It depends who is available that would fit into our system.

Well its clear that another striker could accelerate our push for the top 2, now Godden is starting to score another goalscorer could really push us

I think games like last night a Leon Clarke turns the draw into 3 points experienced handful against that defence

Its another option, would you not strengthen at all then? Say if Godden gets injured or we need a plan B?

I don't think selling McCallum and bring Mason in is going to be a massive season changer, bringing in another striker with the cash could well be.
Having said that, with 2 days to go, it's unlikely to happen.

Mason can defiantly come straight in, he's class at this level! Would probably be a loan if we could

Which is why I said with our system.

I don't doubt a striker could make a difference but it wouldn't have made up for the fact that Shipley and Westbrooke were pretty much anonymous in terms of linking up the play.

Biamou made a bit of difference but could you see Leon Clarke playing left midfield like Biamou did mostly?

Agreed someone like that has to go central
Which I think he would,O’Hare & Allen have to come in for Westbrooke & Shipley Saturday 100% Jodi Jones in the match day squad also

Where would Jodi start though mate? Can't see him fitting in as we don't play with wingers atm

We can and have changed from 2AM,1FW to 1AM, 2FW but MR prefers to stick with the 1 up front, 2 behind if he can.

The sale as always depends on how much he goes for, how much can we put towards improving the squad and who's available. Also have to factor in how McCallum would feel about being denied the move.

One plus point would be that we do have another left back ready to step in immediately so it's not like we've got to think about spending money on a replacement LB. It could also help Newton progress like McCallum did last season and he could become the 2nd choice.

I reckon if we got 1.5-2m plus bonuses for appearances, caps etc and a sell-on clause of 20% I'd very much consider letting him move on. He's come on leaps and bounds with full time training and maybe having more intensive coaching at a bigger club would help him push on even more. Having come through V9 I think he appreciates the opportunity more than those who've risen through a club academy. Of course depending on the club he joined he may well end up in an U23 set-up or out on loan which IMO is more likely to be detrimental to a player's career than a smaller step playing first team.

I I said before there seems to be a plan to offload McCallum. The cynic in me wonders If it’s why Robins blurted it out. To get some bidding war

Each season the Master Fund is having to provide short term unsecured loans to prop the club up. I can’t believe this season will be different other than it’s likely to be a lot worse. The money will offset the need for greater loans in all probability

How many new strikers we buy b4 realise tactically we wont get exoected output from them?

Mcgoldrick and mcnulty cud make own chances out of nothing. Any1 out there in market that fits bill and is available?

I have no one in mind.
But MR seems to be playing Max a bit more now, even if it doesn't look exactly like two up top. Some one with a bit more about them, (no offence to Max), could make the difference.
It's also a worry what might happen if Gooden gets injured.

I really don't rate McCallum as much as many do to be honest. Mason for me is on a very similar level at the moment and if the price is right I would take the money at this point if it props the club up or helps us bring someone in to fill the gap of Hiwula/Jobello/Kasteneer who are either injured or just having a shit season.

Our biggest problem is the two behind the striker generally. Shipley can be great but drifts out a lot and I think Westrbooke is hogging a place that should be for Allen really.

That needs to be the focus area if we are going to turn draws into wins and get promoted in my opinion.

At which points?

The crosses in never beat the first man the majority of the time for starters.

The worry is we sell strikers and then they score goals. Biamou and Bakayoko are never going to but Hiwula will if he moves on as will Godden. Which begs a question

Godden seems to have come in for a lot of stick based on last night, but I agree with a few others who have said Shipley and Westbrook were the issue.

When those two are on top of their game, and linking play up around him, Godden looks far more dangerous. Unfortunately, both were off their game last night, in fact I'd go as far to say it was Westbrooks worst game for us. His pass completion rate must've been pitiful, and the ones he did complete were often behind the intended target meaning a break down in any momentum we had building

I think the tricky weather conditions and a bit of physical and mental tiredness played a part last night. They had some big f*****s at the back. Joey Barton is no mug of a manager either. Good result in my view.

Exactly. I think its waste of money to keep buying strikers

Tactics need to be tweaked to create more chances for them. Once that happens godden will score just like chaplin would have or jch

I think max and baka can contrubite too if we make these changes.

Robins does cite negstivoty or lack of bravery on ball from midfeilders to make that defence splitting pass so hopefully its being worked on as we speak

The problem is Biamou and Bakaoyoko are no good at getting in front of defences anyway. They have zero instinct as strikers. They perform most of their activity outside the penalty area and rarely score goals from inside the 6 yard area. In the end players supplying them know that and so its not just formation. They will never score goals wherever they go. Godden , Clarke Harris, Chaplin and Hiwula have and will as they are far more natural strikers. Godden though is not I suspect someone used to this formation so now he is struggling

Godden needs the front midfield two to play much further up and closer than Shipley and Westbrooke do when they’re on an off day, we also need the wing backs further up the pitch to stretch play a bit. Without that we become a very solid 541 with an isolated striker rather than a fluid 3421.

I don’t think you can completely ignore the role the opposition has in stopping us playing either TBF. Fleetwood are a decent side.

I think you're right but I also think it's by design. Robins just wants us to be more compact and harder to break down in some games and hope we nick a goal from somewhere. It obviously works because of how few losses we have but would we be better off if he'd allow us to be more expansive and we had a few more wins along with a few more losses?

It’s a fair question. The players often repeat “the gaffer says if you can’t win Make sure you don’t lose” so there’s obviously an element of than mentality. Someone said yesterday you could see we’d set up with the WBs further back and Robins was playing for a draw.
