?
Joe Murphy?

Marosi (pre having his head kicked in)?

Genuinely don’t know how that stacks up because I also remember Fabian Debec. Scott Shearer. (Shudders).

Pile in. Who was / is the better GK coach?

We can do better , probably for the best before he ruins rushworth like he did collins and Moore

Who is in charge of the wall out of interest? Who positions/moves it?

The keeper.

Unfortunately no one spotted the taker moving the ball a foot to the right to open up the angle (apart from Oggy!)

Did he ruin Collins? Or was he just a L1/Champ backup playing at a L1/Champ backup level?

As I said, if Williams was really capable of “ruining” players single handedly then he wouldn’t be here.

All the evidence points towards him being underwhelming as a coach .. time for change

Also worth mentioning wilson wasnt particularly great when called upon last season
I agree.

He’s a howler in him.

But I just think he is a bit more on his toes / vocal / spots a breakaway opportunity and bowls it out quick / does a bit of shithousery.

HAS A GOLDEN GLOVE TO HIS NAME.

Little things like that, you know….

Yea he wasnt top of any of the goalkeeping stats that season his defence was superb infront of him .. he was and still is bang average

He should have saved the first on Tuesday night.

but the current goalkeeper can’t set a wall and has a cock up rate similar to Collins.

we need a better goalkeeper than Wilson but this current one is wasting a spot and whatever funds that could be put towards a better centre half

rushworth Also couldn’t get into the hull side that nearly got relegated last year

He had the advantage of being up in the stand, of course. Even so, someone in the wall should have actually been paying attention.

How has a keeper loved at Swansea and rated by Brighton so highly turned shit ? Its all very weird

To be fair, his breakaway opportunity to the opposition inside his six-yard box in pre-season was a thing of beauty.

He hasn’t turned shit. He’s only just got his foot in the door and people get overly emotional and weird when we don’t win. People are losing their minds over centre halves giving away a free kick for crying out loud.
If Collins had started this season with this many howlers the fans would rightfully be going mental

It’s not going to get easier either. We’ve got Norwich, Leicester and Birmingham coming up - all of which are going to put Rushworth under more pressure than the last 4 teams.

He desperately needs to get some confidence quickly becuase it becomes a lot more difficult when we don’t score 5 or 7 goals

He's not been great but Rushworth is far superior to Wilson.
Not yet I'm afraid. He looks bereft of confidence.
His positioning has been woeful.
"Could" attribute every goal conceded to Carl.
Except the Derby penalty. Didn't like his part in their 1st & 3rd...QPR & again particularly 2nd today.

I think Lampard knows a thing or two more, sorry.

Wilson was shit on Tuesday.

So no contest for me-has to be Rushworth but….

One conciliation is that we didn’t buy Rushworth…..
